The Argentine Football Association has signed manager Diego Maradona to a contract extension.
According to reports from the press his extension will pay him 1.2 million dollars and run through the end of World Cup qualifying.
The Argentina FA highlighted the fact that large crowds have come out to support the squad which has in turn satisfied sponsors.
Makes you wonder the criteria for signing a manager these days.
Argentina has struggled in World Cup qualifying losing in Bolivia 6-1 at altitude while the Juan Roman Riquelme episode has also created turmoil.
I wonder how the sponsors will like it if for some crazy occurrence they were not able to make it to South Africa?
Yes, I know it is Argentina……..

Glenn,
The only reason the re-signed Maradona was because I wanted too much money! Sorry!
Coach H
What’s even more shocking to me is that they sign Maradona through WC QUALIFYING ONLY and he’s not raging in the press about being insulted or disrespected.
Glen, saw the game again on TIVO and marveled again how the U.S. won that game. Spain was relentless the whole game, attack, attack, attack! Always racing down the wings and pounding the middle only to have Gooch, Demerit or someone else punch it away. Spain without question is a master moving the ball on the pitch. I still cannot believe they did not score. The brilliance of Howard on goal was apparent throughout the whole match. Everyone in the stadium and the announcers knew that Spain played to win. They were on the pitch before the U.S. players came out at halftime. They sensed as a team that the game was getting away from them and they got together to encourage each other to play harder. The second half began with wave after wave coming at the red, white & blue but somehow the ball still would not go into the net. Frustration and panic was starting to set in. They pushed the ball harder and faster up the field and it was inevitable that they would make a mistake. Dempsey made it 2-0.
Bradley made a hard tackle but no-way did it merit a red card! They will miss him for Brazil. But that was the way the game was played. No quarter was asked or given by both teams. It was a hard fought game that left many exhausted. The way the U.S. played against Spain, they can beat Brazil. Brazil is flashy not methodical like Spain. I can’t wait for Saunday’s game and this time I am going to a sports bar with lots of soccer fans. Go U.S.A.
Manny, I’m with you. It was an amazing display of determination from both sides. It’s a shame you don’t live in NW Florida cuz all my rowdy friends are coming over for that and tyhe BBQ will be cranked wide open with beverages to boot.
A gutted Dynamo v a gutted L.A side Sunday night. Let’s hope for a festive mood!
