When the Dynamo take on FAS of El Salvador tonight it is clearly a rarity on the Houston sports scene but also a reminder that we are a part of a global game.
You don’t see the Rockets, Texans, or Astros play international competition.
FAS of El Salvador is the opponent and we do live in a city that has a large population of people that have ties to El Salvador. The Dynamo beat FAS in El Salvador and need to do the same tonight at BBVA Compass Stadium to set up a showdown in their group play in Concacaf Champions League against Honduran side Olimpia in October.
Win the Concacaf Champions League and you could be playing the Champions League winner from Europe. Could you imagine the Dynamo playing against Barcelona or Real Madrid in the World Club Championship.
Tonight brings a rarity, the opportunity to see a local professional team in meaningful international competition . It is unique.
LINEUP CHANGE
Expect a mixed lineup tonight under Dominic Kinnear for the Dynamo with an eye on the Union this Sunday a game you can catch on Fox Sports Houston plus.
Calling the game with Eddie Robinson former Dynamo defender.
Remember, Dominic Kinnear reverted back to a 4-4-2 at FAS in El Salvador to take advantage of the aerial game which is what happened in their win.
DC/PHILLY
I am in Philadelphia tonight to call the DC at Philly game on Espn 2 at 7 cst with Taylor Twellman, Alexi Lalas.
The Dynamo will play at Philly on Sunday and also will have an eye on tonight hoping the Union deny DC points.
If DC wins tonight the Dynamo will drop to fifth place in the Eastern Conference to remind us of what an important week this is.
Former Dynamo Danny Cruz is now on the Philadelphia Union after being traded by DC United.
