Despite players off to international duty Major League Soccer posted some pretty solid attendance numbers this past weekend.
New York 15,546
total attendance 107,720 for an average of 17,953
Fans also were treated to 27 goals over 6 games for an average of over 4+ goals a game.
Now I know the attendance is padded a bit in various markets but these are solid numbers. Player acquisitions have upped the intrigue in the league with various teams and the use of younger players and reserves might have helped in the category of goals scored this past weekend.
If MLS is going to get stretched with various international tournaments and friendlies within the league then the time has come to put more resources into the depth and quality of all these squads. Ultimately the overall quality of the league will get better with more competition within teams. Creating depth is a difficult thing without money in MLS and some teams have clearly been better at this than others.
Still you have to like the crowds coming out in certain markets this past weekend. Thoughts?
