The HOUSTON DYNAMO have signed striker FELIX GARCIA from PDL team the LAREDO HEAT according to soccer by Ives although no word has come officially from the Houston Dynamo. The 18 year old is a GENERATION ADIDAS player and has spent time with the Under 20 national team and had been rumored to be a potential for the Dynamo.
The Dynamo have a press conference slated for Thursday where presumably this announcement will be made official.
This is another solid acquisition for the DYNAMO yet before he is annoited the next coming of MARADONA lets remember this young man is only 18 years of age and in MLS particularly with strikers we tend to get visions of grandeur. I have heard him described as “raw” which is a very general term. What 18 year old isn’t raw?
Still, this is an exciting signing of a young player with alot of potential and he clearly wanted to stay in Texas. If you are an FC Dallas fan you certainly could feel slighted and if you are a DYNAMO fan you are excited I would presume.
How do you feel about this signing ?
MEXICO resorts to VOODOO
The DAILY RECORD sports newspaper is encouraging it’s readers in Mexico to us voodoo to help Mexico finally beat the U.S. on U.S. soil.
Mexico has not won on the road against MEXICO in a decade and looks as though they may be without stars RAFA MARQUEZ of BARCELONA and ANDRES GUARDADO.
A Tuesday headline rad: “HELP END THE LOSING STREAK SO MEXICO ADVANCES”.
Readers then are asked to cut out a page and take it to an electronics store in exchange for a U.S. team voodoo doll.
SO what is your prediction? Does the law of averages catch up and Mexico finally gets a result? Or does U.S. result domination continue?

Great show! The Felix Garcia signing is exciting. It is great that the club has an eye on building for the future. I still hate losing DeRo but it is good to know that the team is being smart about building for the future. If I count right 3 or their signings this winter are Gen Adidas ( James, Cruz and Garcia) Add Kamara and that make 4 guys on the team that do not count against the cap. That strikes me as very smart business. If even half of these guys work out we could be looking at the future of the Dynamo.
I have a question regarding transfer fees to USL Clubs. In the past I do not remember MLS clubs giving transfer fees to USL Teams, in fact I thought I had heard that they did not want to set a precedent by doing so. However,in the last several weeks it seems that the MLS is now be willing open their wallets to secure some of these guys. Is this a new development, or was I just misinformed?
I think this is a great signing for the Dynamo, looking forward to seeing them in LA against my Galaxy, I might even go watch them play Chivas USA! I think the Dynamo still need to look for one more winger, preferibly a lefty as they are hard to come by, and maybe another Forward, a tall one to replace Ching when he out injured, or tired, or with the USMNT, houston thrives on airial attack, on hopefully with most of the team back, and Holden taking over they will remain a dominant offensive powerhouse. Great show glenn, I am impressed with the interview with Marcelo Claure, I think this will work, with Barca having so many young prospects in the “Cantera” with the hunger to show good form in order to earn a call up to the first team in the occassional less important Cup game, or to be sent on loan in order to progress, they can easily bring in great talented young guns that would increase the MLS talent level, also it might keep some of the best US young guns here, and Bolivar could easily start supplying the whole MLS players!
Glenn, you think the Dynamo are done signing players? I think one more winger is crucial!
That’s great news about Garcia. I love that homegrown Texas talent, especially when it wants to stay home! He is really stepping up in class though, but he is in exactly the right place, with exactly the right people to make the jump. When I talk to some of the players that I have coached and they tell me about the difference in quality, fitness and speed of play, from club soccer to the college game, it really brings home the fact that at every new level there is a real adjustment that must be made. Garcia will find this out and with help may become a outstanding producer. The fact that he is playing where he wants to play can not be underestimated in my opinion. This speaks well of the club when young talent chooses to come to the Dynamo. When you become a destination, you have arrived. This is how dynasties are fueled.
As for Barca, be careful what you wish for. The players are owned by the league not the clubs. This idea of all of Barca’s young talent coming over to the MLS and being owned by MLS is a joke. Some of these young players may make more than some established pro’s in the league. How will the salary cap work? How will you be able to control Barca’s spending? I think this thing is fraught with problems from a stand point of openness and fairness to the other clubs in the league. Barca should have to play by the same rules as everyone else. We already have one club in LA that gets special treatment and the benefit of every doubt. We don’t need another. By the way, what has Miami done to merit a franchise? Lost the one it had if I remember correctly. Let’s not change our principles just so that we can have a big club like Barca involved. I mean has Chivas really brought up the quality of play in MLS? Not until they started putting as many Americans on the field that they could afford.
