Don’t forget to check out the MLS ALL STAR game tonite from Sandy, Utah. The Real Salt Lake facility with the back-drop of the mountains will undoubtably look beautiful and provide the perfect canvas for the game.
Dynamo manager Dominic Kinnear plus his players like Stuart Holden, Geoff Cameron and Brad Davis will represent. Brian Ching and Pat Onstad also were selected.
Ching and Onstad will not play.
Everton led by manager David Moyes is a great premier league story and no doubt in pre-season form. Tim Howard is the U.S. connection while Jo, Marouane Fellaini , Tim Cahill and others are familiar.
Javier Morales of RSL will wear a number on his jersey (77 the same number Andy Williams wears for RSL) in honor of Andy Williams wife who is battling leukemia…………So what do you think of the MLS All Star format? Like these types of games or not and can they promote the sport in the U.S.? Are you excited about the ALL STAR GAME coming to Houston in 2010?
“Soccer Matters with Glenn Davis” re-airs tonite on Fox Sports Houston Friday at 2pm……..The re-air features HBU mens coach Steve Jones, Houston Express youth soccer club director Mark Gibbs, The Helmet Crew plus top ten goals and Dynamo highlights. This weekend’s show which airs at 9am Saturday includes an interview with Ricardo Clark of the Dynamo, Dallas Texans Houston Division director Lee Baker plus youth player Kyle Emerson. I break down the U.S. loss to Mexico, Ronaldinho, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, top ten goals and we hear from you the fan!!! The show airs on Comcast and ATT Uverse. How do you like the show and what would you like included in it?

I really like the format of the all-star game. The MLS games are much more competitive than all-star games in other leagues/sports. It makes for a much more entertaining event than something like east vs. west.
Everton is a nice “get” and what Javier Morales is doing is quite touching and classy. Looking forward to watching tonight.

I enjoy the all-star game in the MLS vs the world format. I do wish the all-star week was uncluttered so the selected all-stars would play instead of backing out for much needed rest. (no knock on the athletes, just the scheduling) The new show is great. You kept what was good from last year’s and have the additional backing of FSN to iron out the wrinkles. We are lucky to have you and this outlet in Houston to promote the Dynamo and soccer. Other markets would die to have this coverage. Will you be mentioning the city council approval for the new practice facility? Aside from the Stadium issue, this is a major coup for the Dynamo. They will spend more time at the practice facility than at the stadium and it can go a long way to paying dividends.
I do not like the all-star format for the simple reason that it is somewhat insulting to the league. I realize that the teams the All-Stars play against are not push-overs, but the event only say’s that it takes the best players from the entire MLS to take on a decent English team. Nothing against Everton and the great season they had last year, but they aren’t UEFA Champions or anything.
It’s patronizing to the league and fans for our ‘All-Stars’ to take on teams that are in pre-season form and be proud of a victory. Soccer is a team sport and these players play against each other on their own teams all year only to be thrown together to play an international side. It doesn’t make sense to me to try and force the concept of an All-Star game (which is entirely American and we are obsessed with) into a sport that it really doesn’t fit.
I can appreciate the honor of being selected as an All-Star but the league should be focused on improving play rather than perenially being satisfied with beating/competing with these pre-season form teams.
If anything I think an East vs West format is more suitable or have the Supporters Shield winners play an international side, at least they would be rewarded for winning the damn thing that way.
There is a reward for winning the Supporter’s Shield its called CONCACHAMPIONS but yes Coop we should be more worried about bettering our league first!
Coop, the MLS did beat a freshly spent Arbramovich Chelsea in Chicago.
I wished they would have played Inter or Man U or even Barca but they didn’t let it go, they’ll get better teams eventually!
