Did you catch the Dynamo and Seattle last night in a 1-1 draw on a hot, muggy night at Robertson Stadium with 17,000 fans?
Here are a few of my thoughts on this one.
EVEN MATCH?: The result of 1-1 was a just result and one must credit Seattle for the road effort. It is rare when a team comes in to Robertson to take a point off the Dynamo.
Seattle created some good road chances and picked up a huge point . The Dynamo struck first off the driven delivery from Brad Davis to Geoff Cameron who got
his first of the year via the flick on. Former Dynamo Nate Jacqua got the equalizer for Seattle ……..
GOALKEEPING: A great night for watching goalkeepers with Pat Onstad and Kasey Keller of Seattle. Onstad had three or four plays outside his box and outside the area.
His decision making was excellent and he was a bit busier than Keller who pulled off a great right handed save in the first half to rob Kei Kamara.
FREDDY LJUNBERG: He saw alot of the ball and was effective throughout the evening. The former Arsenal star got everything funneled through him from his team and clearly was
the most outstanding field player of the night creating chances for Seattle.
AMAZING MISS: Steve Zakuahani missed an empty net from five yards out…all it needed was a tap in after a Ljunberg pass. One of the greatest misses in the history of MLS.
Zakuahani did set up Nate Jacqua for the game tying goal to his credit.
CHANGE OF TEMPO….It was a hot night but the Dynamo did not really get a change of rhythm or speed in their attack and much of the game they spent trying to break down a settled Seattle defense. Especially in the second half, a hard time playing in to strikers who weren’t able to consistently hold up the ball led to a lack of involvement from Stuart Holden. Teams were hesitant to shoot from longer range. Good news for the Dynamo is that got their first choice midfield of Clark, Holden, Davis and Mullan on the field as starters for the first time in a long time.
LUIS LANDIN DEBUTS….some good hold up play, comfort on the ball and created a chance for Stuart Holden. A good start for Luis!

LETS TALK SOME EPL
Manchester United made a statement of sorts winning 5-0 on Saturday at Wigan….so where do you stand. How different is this team without Cristiano Ronaldo influence?
One can only consider how differently Manchester United are viewed without him…..The influence of this guy just standing on the field is amazing.
Arsenal crushed Portsmouth Saturday 5-1…..So Gunner fans can these youngsters compete at the top of the EPL this year under Arsene Wenger?
Chelsea rolled on with a 2-0 win at Fulham…Didier Drobga and Nicolas Anelka are a true handful right now!!
How about Burnley winning points again…this time beating Everton 1-0…..A great story for a club that has returned to the top flight for the first time in 33 years.
When will the adrenaline wear off? The toffees have great problems right now under David Moyes and the sooner Lescott moves to Manchester City the better.
Jozy Altidore debuted for Hull and set up the long goal of the game in a 1-0 win over Bolton, a great debut and his physical strength in the box to turn defenders was impressive.
He was unlucky not to score. If he gets playing time regularly I can only think where he COULD be after a full season in the Prem.
Liverpool vs Aston Villa today on ESPN……
MEXICAN LEAGUE UPDATE
UNAM Pumas have scored one goal and remain winless…….Club America defeated Cruz Azul in the Mexico City rivalry at Estadio Azul 3-2 on a late goalkeeping error from Jesus Corona. Monterrey pulled off a huge result winning at Tigres on a goal from Jesus Di Nigris 2-1 in this great rivalry match!!!
Thoughts on the EPL or Mexican league play? Or anything on your soccer mind!

Glenn,
2 things:
1. The ovation for Craig Waibel last night was incredible. The whole stadium rose to their feet to give a local legend a great ovation! OK….It might have had something to do with Landin coming on at the same time, but we all know how Dynamo fans feel about Craig Waibel. You also noticed the as soon as Waibel came on, Ljunberg came off! Fear the Waibel!
