Should Dynamo go after Ngwenya?

JOSEPH NGWNEYA’s Europe venture has not be going so well.
Recently, it was clear he was not in favor at ANTALYASPOR in the TURKISH SUPERLIGA.
In fact he has only appeared three times for his Turkish club with his greatest moment a goal against GALATASARAY via his head months ago.
He also had a cup of coffee in Austria and a three week trial at BAYERN MUNICH courtesy of KLINSMANN.

Apparently now the man from PLUMTREE, ZIMBABWE has been released at his TURKISH CLUB.

It would be an easy transition back into the club for NGWNEYA and who can forget his best moments in MLS with the Dynamo.
He could come back to the open arms of Dynamo fans.

One wonders if anyone else has interest in Europe.
So should the DYNAMO swoop in and make an attempt at bringing NGWENYA back?

Duh…it is a no-brainer. He could challenge himself here by going after the Golden Boot.

    Godspeed, Dynamo.

  2. Travis says:

    Ngwenya? yes, please.

Glenn, to take it back to Ching on the National team… I still don’t understand it. While he may be at the top of the pecking order for Bradley currently, do you think that will still hold true for South Africa? I just don’t see him being a factor in another 1 1/2 years (at this level). That being said, why not give another forward some valuable time with the National side for the friendly?

A completely unrelated topic… it was awesome watching Dempsey score against Chelski last week. What do you see as his optimal position for the national team?

Happy New Year. Glenn, thanks for another great year of soccer coverage. Houston is lucky to have you.

    Absolutely!!!

    Travis,
Alot depends on injury with Ching. I am not saying it is a given but his experience internationally is a plus.
He is a different forward type than Altidore or Dempsey if he plays up front. That is why he is in contention.
If he is not up there in 2010 it will mean others emerge.
I am pumped with Dempsey brace and hope that he continues to thrive.
We need his edge and unpredictability with national team.
The less defensive responsibility for him the better which leads me to playing him as a striker closer to goal.
    Glenn

    Carlos,
He has had a pretty unproductive time since he left the Dynamo.
Where is he mentally? Does he even want to return to the states or is he still pursuing the Euro dream.
He has scored one goal to the best of my knowledge since he left the Dynamo. Definetly have to “check” him out before he returns if he so desires and the Dynamo and JN can strike a deal.
Looks like a pretty good option right now with Landin deal not coming off.

  6. Brian says:

He was an important part of the 2007 Dynamo squad, he can be an important part of the 2009 squad, I say go for it.

  7. Ramiro says:

HELL YES THEY SHOULD! i really think he can come back and jump right back into it. well maybe not right away but wont take too long. as long as he doesnt get a trade deal after one season like jaqua…

  8. BrianH says:

Definitely! Joe was a very entertaining player to watch, and I believe he will pick up where he left off.

  9. coop says:

I would always take Ngwenya back if he is available. He turned us down last time but if no one offers him a deal in Europe, perhaps he would come back this time. He may not do well in European soccer but he has proved what he can do here.

I am more concerned with Bobby Boswell possibly signing to that same Turkish side. He is a solid CB for us and we need stability in the back with E-Rob’s inconsistancy last year. So maybe we should bolster our defensive players a little.

  10. Marco says:

    Ngwenya? Yes!

  11. av8tor says:

I’m with Coop…first priority is Boswell.

Ngwenya-Ching-Kamara is interesting up front. Can certainly get some different looks out of that group, and we know he meshes.

Travis? Ching-bashing? Here? Bradley has a job to do, and it’s qualifying for So. Africa. Let’s get beyond that before the “projects” come in. The team style right now calls for Ching up front. His work rate, and his body-and-hold style haven’t been matched by anyone else, and the US team is not built for two flash forwards. He and Dempsey make a good pair up front.

Let’s get the qualifying done first. Then we’ve got the Confederations Cup to see if the projects will step up on the big stage.

  12. Travis says:

Av8tor- I don’t think questioning Ching’s selection for an upcoming friendly can be considered “Ching-bashing”. Clearly Bradley is treating this friendly as a chance to get some new players some experience. I just think it’s odd that Ching is named to the side. If his style of play hasn’t been matched by anybody to date let’s mix it up at forward and see what works. The friendly is a perfect time to do that. I like Ching as a player but you know exactly what he is going to give you at this point of his career.

  13. Ramiro says:

    thats my favorite ngwenya goal!!!

  14. coop says:

Yep, you know what you’re getting with Ching. A solid holding forward. He traps well and uses his size to keep defenders off the ball with his back to goal. That is his job and how Bradley currently plays us. The U.S. is a set-piece squad and Ching is an aerial threat of a forward. That’s what he does, hold and strike with his head and that is a perfect fit for the current U.S. setup.

  15. glenndavis says:

The man is an honest striker and helps on the defending side as well.
His performance in the GOLD CUP final was classic with his effort to change that game.
He is not selected first and foremost as a goal-scorer. It is the other intangibles he brings. His chemistry with LD is also an added benefit.

  16. Travis says:

Not questioning Ching’s spot of the national side for qualifiers. His unique role up top is hard to argue. Just not sure why he’s been named to this specific squad for the FRIENDLY.

  17. glenndavis says:

    Travis,
    Your questions are legit.
Ching is included because he is in MLS, he will be called up for the Mexico game barring injury and it is important for coaches to measure “potentials” with some of the current regulars.
This will give Bob Bradley an opportunity to play someone different like Davies or Cooper alongside Ching and see if their is a chemistry.
If it were all newbies coming in it would be a poor decision not to play them with some that have experience.
    Glenn

  19. coop says:

I would like to see Ching and Cooper up front. Two good sized and physical forwards. Cooper deserves more looks on the national side and could prove to be a potent goal scorer for the U.S..

  20. av8tor says:

Right on the money Glenn. This may be a friendly, but it’s not a throwaway…it’s a tune-up for Mexico. There are some folks getting a shot (Cooper, Cameron), so there is some experimentation going on. And on a purely selfish note, I like to see some of our men in Orange getting a bit of competitive work in before the next CONCAChamps round kicks off.

  21. mario says:

    yes!!

  22. wren says:

I would welcome JN only if we can lock him down to a multi-year deal. It may have worked out the last two years but I’m not a fan of getting hired guns midseason or 1-year deals and expecting long term results. Since JN already bailed once and Jacqua has now stiffed us twice, this “forward-plays-half-a-year-and-leaves” act is getting tiresome. The finger in the dike approach will always be more expensive and riskier than finding young talent and building from the ground.

  23. Martek says:

Boy, you go on vacation out of town for a few days, and look at what you miss!!!

1 year or more, I don’t think it really matters in this day and age. The only thing that matters is right now, and right now Joseph Ngwenya would fit in perfectly right here at the site of his greatest moments as a pro. You know, the trade for Ngwenya, which in many ways created the structure of the last two MLS Cup wins, was a classic win-win situation. Now signing him again would be the same thing, a win for a player who needs to get his career back on track, and a win for a team who desperately needs his ball skill and pace.

Glenn, do you know if there has been any contact between Joseph and the club?

  24. John says:

Give him a salary that is based on his talent not the unbilievable unsustainable peanuts that is published on the internet, its a disgrace because the man helped us win tropies too. That Is why we lose good players coz of greed by clubs who fail to treat these first class players well, like in Europe, Asia, Africa, S America etc
