Game one is critical in MLS playoffs and generally they are games that are more cautious and lack risk so that team are in it in game 2.
As much as the Dynamo may want to be the aggressors on Thursday night at Qwest Field in Seattle they are going to have to be selective I think with the current squad on how much and how high they press. Get pulled apart at Qwest Field and Seattle has all kinds of individuals that can hurt you like Freddy Ljunberg, Steve Zakhauni, Brad Evans , Fredy Montero and Nate Jacqua…….The Dynamo were pulled apart at times at Chivas USA which put huge pressure on their back four. The overall midfield effort is going to need to improve on Thursday night in front of a crowd that could top 40,000 based on the Sounders opening up more seating. If it the midfield game is not on par it could be a dangerous opening game with the crowd urging the Sounders forward.
One pre-requisite for Thursday night is to go in to this game with a controlled, cavalier type attitude…………….Soccer fans, your thoughts?

You are absolutely correct Glenn. The problem is that without Richard Mulrooney out there keeping everyone cool, Dynamo have had a hard time maintaining composure for a full 90. Also, asking an attacking team like Dynamo to play back and patient and wait for their chances is difficult.
However, champions adjust and I was heartened to see Brad Davis talking right away about defense winning championships. I think this is where experience means something. Pretty much the entire Dynamo squad have been in these situations many times before, most in Orange, while there are many players in Seattle who have not. There is no substitute for playoff experience, so if the team opens up loose, calm and confident and STAYS that way throughout the game, they will be able to exert pressure and strike when Seattle makes their mistakes.
A cool, calm, composed game and coming home ahead, drawn or no worse than a one-goal deficit and I will consider Thursday night a success.
Glenn- Dynamo Obviously need to try and keep tight on Ljunberg , he’s the engine that everthing goes thru for Sounders FC.
Don’t like to say it, but everthing setting up well for Galaxy. Entering playoff’s in good form, plus have both games of Confer. semi’s at home, no travel.
Only American hardware I want to see Beckham get is ” most overpaid” 3 years running.
If somehow Chivas can oust LA, think it’s wide open for MLS Cup.Even Supporters Shield winners, Crew looking shaky.
Last 6 games: 2 wins, 3 losses, and 1 tie, with total of 3 goals scored
What was your take of Rapids nose dive? Losing Colin Clarke was big hit, but to go last 7 games without a win pathetic. Can’t help but think the release of winger Terry Cooke late in season was gamble that coach Smith took that cost them. Addition by subtraction didn’t work in this case.
No, forget Ljunberg, teams that shut down Zakuani have been the teams that have beaten Seattle this year. Zakuani runs at defenders all day and by the end of the match, they are just too exhausted to keep marks. Teams that have closed down Zakuani with the right side mid (your job Mullan) have been the team to stop Seattle.
Ljunberg is important to stop, but according to the teams that have beaten Seattle have shut down Zakuani!
Listen to Coach H, I stayed in a Holiday Inn Express last weekend!
The Sounders are a tough team for the Orange to play. For some reason, they have there number. Obviously Ljunberg is a very dangerous player but he does not scare me as much as Montero and Jacqua. I think they will keep Ljunberg in check but the others may be a problem for the back four. Normally the middle and the back lines are the strength of the Orange but not lately. Not enough continuity which results in silly mistakes have hurt the Orange. I think DK has to substitue sooner then he has been. Too many games in a short time period have really taken there toll on the players. I hope Rico and Ashe are ready to go and Chinn plays with a purpose. Now is the time for Holden to play like we know he can. If the Orange can tie or leave town down a goal, I think they will be in good shape for Robertson. What an environment for soccer Quest Field has been this year. Imagine 40,000 screaming die-hard fans urging on their beloved Sounders. Whew, the Dynamo have there hands full. But they can do it by playing there attacking style of soccer hopefully error free. Go Dynamo!
The guys just need to finish.
I think we can get a goog result overthere. Then wait for them to come to Robertson on a play-off atmosphere. We’ll see then.
We have to play it cool. Start geoff with bobby. That’s the safest way. If rico is not available then put someone else in midfield with holden, but in a defensive game we need geoff in the back. Mullan and davis will have to be limited in their excursions upfield and obviously here is the type of game where Oduro has to excel with his velocity on counter attacks. Who knows who is healthy and who’s not? those are my dobts but even if landid and weaver are available i will start with ching helping midfield holding the ball and Oduro up on top. Then second half put in ashe and give them a run for their money trying to catch him up
Ouch…um…I think Dom exploded on us…almost Maradona worthy…without cursing but ouch
I’m going to say what’s on my mind, he was out of line. As a paying fan I think that we are allowed to either be pessimistic or optimistic. No matter what we say we are going to be there supporting Our Men in Orange, but Dom has now become the Scottish Maradona.
Why is Dom not allowed to call out your negative attitude? Because he is not your paying fan? What are your standards to qualify to critic? and why all of a sudden is it “Scottish” Maradona. I’ve never seen you call Dom Scottish before. Like when we won the championships you called Dom just a great coach right and not a great Scottish coach. It’s so typical of fair weather fans to dump negativity as soon as they think things are not going right. Well thing do go right. We have a great hardworking team in this nice city of Houston that placed in the top three of the Western conference again. I hope Dom realizes that the negativity dumped here is an exception and that most of us fans are able to look past a few hurdles along the way.
Calm down Ria, I only called him the Scottish Maradona for laughter purposes. He’s of Scottish descent, that’s like me getting called a Mexican, even though I was born and raised here. I would not take offense, and that comment was mostly for laughs not to be taken too seriously other than the we should be allowed freedom of speech.
Okay Leo, I’m calm already.GO DYNAMO!!