2. You forgot to mention the total domination of Fulhamerica by Chelsea. I don’t remember seeign a Fulham team dominated in such a way as they were yesteday. Didier Drogba has found his love for the game again and the rest of the Premier League better watch out. Next up in Burnley and Cindarella’s time at the ball ends on Saturday! When Chelsea thrashed Hull 3-0 at Hull last year, it started their demise, and the same goes for Burnley on Saturday!
Up the Blues!
Coach H
Lively match last night. Roundly outplayed by the Sounders all over the field. As much as I love Kei Kamara, he needs to keep his head on straight. He completely changed after the Keller save – pouting, miscommunicating, and generally playing without the requisite level of intensity. I know he takes more uncalled-fouls than just about anybody, but he needs to do better than he did last night. I’ll give him a little bit for the nagging injury, but he needs to step it up, especially with No. 7 looming large in his rear-view.
Awesome to see Oscar in the stands, and then to wake up to a story in the Barnacle suggesting the “dreaded final vote” is not too far off in the future.
And it was good to see some Seattle fans in the house, if only because it allowed me to heckle them with shouts of “Your timber and hippies are no match for our oil and guns!”
Nord,
I preferred this one:
In your Seattle Slums,
You look in the dustbin for something to eat,
You find a dead rat and you think it’s a treat,
In your Seattle Slums!
I stole it from Chelsea fans that sing that song to Liverpool fans, but it worked for last night!
Well, that game could have easily been Seattle 4 or 5 to Houston 1. We really got lucky one those missed goals.Glad we were able to hold them to a tie. They helped us by missing the “unmissable” goals.Of course, PAt made some massive plays yet again! What an asset for the Dynamo. Seems almost poetic justice for Seattle to have a goal called offsides, doesn’t it after that horrible goal call up in Seattle? Was Cochrane OK?? He got beat a lot up that side and thank goodness Mullan came to help, doing a great job. Maybe the hot, muggy weather affected Cochrane or something like a virus. Sure expected more from him. I agree about Kamara! He needs to get his head straight or something. Waiting on the ground for a call that is not coming while the ball is STILL in play seems dangerous and “unhelpful”. Barret, Clark, Cameron (great goal!!), Davis and all did good jobs and 95% of the time had Freddie L in view. Mr. L is an amazing player and I was very happy to see our guys take him on and win their share against him. NOT a boring game! I remain amazed at the different styles of reffing between the individual refs in the MLS.
I was with El Batallon for the first time…I have a friend that has only missed 2 games in almost four seasons…it was cool to learn some of the songs on the spot and sing with them, a great football experience…Landin was surprisingly in rhythm. I really expected him to be completely out of form due to his lack of play but glad to see he wasn’t. I’m not a De La Hoya fan, more of a Chavez/Marquez fan but it was nice to see him come visit us. That and well I respect him for investing in our hometown team, but really when you think about it, he’s even luckier that we LET him invest
!
The referee’s got it right this time. In Seattle the ball was not in the net and Seattle got the call anyway. Last night, Seattle was clearly offside. I had to pull up the Laws of the game to show my buddies that law 11 does not mention goalie. It only mentions defenders.
If the goalie comes out and there is a defender behind him…the defender now switches to an almost goalie role (except without hands and stuff) and the goalie now becomes the last defender…Get me?
The team took its foot off the accelerator in the second half.
not happy with Barrett on the goal seattle scored, he shouldve closed down on player with the ball… leaving him with the space, abled him to cross in the ball. dissaponting game. after the goal, four player said something to him and they didnt look happy.
Glenn- Continue to be impressed with level of intensity that Ljunberg has displayed this season. By far the MVP of Seattle.
Look at last 2 games, without Ljunberg vs. Rev’s , Seattle looked clueless. Nobody to quaterback the attack, even with Montero on field .
But vs. Dynamo, the Sounders looked dangerous the entire game.Great work rate for 32 year old.
Did you catch Dave Van Den Bergh goal vs. NYRB?
What a cracker of a shot!
