What does U.S./Canada game in Houston mean to you?

The reaction to this game has been varied as to it’s importance in the big picture between Canada and the U.S. Now many are voicing valid opinions, excuses and thoughts. I don’t stand in judgement of anyone going or not going , I am just trying to gauge the drawing power of U.S. Soccer as a stand alone.

I have a friend on an sponsorship. http://radicaltv.com Why, are you looking to get paid more than whoever is paying you then?

Here is a piece from Steve Davis my writer and friend http://prosoccertalk.nbcsports.com/2013/01/20/what-is-a-good-attendance-for-u-s-canada-in-ja

My reasons to go:

*Nationalistic pride-it is US Soccer!
*Opportunity to impress on Espn national tv and get more meaningful games in the future.
*Dynamo players Brad Davis, Tally Hall, Will Bruin in U.S. national team jersey at home.
*Player development-get youth players to live soccer on a “cool” night
*Return of former Dwayne DeRosario playing for Canada

If your reason for not going is monetary (you need the money for something more important), then you have a real reason.

If your reason is that you have a more important event schedule (family comes first always in my book, work gets on the way, you will be out of toen), then you have a real reason.

Not a meaningful game, just a friendly, not the A squad, those are not real reasons.

In countries were the National Team plays their official games in pretty much only one city, the other cities fight for the chance of getting at least a friendly game and they pack the stadiums to get a glance of that jersey in live action.

People go to see the jersey, not the players, the team is the important one, it is everyone’s team, the one time rival fans unite.

You can saturate a market, a friend tells me that since every single official game is played in Azteca Stadium, and since this previous stage of WC qualis was relatively easy for the MNT, they had a couple of games with low attendance, they moved the last game to another stadium and had a full attendance game.

This is not the case with Houston, since moving here 6 years ago, the US has played here twice, once in a friendly game against Mexico, the other one was on the Gold Cup against Panama.

I will attend because this is only the 3rd game in 6 years and the first one in which the US fans will be the majority.

    Lots of great points above.
