Call it a game that defines where soccer lies in two countries.
In the minds of many, whenever the United States and Mexico get together the game becomes a statement on where both national team programs are.
Clouded judgment? Probably, but it is not a bad thing when you consider the growth of the sport in the United States. To judge based on one game is dangerous, but yet it can also be revealing.
One thing the game gave us was a glimpse of the future protagonists for both teams as they head into World Cup qualifying. Some might have been identified in Wednesday’s 2-2 tie; others wait for their opportunity.
There is a newness to both squads that is exciting.
Here are a few thoughts from Wednesday night:
