It’s not CRISTIANO RONALDO , nor is it LIONEL MESSI.
I am still in awe of the job pilot SULLY SULLENBERGER did landing a plane in the HUDSON river in New York . An absolute miracle and his expertise and professionalism and most likely his passion around his job made him the right man for that moment. Over 150 passengers are alive to live and see another day after his remarkable efforts.
INDIOS knocked off TECOS 2-1 on FRIDAY night to open up the MEXICAN CLAUSURA while SATURDAY brings us CHIVAS and CRUZ AZUL . Sunday CLUB AMERICA fans whom are pretty humbled these days takes on SANTOS in an interesting match-up………LETS not forget that the UNITED STATES /MEXICO match is right around the corner as well as the DYNAMO taking on ATLANTE……….Did you know that silently the WPS had their draft and BRANDI CHASTAIN was selected by the SAN JOSE franchise….She will be on DYNAMO ALL ACCESS with GLENN DAVIS on January 27 as will MARCELO CLAURE who is combining with BARCELONA to bid for an expansion team in 2010 in MIAMI.
So will the womens league be a success? Do you think MIAMI is a good choice for expansion? Seems it will be hard for the league to turn down this effort with BARCELONA involved, local ownership in MIAMI whom are willing to pay the $40 million dollar expansion fee plus they have already secured a solid deal at FIU to play in their new stadium.
With the MLS Superdraft over lets take stock of how many of these players will actually get signifcant playing time in MLS. The opinion on that is varied…….The FREDDY LJUNBERG signing in SEATTLE looks a bit ominous right now due to his surgery and the fact that they play on the “fake” stuff. DYNAMO have a new social networking system going where fans can connect …..More from U.S. under 20 coach THOMAS RONGEN on draft pick DANIEL CRUZ who played up front for UNLV. Rongen told me in a phone conversation that he is one of the greatest kids he has been around. He feels Cruz will be a legitimate MLS player when it is all said and done. He feels that Cruz will ultimately help the Dynamo a bit off the bench in year one and that wide midfield is where he will be most effective as a box to box midfielder. He calls CRUZ a steal for the Dynamo despite the fact that he feels he is a bit rough around the edges. A mentally strong kid.
Lets remember he is only 19 years old !
So what does your soccer weekend entail?

Will be watching Mexican league action, esp. the Pachuca and Chivas matches.
Heading to the East/West Shrine game at Robertson today, NFL football tomorrow.
“The FREDDY LJUNBERG signing in SEATTLE looks a bit ominous right now ”
really? As reports are coming out that he is healing ahead of schedule it looks more ominous?
Was there an increase in injuries at the U-20 world cup in Canada?
My Unam Pumas taking on Atlas tonite!! thats whats on my schedule…
Definitely watching Mexican League tonight! Several games to choose from but will probably watch them all! Wish my Spanish was up to the test but I will enjoy it all in spite of my language lack.
Barca on TV, and AC Milan on the internet, so I can have both on at the same time! last hour of Arizona v. Philly NFC game tommorrow, but I’m looking forward to Dempsey’s Fulham, Liverpool losing, If I can find it Boca’s game, and hoping Real lose as well as watching Javier Aguirre beat Hugo Sanchez, if Hugo keeps losing points and just tying every now and then he is going to take this team the Segunda, the Cruz Azul game tonight seems appealing!
Glenn, this may sound like a long shot and unrealistic, but what are the chances the Dynamo can make a move for Carlos Ruiz? there aren’t many teams who will get him, Toronto, Crew, NY, Chicago, DC, Seattle, Chivas, Dallas, and Real are out of the question for me? That only leaves Revs, KC, LA (if Donovan leaves although highly unlikely, Arena doesn’t like him) SJ, Colorado, and the Orange?
Where do you think he’ll end up?
Sure…get Ruiz in here so Rico can “daniel-son” his behind.
El Pesacadito reeks like old fish! He needs to go back to Guatemala.
Adios, Pescadito!
Started the weekend right proper watching the mighty Chelsea snatch victory from the jaws of defeat! Now if only Liverpool can trip up in the Merseyside derby, it would make for a fitting football weekend, ManU’s win aside.
Carlos, he has a bad horrible year with a long injury and busy with the National team, but he is among the top 10 in MLS scoring history, and he is the playoff leading scorer in history too! I know he had a rough rivalry with the Dynamo, but he can play, and there hasn’t been, mark my words, another forward with the kind of diminance he has had in the history of MLS, the closest is Juan Pablo Angel, he didn’t win the Cup or MVP and the year he was at his best he didn’t make it to the final, Schellotto is the closest thing to him…..
But like I said, where do you think he’ll go, he is still better than most forwards in MLS, with a few exceptions of Angel, Emilio, Cooper, and maybe Donovan and Buddle. Some of those he is at about the same level.