William,
That Dave shot was superb…but am I the only that gets the impression that the defender got a touch on it with his foot, which made it get that curve? Or am I just pessimistic that a goal of that beauty shouldn’t be possible?
This is too tragically, funny. This is from the Yahoo! Sports Soccer Page:
Best Use of a Letter to Express Disgust – Dustin Christmann, fan, FC Dallas
By just about every account, Christmann is the first fan in FC Dallas history. By all accounts, he is a diehard. Even though he has lived 1,000 miles away from Pizza Hut Park since 2007, he had maintained his FCD season tickets. That streak will end in 2010. In a letter sent to HSG head honcho Clark Hunt and posted on 3rddegree.net, Christmann said he would not renew his season tickets to protest the Hunt family’s stewardship of the franchise.
“So after 14 years, no, I am not going to renew,” Christmann said in his concluding paragraph. “I’m not spending as much on season tickets as other people, but it’s my money and I’m not too interested in using it to reward incompetence. Your ownership has been a complete failure, with one notable exception. You have taken a team that had no owner, no money, no prospects for the future, but one with pride and savvy and guile, and turned it into one which will be a joke for many years to come. I’m not sure which is worse.”
1. Dominic really needs to work on taking shots from outside the box. Rico, Holden and Davis have the skills to score from long range.
2. Stability for the back four. Andrew, bobby, geoff and barret (I know he is slower than the rest, but I his experience gives him the edge)
3. Kamara has become more like the #10 he wears. I have not seen the sudden change of speed and explosion from a striker in the last games. He holds, passes back, holds again, passes to the side, but very little forward movement.
4. Landin a good (not great) addition, but he should not start just because he is Landin. (althoug Weaver did) he has to work for it.
I used to think JP Angel was the best DP of the league but after seeing Ljunberg, I have changed my mind…
I was impressed by him. I am glad Montero couldn’t come to Houston to help him…
It was obvious Ljunberg was going to deliver. The boo’s when he came out to me it was more a proof of respect, and “god I’m glad you’re out”. I’m still curious about Weaver, when will he be available again?
I think most DP’s have worked, with the exception of Denilson, Marcelo Gallardo, Claudio Reyna all of the DP’s worked out really well, Beckham didn’t work out but I think what he did on a league wide level was good, he still is the biggest draw for MLS games, all the teams have had their best home games vs LA with Beckham, Claudio Lopez didn’t work out too well in the 1st year, but the fact he stayed and restructured his contract I think speaks volumes to his professionalism and the commitment he has to MLS and the KC Wizards.
JP Angel, Blanco, Emilio, Ljungberg have all done great, GBS even earned his for 2 season and now is among the Bext X11
I think those guys are All-Stars for sure Freddy, Guillermo, Angel and Blanco
I think Landin will do well, Holden has to do better with such good positioned service and that much space!
The goal scored by Seattle was all Barret’s doing. His lack of speed is really showing now. The guy that crossed the ball had an eternity to dribble, set up, and cross the ball that was finished. Barret did not come close to pressuring him. A one legged man could have placed that ball with that much time. Barret saved the goal in the fist half but got smoked about 5 times in the second half. He will be a liability in the playoffs just like last year against NYRB’s, Dane Richards. He needs to play midfield where his speed in recovery may not be as much of a problem.
I love the way the guy plays hard but, when the legs are gone there is nothing you can do. Chabala has the wheels and should get the nod when speed is needed not Waibel. Coach Kinnnear is very loyal to his older players and I respect that but, results are results. I hope Hainault is not passed over for loyalty’s sake.
Landin needs to start. If he is to make an impact, he needs playing time right now. Not having him for Champions League really hurts. He played well enough to get the nod for the next game. He made more of an impact than Ching or Kamara in just 15 minutes. The pass he made to Holden was so sweet and unexpected that Holden reacted late to it and struck it late. Kamara and Ching both have the touch of a mugger when it comes to these types of passes. Holden is not used to this. He will get a lot more chances like this from this guy.
