FIFA has banned PERU from playing international soccer including the 2010 World Cup in SOUTH AFRICA.
The problem stems from a dispute between the Peruvian government and the FPF (Peruvian soccer federation) over the appointment of the new Peruvian Federation president.
The government claims the election was irregular (another nice name for rigged).
This is a heavy blow for a country that produced international great Teofilo “Nene” Cubillas. Peruvian clubs also have been suspended from taking part in international competitions, including next years COPA LIBERTADORES.
So will the new president be removed for the good of Peruvian soccer? Stay tuned…..Friday PACHUCA will hold an official press day prior to their departure for the FIFA WORLD CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS in JAPAN. As winners of the final Concacaf Champions Cup they qualified. So the tie in to tomorrow night is that the DYNAMO are playing to advance in the newly formed CONCACAF CHAMPIONS LEAGUE. THE DYNAMO HAVE TO WIN this match. A draw and FIRPO will advance to the final eight who vie to go to JAPAN next December.
Can you imagine the DYNAMO taking on MANCHESTER UNITED ? I can one day.

This would seem to open up slots for Copa Lib. action.
Any takers from CONMEBOL towards CONCACAF clubs?!??
Could any MLS teams join the Copa Lib. if peruvian team is banned next year?
Interesting thoughts about joining the Libertadores. About MLS teams joining, my first thought it “no”. They would fill Peru’s spots with other qualifiers. But if the decison makers at CONMEBOL decide to invite MLS teams (considering the that US MNT has played in Copa America, its not a completely absurd idea to let MLS teams play), who do you invite? Most of the Libertadores tournament runs from February to July.
If the Dynamo win tomorrow, they’ll be busy with the latter stages of the Champions League. Maybe Columbus gets asked.
Though, in the end, I think that they’ll find other CONMEBOL countries to fill those slots. Remember, DC United didn’t do much when they played in the Copa Sudamerica. Why would CONMEBOL want to see other teams?
Libertadores would cause scheduling problems potentially that the MLS just addressed with Superliga and Concacaf Champions league.
I myself would love to see MLS teams in South America, in Argentina or Brazil taking on the likes of Boca, River and Sao Paulo.
What about in Uruguay and Paraguay? This as opposed to Central America…….MLS is connected with Concacaf and Chuck Blazer so the allegiance is there thus there is no push to get into Libertadores.
for anyone that follows Mexico soccer, edgar castillo from santos has been dealt to the carrer-killers America. wont be official till end of playoffs. what a bummer. there goes his potential…
That would be sweet. I have always dreamed of the day in Japan where the Orange would fly high and proud vs the EU elite. But first things first….Firpo must go down!
Libertadores would be great tourney. I’d like to see the invite a couple of years down the road, when Superliga has outlived its usefulness and is dropped.
CONMEBOL has not made a final decision yet, should come on 17 December. I don’t see them making an invite to MLS (yet) as we have some things to prove in our own regional tournament before we get to play with the big boys. The sad thing in all of this that (with small exceptions) the majority of the Soccer Crowd in the US cares more about MLS games than the International games. Same goes for US National Team games, more people flock to a bar to watch Stoke vs Hull than support their own country. Anyway, pardon the rant but I have been up since 3AM because I am fired up about the Firpo game tonight. Time to let it all on the table and finish the year on a positive note.
The thought of Pachuca in the FIFA World Club Championships just made me throw up in my mouth.
If the Peruvian federation had an irregular election for the new president, then we know there’s only one way for FIFA to let them back in. The government will have to forget about the rule of law and let FPF have the president they choose. If Blatter objects to your election, you weren’t his boy. And the opposite hold s as well. Sad cometary, both ways.
I hope Pachuca does well in Japan. They’re carrying the banner for CONCACAF, so how could I do otherwise? But to be honest, they didn’t do so well last time and really need to do better with this chance.
I can defiantly see Dynamo at the WCC some day. The day may get here sooner then some might think.
