Late, late show as Dynamo come back to earn point

The Dynamo came back late last night , the 90th minute in fact behind Will Bruin to earn a 3-3 draw with Toronto FC.

Scoring summary:

13th Jeremy Hall 1-0 TFC
20th Boswell 1-1
22nd Koevermanns 2-1 TFC
45th Koervermanns 3-1 TFC
73rd Bruin 3-2 TFC
90th Bruin 3-3

After a very lackluster first half that frankly seemed un-motivated at times, the Dynamo through manager Dominic Kinnear made changes that changed the course of the match.

AN UNMOTIVATED START
One wonders why when coming up against a team that has had real problems, criticism from fans and media? TFC looked a different team in the first half and Koevermanns was a real problem, player that knows his way around a penalty area.
The Dynamo made four changes in Andre Hainault, Luiz Camargo, Colin Clark, and Mac Kandji to their starting lineup.

SUBS change momentum:

Dom Kinnear brought on the energy of JeVaughan Watson 57th, Brian Ching 63rd, and Brian Ownby in the 77th and all three helped to change the course of the match.

WILL BRUIN:
The Dynamo striker in his second yr now has 8 goals and his finishing last night was superb.

GEOFF CAMERON:
A night of good passing from the big man who set up the final goal when moved into midfield by Kinnear.

JEVAUGHAN WATSON
Many were critical of the Jamaican 5 weeks ago but he has matured and is clearly the starting central midfield player. He helped to turn this game around by making deep runs after being brought into the game.
His performances are more professional and mature these days.

GIve me your thoughts on last night’s 3-3 draw.

Here’s my take on the game:

    1. We played uninspired football for 2/3 of the game. No one wanted to win 50/50 balls and there was ZERO creativity on offense during the run of play.

    2. Luiz Camargo – MIA. Hopefully for Luiz, like most of the Dynamo players, last night was just an anomaly. He was nowhere to be found and just didn’t seem to want the ball. I haven’t watched the broadcast yet but I suspect you didn’t call his name very often.

    3. Corey Ashe – a mixed bag. I agree with the opinion that Corey is doing better as he goes forward. However, I feel that he’s doing worse tracking back. The past two games have been his weakest in our defending third IMHO.

    4. The NEW JeVaughn Watson. I’ll readily admit to being one of those people who was ready to throw JeVaughn under the bus after last season. I’m pleasantly surprised to see him turn around and really produce for this team.

    5. Mac Kandji is not a hold-up player. I’ve yet to determine exactly what Mac’s strength is (pace?) but playing with his back to goal and winning balls in the air wasn’t good last night. He was consistently beat in the air but the TFC center back who was at least a half a foot shorter!

    6. Subs made the difference. I thought we were horrible for 60+ minutes. Then Dom starting trotting out the subs and the game changed. Each one of them made a HUGE difference in finishing the game with a point and not suffering our first loss at BBVA to MLS’s worst team (record-wise).

    7. Entertaining? Yes. These past two games have not been great exhibitions of wonderful football but they have CERTAINLY been entertaining affairs. Lots of goals, an ejection, ups and downs, a roller coaster of emotions.

    8. Brian Ownby – impact player of the game. I’ll tip my hat to our great Dancing Bear for man of the match but Ownby made the greatest impact in the least amount of field time. This kid is the real deal! I see him as a cross (no pun intended) between Brian Mullan and Danny Cruz. He has signs of Mullan’s skills coupled with the never-ending pace and energy of Danny Cruz.Hope he gets more field time (he should be ahead of Clark who’s fallen off the cliff as far as I’m concerned) though that will be challenging when Boniek Garcia arrives.

All in all I was glad to leave BBVA with the point but felt greatly unsatisfied that it wasn’t the full 3. Here’s hoping that this game serves as a wake-up call for the team. Can’t afford to go to Montreal flat and play against a team that is riding a huge high from their massive win in their “new” stadium.

    Forever Orange,
    Chuck

1 point vs. Toronto at home? WHAT A DISASTER! We should have won that game 4-0.

  3. Coach H says:

If Colin Clark plays another minute for the Dynamo, I will start the Fire Dom chants again. The guy is the biggest waste of space I have ever seen. I would rather have Ade Akinbiyi, Tony Caig, Sergio Koke and Luis Landin instead of him. I hope that when Boniek comes, we can get rid of him.

I am also convinced that Corey Ashe has incriminating photos of Dom. Why do we have international defenders on the bench and he still plays? The guy is a crappy defender and brings little to help this team. He cannot hold the ball, gives bad passes and is a bullfigthing defender, you know.OLE!

Credit to the boys for coming back and getting the point, but it should have never come to that.

More Ownby on the wing. That will work against Montreal!

A tie to Torinto at home is a loss.
The Dynamo have been starting slow the last few matches. This team was ripe for a loss. Toronto had a couple of good chances to score a fourth goal in the first half. We were lucky they did not.
The lack of hustle and team work needs to improve.
Kinnear was right on with his subs.
This team needs to play hard for 90 minutes not 45 and no one should be happy with it.
Bruin is showing improvement. He missed two headers in the first half. Credit should be given to him for not quitting and staying with it.
    Go Dynamo

  5. FrankD says:

that was a hard game to watch, Glenn. However, good insights by you and Eddie. Clark had me frustrated all night; Camargo has one dominant move to quickly return all his passes from whence they came; Cameron is a good back but he was totally lazy in his moves and almost got burned deep in our half for trying to get cute, etc, etc. The subs really kicked up the energy and added some excited and pride in the fan base. but, we do not need to keep that lineup in the cards for future games – lesson learned by Dom, I’m sure. Please let OBG be the real deal so we can finally get a right sided threat! Go Dynamo!

  6. Lantz OCU says:

I found this on the Chron.com a blog from Brian Ching during the playoff run in 2007. A key word that described the team in those days. Relentless. Never let up on opponents the entire game. Thats what kind of soccer we need to get back to.

  7. Kirk says:

Glenn you are right on. – The word I would use to best describe the dynamo is “listless”. They need to change that to “relentless”. – good call Lantz. I think they need to put that word up on the big screen before kickoff and the fans need to hold the team accountable to that description. I like it ……RELENTLESS, let’s see the guys live up to that!
