So what do we learn from the low turn-out for Mexico/Guyana?

Mexico came to BBVA Compass Stadium to take on Guyana in what was technically a Guyana home game in World Cup qualifying.
Mexico would score five goals in an eight minute span to win 5-0 against a small country who few even know where it is on a map and has a population of 770,000.

Those involved with the rights to the game moved it to the states from Guyana (technically the home team) and ultimately the game ended up in the new Dynamo stadium drawing around 12,000 fans.

My first inclination was that this could be a good thing and potentially get some who have not been in the new stadium exposed.
This may have happened but the low turn-out was surprising? Or was it?

High ticket prices ($70 lowest priced ticket ), meaningless game with Mexico already advancing in Concacaf qualifying, little known opponent, and a short time to promote all could be factored in.

Earlier in the year El Salvador/New Zealand outdrew this game for a “friendly” drawing 15,000.

We took one look at the ticket prices and said NO THANKS for all the reasons you gave about it being a meaningless game, etc. The whole situation was not handled very well, period. We saved our $ for a Dynamo playoff game! Now that is a meaningful game!

So who’s bright idea was it to set the ticket prices so high. As the BBVA stadium owner wouldn’t you want to expose the most people possible to the brand new stadium. Isn’t that why businesses give things away for free at the grand opening and for a few weeks at the new store?

BBVA had no say in ticket prices. This was purely on the shoulders of the organizers that basically rented BBVA. Ticket prices were a joke, and there was no way I was shelling out my money to watch that. I did see if on TV, and thought Guyana played well in the first half. Once the goal came, the floodgates opened up.

Short promotion, high ticket prices, timing and an irrelevant game which was technically a home game for Guyana.
Fifa, Concacaf, US Soccer all get a slice of the pie.

I was not going to pay $70.00 for a game against a team that I could not find any info on the players! I went on line and try to find where some of those players where playing and could not find any info on them.
I don’t think those teams should be included in the Concacaf tney!

I am glad to see that Jack Warner got a job working in Guyana!

What I also learned from Friday night? New Zealanders in Houston are a powerful force!
