John Spencer was the front runner by all accounts for the Chicago Fire heading coach job but will remain on the Dynamo staff after not coming to terms financially.
So after all those interviews and negotiations the Fire came up with a poor financial package for Spencer?
So this means Denis Hamlett will get his first opportunity to be a head coach in the MLS after ten years as an assistant?
What has made him a head coach now after being passed up twice in the past by the Fire? Strange vote of confidence to say the least if it happens.
Spencer’s time will come and it wasn’t meant to be in Chicago which in the long run will be better for Spencer.
The situation is a unique one with the Fire and Spencer’s autocratic nature would have been tested with Cuauhtemoc Blanco over the course of a season. Would his management style been flexible enough? Maybe in the end this was not the best choice for Spencer as a first head coaching opportunity. Saying that I think he is excellent with young players who need a slight element of “fear” coming from the college ranks.
As for Hamlett only time will tell.

Guppy is not a great soccer mind IMO. Good move to stay in Houston.
