Most of our attention might be on the Dynamo and Seattle tomorrow at Robertson Stadium but lets not forget that Manchester United head into Stamford Bridge tomorrow where they have not won since April of 2002. The battle for the top spot in the premiership can be caught on FSC at 10am.
United’s record the last 6 years has not been good in London and they will be without Rio Ferdinand but will welcome back Nemanja Vidic. Keep an eye on this as Didier Drogba has been on a tear in the EPL scoring 9 goals in the last 11 games.
United or Chelsea and why?
CHICAGO knocked off NE 2-0 tonight in an intense 2nd leg that sends them to the Eastern Conference final against Real Salt Lake. The Fire are the only remaining team out of the east and will host next weekend. NE was a great story this year battling injury and for my money Steve Nicol could have been the coach of the year. For the sake of MLS it will be a much better spectacle playing at Toyota Park in a real soccer stadium as opposed to going back to Gillette Stadium.
Cuauhtemoc Blanco scoring a classic goal in the final minutes and remains a player for the important moments. John Thorrington returned and also scored for the Fire.
Intense and competitive from the word go….
Seattle trained at Robertson Stadium today and Freddy Ljunberg may be rumored to have other options but a little bird told me he will be back next year which is good for MLS.
Ljunberg will not like the surface at Robertson nor the dimensions of the field tomorrow………….Tyrone Marshall looks as though he will get the start at the back for Seattle if he passes a fitness test……he will replace Patrick Ianni a former Dynamo who hit the crossbar in the first leg. Marshall and Brian Ching have a less than friendly history.

In the matter of attendance tomorrow, a lot of good reasons have been stated, but I think everyone is overlooking the obvious – Texans vs. Colts. I am a world football (the real kind) fan and Dynamo supporter first and foremost, but NFL throwball is a huge deal, and the Texans for the first time ever may have a shot this year. How do you get most native Americans to ignore that, even if they do have a passing interest in world football? So my question is – why does an important game like this have to be scheduled against the Texans? How about a 5pm start? What about Saturday?
Dale Dynamo!
United or Chelsea? As a Liverpool supporter, I’m pulling for a draw, but I think Drogba is just too hot right now. My money is on Chelsea. This is too painful to watch with the Reds falling apart.
Go you Reds! YNWA
For some reason, Telefutura likes the 2pm kickoff. And since they drew the Dynamo match, 2pm it is. I wish it were a different time as well.
2 quick thoughts about the Chicago/New England match tonight:
1. Great crowd at Toyota Park. Well done Fire fans. Not only did you show up, but you made yourselves heard. Well done everyone!
2. Cuachtemoc Blanco: it has been a joy to watch you play in MLS. Hans Westerhof did tell Glenn that “Mexian players should spend a couple of years in MLS”. Hopefully they will follow in your footsteps. Not only have you given MLS a little more credibility in the Latin community, you have managed to lead a bit of a renaissance for both yourself, the Fire, and hard to believe but: El Tri (though Aguirre deserves some credit as well).
If by chance, you go home to Veracruz for good and never return, let me be one to say “thank you” for what you are doing with the Fire in MLS. It has been a wonderful to watch you play. I only hope we get to see a little more of you here in MLS.
Jon, you are right on about Senor White. Temoc and Juan Pablo Angel have been the best DPs the league has seen.
I also wish the time were different, but the only reason the Texans game is a big deal is because the team has been winning. Dynamo drew 30K last year or the year before in a playoff opposite the Texans, so it can be done.
And YAY to the Fire. I was dreading the visuals of another Eastern final with less than 10K at Gilette. Though my anarchic heart was rooting for the Revs in a way.
Chelsea takes the Mancunians 3-2 in the morning. Ref only gives 3 minutes of stoppage at the end and SAF’s head explodes as the final whistle blows right before Owen gets set to tee up a point blank shot. HAH!
Oh, and one more thing:
Dale.
Telefutura likes the 2 PM slot because they are not competing against any Mexican games.
Saturday evening and night has 80% of FMF games.
Sunday usually has 2 games, one at 12 PM, one at 6 PM.
I wrote 6 PM, I meant 4 PM.
oh yeah, forgot about the FMF matches at 4pm and 6pm. 2pm makes more sense from Telefutura’s point of view. We have to live with it.
Brian,
The casual fan as you stated may stay home to watch the Texans on tv. Then again each and every game brings different competition.
