Three NCAA COLLEGE CUP NOTES on where to congregate, storylines and Division I Men’s soccer in Texas:
1.) WAKE FOREST, DENVER, UNC, STANFORD will meet in the semis Friday night with the first match at 5pm.
Head over to the KINGS COURT right near the stadium (903 Hutchins) for pre and post games festivities.
It’s also the spot to catch the MLS Cup final on Saturday.
KINGS COURT will open early Sunday for the national championship and premier league games.
The most soccer friendly spot in EADO.
2.) STORYLINES ABOUND AT THIS COLLEGE CUP
Bobby Muuss the coach at Wake Forest will go up against his former assistant Jamie Franks.
This is interesting because Franks could have gone to Wake with Muuss but took the head coaching job at Denver and has only lost once in two seasons. Oh, Franks played in three College Cups for Wake Forest as a player.
UNC won the title in 2011 under Carlos Samoano (who is from the Houston area of Seabrook, TX) in his first year over UNC Charlotte who at that time were coached by Jeremy Gunn, now the coach at Stanford.
Gunn and the “Cardinal” are looking to be the first team to go back-to-back since Indiana did it in 2003 and 2004.
Gunn also won titles at the Division II level with Ft. Lewis.
While Stanford goes for the title again, last year’s final hero Jordan Morris will play in the MLS Cup Final on Saturday as a first year star for the Seattle Sounders after an amazing rookie campaign.
3.) DID YOU KNOW THAT HOUSTON exports soccer players to Colleges and Universities around the country.
The irony here is that although we are hosting the COLLEGE CUP at BBVA Compass Stadium, the state of Texas has only 3 division one men’s soccer programs for our states youth players to strive for.