Although I’m excited about garcia, I really hope the dynamo are looking at signing another striker with a little more experience. I think you need an experienced striker up front wen ching is out. Overall, I’m about 75 percent over losing dero and getting pretty excited about the new season…
Garcia is an exciting potential that needs to be kept in perspective.
As stated in the blog we have the tendency to raise the bar to quickly on young players in this league.
Dynamo are still in the market for a more mature striker that is for sure.
Larry, is very simple, 2 out of the 7 cities have pulled out, and one is about to pull out as well if they don’t get the stadium deal, a must for Garber. He is okay with Miami using the FIU stadium, mainly cause like Marcelo said, the soccer team will make money off of the conscesions and parking, like if the stadium was theirs! Portland, St. Louis are good, I really am pulling for STL, but they were running into some trouble, I think Portalnd and someone else will get a chance at the 19th or 20th spots. In my opinion it should be Miami and STL, I hope STL can land a franchise, they are a soccer righ town, plus with the Rams, and Blue, as the failing teams, they can’t count on the Cardinals soon (MLB) but I hope they get the stadium lined up!
I don’t think Dallas or Dallas fans should be upset on missing on this kid — how many GAs can their roster hold?! In addition, they have one of the other bright US U-20 striker prospects in Peri Marosevic and previously had Abdus Ibrahim, before they made the decision to trade him.
Who is this James kid that is a GA? I haven’t heard about that one at all. I thought the only GAs on Houston’s roster were Kamara, Cruz and now Garcia.
If Houston also picks up Ngwenya, how can they keep so many strikers on the smaller sized rosters for ‘09? Will the club then be looking to deal Wondolowski, for example?
This is a great signing. I had no idea that he’d be categorized as Generation Adidas.
I wonder if we’ll get to see much of him this year. It really is a shame that there is no reserves team this year as Garcia would get a lot out of that system.
It sounds like the Dynamo are really going to play up his Mexican heritage and I think it’d be great to see the Hispanic community get behind this young kid and to make him feel at home in Houston.
It still seems that we need a more experienced striker prior to opening the season, but it’s been a great offseason in my opinion.
My Bad …Julius James isn’t Gen Addidas. Given the hype last year I thought he was.
Wondo mostly played central midfield last year (attacking mid) in the reserve games and played midfield in college as well. My guess is Dom will use him to back up Holden. That leaves them with Ching, Kamara, Garcia (a rookie) and a player to be named later. 4 strikers with a couple guys in Wondo and Cameron that can fill in if needed. Seems about right given the international duty Ching will see. Heck Kamara might see more int’l time as well.
I have seen Felix play alot in the last two years. He can be great and then he can be real off. He gets mad easy and then he just gets his game messed up. Every game I have been at he got mad about something . I think he will be a real good player after being with the Dynamo for awhile. Dom knows how to grow players. I just know Felix isn’t really first team and Corey and Geoff are still way better options.
VooDoo? So basically mexico does not believe that they are good enough to beat the United States unless they play in mexico or bring in black magic? Sounds like SOME people in mexico are admitting that the United States is better and it will take a stroke of bad luck in order for mexico to win. I, as a US fan, find it hard to believe that too many hard core mexico fans would believe this would work. Many still believe that mexico is better and would not result to voodoo in order to get their team on top. (btw, they do not have to beat the US on US soil in order to advance… They can protect their own home soil and pull off a few road wins to do that.)
Has voodoo ever worked?
Hey Glen! the RSS feeds are not working correctly becuase there are WAV. files posted instead of MP3! plus only the 1st hour is available in some places! hope you guys can update the links! want to hear the Dero’s interview! thanks Glen!
Brilliant move for the Dynamo getting Garcia. Another GA player (and a reserve at that) whose salary doesn’t count against the cap. These are the shrewd moves that will carry us through until we get our stadium and the additional revenue streams it will bring. Nice work Oliver Luck.
NEW USMNT CHANT IDEA:
VooDoo, shmoo doo, El Tri plays like doo doo!
Sorry about the RSS feeds on the podcast, I am working on it,
Dwayne DeRosario was very appreciative of his time in Houston.
Can you imagine if US fans had Mexican voodoo dolls and put pins in them as a promotion? You’d never hear the end of it.
