Liverpool yesterday where beaten 3-1 at home by Aston Villa. At Anfield? Yes, at Anfield.
A Lukas own goal ironically got things going in the wrong direction for the Reds in front of 40,000 plus fans and and a late first half goal off a corner further incensed manager Rafa Benitez who clearly was asking the fourth official why so much stoppage time had been added in the first half.
Yet as much as you want to complain about that you have to defend the corner and Liverpool did not heading in 2-0 down at the break.
A Fernando Torres goal neatly tucked under the crossbar who give hope but in the end Aston Villa buoyed by a spectacular goalkeeping performance from Brad Friedel (unreal career) pulled off the valuable three points.
Is Benitez beyond it and will Liverpool compete for the EPL title this year? I say no.

I have nothing against Liverpool (the team) but after the shameful way that their Fans behaved in the Steven Cohen episode maybe it is just desserts for them. If you have a problem with the man for making statements then take it out on him but leave his family out of it.
Rafa whining about something, seriously? Sometimes I think they could win a match 5:0 and he would still find something to complain about.
Dynamo Match against Arabe should be interesting especially if Arabe plays with the same intensity and attitude that they showed against Pachuca. I would gladly take a point there.
Bayern in trouble in Germany with 2 Points (should have been only 1 except for a blown call) after three matches and their Fans are not happy. They wrote an open letter questioning the Clubs leadership and transfer policies that made the News and Rounds on all the Soccer Shows in Germany in the last few days. I enjoyed seeing Aristide Bance (a former player for my old Hometown team) now with Mainz doing well against them and if his Bicycle Kick would have gone in it may have been a Goal of the Year candidate in Germany.
I, for one, would love to see both Liverpool and Everton relegated, and the way they are playing, it could happen. Imagine the EPL without a bunch of Merseyside Muppets!
90% of Liverpool fans are scum and they showed it in the way they acted towards Stephen Cohen. That is why when the Kop sings that ridiculous “You’ll Never Walk Alone!” song, I proudly say, “I’d Rather Walk Alone!”
A friend of mine and I were talking the other night and we agreed that the greatest thing we could see this year would be Michael Owen scoring the match winning goal in injury time at Anfield in front of the Kop, and kissing his new badge!
Benitez is an idiot. Maybe he can come coach at New York Red Bull. One minute of stoppage is the norm for a first half, but Reina blatantly delayed the corner and hey, Pudlians can cry all the way back to their Liverpool Slums!

Good interview with Luis Landin. It sounds like he’s here for the right reasons.
A bit off topic I know but does anyone know if Landin traveled with the team to Panama. I know he is not eligible to play in the Concacalf games but I am wondering if he is practicing wiht them and getting integrated into the locker room. Otherwise there won’t be much opportunity to practice ahead of the Game Sunday in Colorado.

Let’s not go overboard here. Villa’s reserves beat the Chelsea Reserves 4-0 today. I caught parts of the game on Chelsea TV during lunch!
