After SVENENGALI GORAN ERIKSSON fielded four foreign players in last night’s 1-0 loss to SWEDEN we now can officially call CHIVAS the national team of MEXICO. The game’s lone goal was scored by ALEXANDER FARNERUD after a loss of posession from right back JUAN CARLOS VALENZUELA.
Joking aside, Mexico did field four foreign players further heaping more criticism on national team coach ERIKKSSON who says he is only following the rules. When will Mexico and it’s fans get over the naturalised citizen thing?
Three naturalised citizens did start: Argentine born LUCAS AYALA and MATIAS VUOSO as well as Brazilian born LEANDRO AUGUSTO . ZINHA another Brazilian came on as a sub.
AUGUSTO of UNAM PUMAS was a player the Houston Dynamo did not see in Concacaf play due to injury.
So what did you think of this Mexican effort and what do you think of the choices that ERIKSSON has been making?
February 11th looms but I am not reading alot into these two friendly games except for the fact that MEXICO continues to draw amazing crowds while the U.S. National team continues to win games here.
* LAVOLPE RETURNS
Former MEXICO manager RICARDO LA VOLPE has returned to ATLAS as their manager after DARIO FRANCO has stepped down after opening the clausura with two straight losses. LA VOLPE was last at MONTERREY.
* MANCHESTER CITY STAR ROBINHO claims in a telephone call to Brazilian coach DUNGA that an 18 year old woman accusing him of sexual assault is an opportunist.
“I don’t have any reason to doubt ROBINHO’s word,” said DUNGA. “He’s a player I always count on when I needed him.”
The Brazilian Football Federation website has the following quote:
“Robinho told DUNGA that he’s a victim of an opportunist and that he has done everything necessary in the legal sense to clarify the matter, in which he had no participation.”
*In a press conference today at the offices of the HOUSTON DYNAMO the club will introduce 18 year old striker FELIX GARCIA who has played for the U.S. under 20 national team. GARCIA has signed Generation Adidas which means that he will not count against the salary cap.

Ha! Sweden 1 – Mexico 0! Ha! What a true futbol powerhouse.
All around I am dissapointed with the Tri’s performance. The team has a big concern with depth and has not been in sync since LaVolpe’s departure.
With that many Brazilians, let’s start calling them MEXICAO!
An optimist might think Mexicao is just playing possum before the U.S. match but then that optimist would have to face the reality that Mexicao is crap and Sven Goran Eriksson is their manager.
Enter pessimism.
You guy’s are being to harsh on El Tri, this has nothing to do with the players and is solely due to the Voodoo backfiring on them. On a serious note though, using Naturalized players is nothing new as many Countries do the same thing and this has caused for serious soul searching and discussions in most of them as well. Will Mexico become the France of the America’s? Probably not but times are changing indeed.
I am not putting much stock into these two friendlies other than subtle player performances. It all changes on the 11th.
Glenn
I have been contacted by the FMF. If the US destroys Mexico on Feb 11, then Coach H will installed as the new Mexican Boss! Glenn, I will need you, Bora Milotinovic and Tony Waiters to be my staff and we will have to put the pieces back together and get Mexico into the World Cup!
CHIVAS WOULD WIN FEB.11 IF U ADDED PLAYERS LIKE MARQUEZ AND GUARDADO. ITS EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED WHEN MEXICO WAS AT ITS WORST AND AGUIRRE TOOK THE JOB WITH A GAME AGAINST USA COMING ON THE ROAD TO 2002. mEXICO HAD TO WIN AT ALL COST AND AGUIRRE CALLED EVERY MEXICAN FROM CRUZ AZUL WHO HAD JUST FINISHED GETTING TO THE COPA LIBERTADORES FINALS BEATING BOCA AT BOCA BUT LOSING IN PENALTYS. AND MEXICO WON.. SO
Coach H,
are you serious? I thought you were holding out for a top club in Europe? This is quite disappointing that you would lower your standards… unless they offered you an amazing beachfront property in Cancun!
Guardado and Marquez expected to be out Feb. 11 and I think with Bora’s knowledge of Mexico and ability to not communicate with the press combined with Waiters moustache you may have something there.

Friendlies results are worthless. SGE was looking to see who can be a short term fill in for Guardado, back line depth, and if he has any depth at the DM position. He saw glimmers of hope in the first two, but not much else.
I too find it funny that Mexico has a bug up the tochus about naturalized players. If the local players don’t like it, don’t bitch about it — play better. And team front offices should think twice before criticizing since it is theirpreference to field worthless foreigners instead of giving young locals a chance. All SGE sees is an eligible player.
John in Austin, when did you see the defense showing light glimpses of allowing Sven to have depth at the back line, they were sloppy all game, I was looking forward to seeing Edgar Castillo, the US born player out of New Mexico that no one is bitching about cause the Mexican constitution has this stupid law that if the son or daughter of 2 Mexicans is born in ANY part of the world, he is automatically considered a Mexican citizen, this is supposively why Chivas has used players born in the US to Mexican parenst, and players born in South America of the same Mexican parents!
Medina I think is the only hope for Mexico, I am waiting to see who are the forwards, but between the choices I am not too worried. Omar Bravo used to be dangerous but he would have played a full game at best in the last month, by the time the Feb 11th game rolls by. Nery Castillo might be the most talented forward, and Vuoso was looking good, but I don’t know if he has anyone to service him?
Glen, Chivas has some nerve showing off how they are the team of PURE MEXICAN DESCENT? You reported how Jesus Padilla was discovered to have been born in San Jose, California, and one of your readers said indeed others similar to him have played for the Rebano before? I think is ironic how the naturalized players who are legally playing in Mexico and are legally bound by las as well as the constitution to participate in activities like all naturally born Mexican citizens. But here in the US, and I know this a totally different topic, Mexican americans, Mexican immigrants who are residents or have Working or Student visas along with illegal Aliens all complain about the racism they encounter. This applies greatly to the ones criticizing the naturalized players who live in the US. They are subjecting these players to exactly what they deem evil and wrong. They just are too bling to realize it cause it pertains to the most important, and in most cases only sense of pride that they identify with when it comes to feeling well represented as well as proud of Mexico. Its hypocritical if you ask me?
Glenn, I think this game shows alot Glen, who is Sven going to line up next to Pardo? Leandro, he played okay, and we saw we have to be careful on corners and set pieces. Who will play in the wings at midfield? Guardado and Arce are out, so you know he is using someone from this game, I think he will use Medina on the left, and Sinha on the right, as hte team only seemed to work well when Sinha was in, he had a bad game in Honduras but is still playing great for Toluca! Also Carlos Ochoa we saw that inspite of all he talks, he can be dangerous on headers and he tries to draw calls, I hope Carlos Batres has an amzing game and goes back to being the best referee of CONCACAF, don’t say Brian Hall please, other than that I don’t know what to expcect? Villaluz? that guy is a bump away from another concussion!
