Soccer Matters with Glenn Davis presented by MEMORIAL HERMANN SPORTS MEDICINE INSTITUTE on Fox Sports Houston will take this week off and return to the airwaves on December 3rd at 5pm

*REAL SALT Lake put together a sequence of ten passes before scoring the tying goal in the second half. They were tearing apart the Galaxy midfield and with some better finishing and play in the final third should have produced a few goals.

*Bruce Arena started a midfield with Donovan and Beckham wide I believe to respect the strength of RSL in midfield. Ultimately he moved Donovan forward but the dominating performance in midfield by RSL came without one of their if not best possession player Javier Morales who went out after getting kicked by Beckham. Add to that the fact that Will Johnson played only a half due to food poisoning in midfield and this was an impressive performance. No one would have thought that Clint Mathis or Andy Williams would have logged so many minutes and LA was clearly outplayed in this area and at times were so unbalanced as a team.
Kyle Beckermann was outstanding in his range and passing ability and could have been the game’s MVP in my opinion. Why the Rapids traded him years back I don’t know.
The Galaxy had no answers and David Beckham looked clearly a step behind the pace in many instances.
*RSL clearly was the better footballing team and produced the better chances….Findley and Movsisyan did not have a great day of finishing although Findley did produce the ever important tying goal.
*Bruce Arena was hoping to choke this game off at 1-0……
*Beckermann was truly outstanding and for me the MVP of this final. His range, leadership and use of the ball exceptional and his endurance impressive. Did this performance improve his standing with the U.S.? Seems the kind of player you could use off the bench at a World Cup…..a great spirit.

* Wigan players have offered to pay for fans tickets after their embarrassing 9-1 loss at Tottenham Hotspur.

*Dynamo list of protected players due tonight as the expansion draft is this Wednesday.

*Robertson Stadium will host Interliga matches in January:
Jan. 2
Atlante vs. Estudiantes Tecos
America vs. Santos

Jan 6.
Jaguares vs Puebla
Tigres vs Monterrey (this will be a beauty and could sell out the Rob)

December 4th is the World Cup draw…………..Tomorrow night radio will have local political leaders, Real Salt Lake Nick Rimando plus Dominic Kinnear and more from the Dynamo.
Don’t miss Dynamo All Access tomorrow night from 7-9pm

  1. Ramiro says:

Why does everyone question wether or not to preotect Landin? The expansion draft rules say that DPs are exempt unless the player has a no trade clause…Does Landin have a no trade clause?

  2. cj says:

Glenn, wow, nice score getting Nick Rimando the MVP of the MLS Cup. He seems like a really good guy.

Glenn, ask Dom what are the chances of signing Holden and will the collective bargaining agreement battle change any of the strategies of signing old and new players.

    Houston Dynamo

    Ashe, Corey
    Boswell, Bobby
    Cameron, Geoff
    Ching, Brian
    Davis, Brad
    Hall, Tally
    Hainault, Andrew
    Holden, Stuart
    Mullan, Brian
    Oduro, Dominic
    Weaver, Cameron

Chabala is probably the odd man out. This would be a great pickup for Philadelphia. He will be missed if they do pick him up.

  5. Robert says:

Glenn, How is Chabala not protected over Oduro, Mullan, or Cory. Im all for Cory and Mullan backs his mates, but Chabala proved that he can hold it down with the best MLS has to offer. Hopefully Barrett didn’t go crying to Dom, to get his starting job and badge back. But on a REAL note, Dom is smarter than that, he knows something we don’t know.

  6. JC says:

    AHH!!

    oduro protected over chewy?

u guess hell is frozen already
    hot snow is falling up
    and midnight is lunch time

    again I scream AHH!!

chabala is the left back we need now that barret is not as fast as he used to be.

all the other names were a otugh decision. but oduro was the right name to be unprotected, that was a no brainer, unless there is something else going on…like a trade or money

  7. Ramiro says:

i believe everyones fear, including mine, will come true…chaballa will call philly home next season…i think most people that have been comenting are pulling the plug of oduro too soon. i really think oduro is going to have a breakout 2010. hes taking a little long but im pretty sure its going to happen.

  8. Jose says:

Glenn, When we got Landin, I was exstatic! I finally thought that we got us a true scorer. But, seeing him hobble around and gasping for air in the handful of games that he played made me think of a player not taking the MLS seriously and not giving his all! Do you really think that this off season he will loose twenty pounds and get into form? Or, do you think he will look for a transfer to a Mexican club where he feels comfortable? I’m trying to look optimistic for the 2010 season but it doesn’t look good so far! Forever Orange!!!!!!!!!!!

  9. fcu says:

RSL clearly better than the Galaxy? They were tied after 120 minutes and won on penalties versus a rookie keeper. Pitch is a disaster up there, don’t care what anyone says.

  10. Robert says:

Im not an Oduro basher, i support all our players. Its just Oduro hasnt shown that he can be a starter in this league. Chabala has.

  11. Jose says:

Oduro is trash! I’m sorry, but what good is speed if you can’t finish? I know our hands our pretty much tied when it comes to bringing in better talent at the forward position. It just seems to me that in the last three seasons we been subtracting talent rather than bringing in talent! It’s frustrating!

  12. Nord says:

I’m gonna miss Chewbacca when he’s gone. Other than that, I don’t have a problem with the list. Sure, Oduro being protected is a bit of a head scratcher if you’re basing it on donkey-touch Oduro of September/Early October, but not if you’re basing it on blazing-fast, backline-torching, seems-to-have-his-touch-somewhat-under-control Oduro of the last couple weeks of the season.

  13. Robert says:

Whoever thinks Oduro is gonna have a breakout year in 2010 is smokin something. He couldnt hit water if he fell out of a boat. What good is his speed if he cant score? Defense wins Championships. We maybe going the wrong way on this one though. Philly papers are saying that they would like to take Rico. Who wouldnt? Its going to be interesting to see who they take. I just dont wanna go back to those Cry~Baby Captain days. FOREVER ORANGE AND FOREVER CHABALA

  14. Kirk says:

There is a minimum number of international players that you must protect. Accoring to the draft rules:

    INTERNATIONAL PLAYER PROTECTION REQUIREMENT:

    • Teams may make available a number of international players equal to their total number of international players minus 3, provided that if a team has 3 or less international players it may make available not more than 1.

According to the Dynamo Web site we have 3 International players (Landin, Oduro, Hainault) meaning the Dynamo can only leave one of them unprotected. For some reason Pat isn’t considered as an international.

All that said the Dynamo choice was between protecting Oduro or Landin, They are betting that Philly will not use their DP slot on a expansion pick, a good bet I think. Chabala is one of my favorites but this wasn’t a choice between Oduro and Mike .

  15. Robert says:

OK… then Chabala has been more of a contributer than Weaver, who cannot stay on the field. I just dont want to go through this problem again, try to find a LB that can hold his position down. What do you think Glenn?
