The “art of goalkeeping” on display at All Star Game while Dynamo get set for a date with Pachuca it seems……

It was dueling “penalties” last night at the All Star Game at the beautiful Rio Tinto Stadium (same architect I believe as the Dynamo will be using for new stadium) between Everton goalkeeper Tim Howard and MLS All Star goalkeeper Kasey Keller. In the end Everton took the penalties after Howard provided a “penalty kick” saving exhibition.

Regulation ended 1-1 with Louis Saha scoring first off a bad pass from Stuart Holden and then Holden redeemed himself steering a ball towards the back post to Brad Davis who scored Dynamo to Dynamo. Davis and Geoff Cameron went the full 90 minutes while Holden went 64 ultimately being replaced by Javier Morales of RSL who wore number 77 in honor of Andy Williams whose wife is battling leukemia.
The All Stars outshot Everton by a wide margin and hit the post in the second half from Landon Donovan after a great set-up from Freddy Ljunberg.

WORST PENALTY I HAVE EVER SEEN TAKEN has to have come last night from James Vaughan of Everton who took the first pk. You have to see it to believe it!

What did you think of the MLS All Star event and television coverage?

DYNAMO nemesis PACHUCA last night defeated Jalapa in their first leg of Concacaf Champions play 3-0 so it looks like the Dynamo will take another trip to Pachuca come September 16th and entertain the Tuzos on September 30th at Robertson Stadium. Great international soccer coming our way. Not to mention the Dynamo at home against DC United this weekend who drew with Firpo in their opening leg of Concacaf Champions League play. The DC result is not a good one as they will have to head to El Salvador and pull off a result after disappointingly not taking care of their business at home. Toronto FC lost to the Puerto Rico Islanders 1-0……..

Now I don’t wish upon anyone losing their job but it is amazing that Juan Carlos Osorio remains in charge at the Red Bull in New York. Could it be the Red Bull are waiting to get in their new stadium and seeing the season out with Osorio to name a new signing next year. Who is the coach for the job in New York?

We enjoyed the MLS game after we were FINALLY able to get it via computer then hook that to TV. We are not with cable or such so we are “out in the cold” when it comes to soccer often. We were astounded that we could not see it on TV. Usually one of the Spanish language channels carry soccer but we have never gotten Galavision. So we are not happy with the lack of coverage on broadcast TV. This should have been shown over the air….it’s the All Star game!! And, No, we are not fluent in spanish…we just like to see soccer/futbol!! Thank goodness for Telemundo, Telefutura,Univision and 11.2!!!

We also enjoyed the sportsmanship and smiles that were often seen on the players’ faces! Refreshing and enjoyable to see!!!

stuholden22: “Two assists tonight, one for each team! Had to give them a chance right? Fun playing with a great group of players.”

Yeah Puerto Rico Islanders won 1-0 against Toronto it wasn’t a tie…Pachuca will come to Houston and beat Dynamo…maybe a 1-0, 2-0 result should do…For those of you wondering Pachuca will be using an alternative goalkeeper and maybe even line-up through out the group stages if they happen to make it, which all things point to yes…Happy to see that Pachuca and Dynamo will again face each other…I for one will not miss any ConcaChampions game that comes to town…I mean with the possibility of seeing Pachuca, Olimpia, and Metapan…for those of you that dont know…Metapan is a Salvadorean team that has in recent years been one of the if not most successful team in their league with 3 championships in 3 years…Olimpia is to many the best team from Honduras and is historical in the Concacaf region…and well Pachuca is the team that in 10 years has won 5 leagues, 3 Concacaf, 1 Sudamericana, and a Superliga….making them the most successful team of the last decade in Mexican soccer…

    ARRIBA LOS TUZOS DEL PACHUCA!!!!

The MLS All Stars v Everton was fun to watch. Good to see Holden redeem himself and the Dynamo to Dynamo connection on the MLS goal. Congrats to Brad Davis, Stu Holden, Geoff Cameron and the Dynamo coaching staff. And great sportsmanship from Everton coach for allowing Dom to put Keller back in the match. I would have liked to see LD\’s shot in the back of the net. GREAT to see Howard vs Keller in the PK battle. Howard is in form, great to see since the USMNT have a battle on their hands August 12th.

As for your question of the television coverage……….I thought some of it was good and a lot of it was LAME! Its great to see ESPN getting soccer onto the national TV stage. But what was up with all the Beckham discussion????? Kicking a dead horse ESPN, get over it already. In the 30 minute pre game show ESPN did a short piece in Howard v Keller then spent the remaining time on the Beckham v Galaxy fans issue. With all the Star power from the MLS side and Everton players from all over the planet and ESPN fails to even go through a simple line up with some background on each player? How about a run down of all the players, where they are from, clubs they play / played for, national team appearences. Bring out the positives (which I\’m not doing at the moment) of the WORLD game. NOPE, sinking to try to rewind controversy……………..What ever ESPN. Maybe that\’s why I\’m not a TV producer.

Looking forward to a stadium like Rio Tinto. It looks really cool.

Glen, with the rumor of Ngwenya coming home what will the Dynamo strike force consist of?Will we release Oduro or Adi? The Dom will have choice of Ching Kamara Weaver Oduro and Jar Jar.

Personally although I first thought Oduro’s speed would equal alot of one on ones,he just doesnt have the skill on the ball to help us.I hope we keep Adi and pair him with Kamara or Weaver and I hope Ching and Jar Jar are the first choice strikers.

    wondering what you think Glen?

  8. Summa says:

    Glen,

Enjoyed the All Star game. You are a big factor in how we have been awarded next years game a hugh thanks goes to you. I am concern about the timing as it would be around the same time as the World Cup. If it were up to me I would like to see Boca Juniors as the guest team opponent. CABJ would be a huge draw and would highlight a goal for the MLS in qualifying for/competing in the Libertadores some day in the future.

Coupled with CABJ you could also bring in Cruz Azul to rematch the 2001 final that same week.

  9. William says:

Glenn- Enjoyed MLS All Star game. Thought Ljungberg and Conor Casey put in solid effort and outstanding work rate.
Got a laugh from commish at half time reference to Beckham. I quote” Here’s a guy[Beckham]really working hard to help this league” By what? sending warm fuzzy thoughts from Milan??
As far as NYRB might as well sit tight as this nightmare season plays out. Feel not only Osorio must go but Agoos as well.Would like to see Paul Mariner get shot at head coah job.Knows MLS well, proven winner, time to make his own mark.

  10. john K says:

    Summa,

I am with you on Boca coming to play the All Stars next year in Houston. They are THE team in South America, and it would be very very interesting to see how MLS stack up against them.

I do think then the All Star game would have to be played in Robertson, because although Boca is huge and there is an Argentine community in Houston, they would not be the team to fill up Reliant.
