UNITED STUNNED IN FINAL MOMENT BY BAYERN
Not only was Manchester United stunned in the final moments of their match in Bavaria against Bayern Munich 2-1, but they also suffered more residual damage with Wayne Rooney going off with an ankle injury. He left the Allianz Arena in a protective cast. According to a report from Sky Sports, Rooney will be out 2-4 weeks and will miss the huge Chelsea clash this weekend and the 2nd leg of the Bayern Champions league match-up.
Rooney is undergoing a scan today to determine the severity of the injury as England and United fans hold their breath. United take on Chelsea this weekend in a huge match at Old Trafford with EPL title implications.
Scoring summary: MAN UTD Rooney-2nd minute
BAYERN Ribery- 76th minute
BAYERN Olic- 90th minute
What about the reaction from Ivica Olic on the game winning goal. Priceless!
CHAMPIONS LEAGUE ON TODAY
Arsenal take on former teammate Thierry Henry and Barcelona at the Emirates (1:30 pm FSC)
Inter Milan take on CSKA Moscow also (4:30 FSC repeat)
Speaking of Inter here is a gem of a quote from the quotable Jose Mourinho.
“I always speak in a very honest way and if I do it about Serie A I will be suspended. My situation is clear. I am very happy at Inter but not in Italian football.”
Chelsea fans get ready for the return of the ’special one’ down the road.
STRAKE JESUIT ROLLS
The theme of undefeated continues with Strake Jesuit College Prepatory coached by Bill McDonald. The Crusaders got a 2-1 win last night against nemesis Katy in High School playoffs to continue their march towards a state title. The squad is still undefeated and ranked nationally.
“It is big for us and a little bit of a revenge factor as they(Katy) knocked us out last year,” said Strake coach Bill McDonald. “To take down the regional champs from last year was a big accomplishment.”
Patrick Wall (Eclipse Soccer Club, Dynamo Academy) who is going on a scholarship to Notre Dame as goalkeeper played for Strake as a field player and scored along with Kyle Ruck (Eclipse) in the 2-1 win.

MIKE CHABALA AND MAICON
If you were to model your game after an attacking outside back you might choose Inter Milan’s and Brazil’s Maicon. The attacking 28 year old outside back is one of the most respected in the world. Dynamo defender Mike Chabala in an interview with me yesterday which will air on Fox Sports Houston conveyed to me that his goal against FC Dallas was Maicon inspired. How you might ask? Chabala watched videos of Maicon on youtube before going out against FC Dallas this past weekend to open the MLS 2010 season.
Chabala scored his first ever professional goal against Dallas in the 1-1 draw.
My assumption is this will become a pre-game ritual for Chabala.

Arsenal is going to have to deal with a gimpy Fabregas or (more likely) no Fabregas at all. Nasri has looked pretty good when asked to play the creative midfielder role in the absence of Cesc so I’m hoping that there’s not a massive dropoff from that position. In terms of the backline there either needs to be another chapter in the incredible Sol Campbell resurgence tonight or Gallas needs to come back in form after his long layoff. Arshavin will also need to be less wasteful in front of the goal than he has been in the last month.
That being said… I see Barcelona picking up an early goal and then dropping back a bit. Arsenal will probably equalize at some point and then Barca will attack towards the end for a 2-1 away victory. I hope I’m wrong.
Glenn… is Lovel Palmer going to be available tomorrow night?
No Lovel due to paperwork is the last that I heard Travis.
With little training with the team, even if he was available knowing following the trends of manager Kinnear I doubt he would start?
Why? Mulrooney was solid vs FC Dallas.
Fabregas is set to start but he will be surely hobbled so Arsenal need an Arshavin sighting tonight or they’re probably doomed. I have a sense that this match will not be short on goals w/a host of marquee offensive players to provide the fireworks, but the final outcome could be determined by the defensive effectiveness of Yaya Toure or Alex Song.
This was going to be a tough match for Arsenal even with a 100% fit Fabregas. Now, relying on Arshavin and others, it will be a trial by fire to see what these kids can really do. Everyone remarks at how the styles are similar (and that’s somewhat true), but the talent disparity makes this look like a Barcelona A vs. Barcelona B.
I think Barca cruises tonight and in the overall tie. Though, it should be an emotional return for Henry to the stadium he helped build. Those were some great Arsenal teams around the turn of the millenium and they don’t get the trophies they got and they don’t get their current stadium without him. He should get a very touching ovation from all in attendance.
I hope TH14 gets an unbelievable ovation from the Emirates crowd after leaving the field having not played in a 2-0 defeat.
Seeing Henry score an important goal against Arsenal would be too much to bear.
