International soccer at the Rob “Orange” style/ Manchester United come from behind over Wolfsburg

twitter.com: Soccermattersgd

It is one of those rare evenings and this night will bring Pachuca of Mexico to face the Dynamo.
I know the 9pm start is a late one but will you be there to see the Dynamo/Pachuca lore continue?

Podcast of Dynamo All Access with Glenn Davis is up at 790thesportsanimal.com

Manchester United had a slow start against a game Wolfsburg from Germany but claimed a 2-1 win behind goals from Ryan Giggs and Michael Carrick.
A couple of thoughts:

* I love Grafite the Brazilian for Wolfsburg, straight ahead , no nonsense he is going forward.

*Don’t let anyone ever tell you that Manchester United has no threat out of central midfield. Michael Carrick is always a threat out of the central midfield area and opponents have to honor that. He scored the game winner today, this is not a stay at home central midfield player, he is a threat with his long range shooting ability and timeliness of the moments that he wants to join in the attack.

*Dimitar Berbatov came on for Michael Owen and is really not a goal scorer at United but a “provider”. He floats and tempts defenders in areas around the box and magically keeps things moving with his mindset. Fantastic soccer player.

Victor Delgadillo was laid to rest today and I only can say the testimony of those who spoke was wonderful. He was a pillar in our soccer community that has touched the lives of many through his passion and vision of soccer. Gracias por todo Victor. If you did not know about him please take the time to learn something about him as he was a true pioneer of the game in this community.
SOCCER MATTERS with Glenn Davis presented by MEMORIAL HERMANN SPORTS MEDICINE INSTITUTE will do a tribute to Victor on the show this week on Fox Sports Houston Thursday at 5pm and Friday at 3pm.
Friday is Dynamo All Access with Glenn Davis the tv show on KHOU 11.2….check out your local programming or tape it!

  1. Garret says:

Who is scheduling these 9pm starts? Is it UH? FSC? Concacaf? Dynamo?

  2. MoisesV says:

Concacaf is bro…if you see all the other games on TV they’re on at the same times but on different days…

7 and 9 pm Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and I believe Thursdays…

    On to the game tonite…:

Im ready to go..!!! come on Dynamo… we need a win!!!…

  3. Donjuego says:

I would never miss the rare and important games of CCL. This is the best soccer of the year one can attend.

  4. Nord says:

International nights at the Rob – who could miss it? They could start this game at midnight, and all that would mean is two extra hours of tailgaiting on top of the two extra we get tonight!

Ching is fully rested, newly paid, and ready to roll Kamehameha over los pinches Tuzos!

Beware the Jumpsuit! Nothing rhymes with Orange!

  5. The Sarge says:

We will be there tonight. No way we are going to miss out on a game this year. Thanks to my buddy Kirk for the tickets he passed our way for this game.

  6. Erin says:

Pretty sure the 9pm start is due to UH. Robertson’s parking is used for student parking during the day. They have to wait for students to clear out of the parking lots before opening it up for games. Another reason why we need our own stadium.

I will be there tonight! Let’s go Dynamo!

  7. Leo says:

As was mentioned earlier…Concacaf schedules this…um, all i have to say is this game is going to rock, and sadly my friend ditched me due to work so i’m going to have to fly solo other than that…I AM PUMPED!!!!!!! The question shouldn’t be are you going to be there…it should be more like, why aren’t you there right now tailgating…

This is one of those moments when I am going to Robertson in hopes of a Dynamo loss, I feel guilty but I will make up for it during Kansas and LAG.

    ARRIBA TUZOS!!!!!!!!!!!

  8. Erin says:

I understand that CONCACAF does the scheduling. But they can’t schedule the game for earlier if the facilities aren’t available.

  9. Leo says:

    Erin,

True and maybe if Houston Dynamo had their own Stadium; we would be able to have early games…considering today my last class ends at 8pm I have just enough time to hustle to Robertson and check in…not that I wouldn’t miss class for Futbol :D

  10. Trey says:

Vamos Dynamo!!! I’ve been looking forward to this match since CL schedule announced. 9 pm start gives me plenty of time to finish up at the office, completely miss rush hour traffic, grab a bite of sushi, put on my Forever Orange gear, and get to the stadium early for pre game warm ups and chat with fellow Dynamo fans. Great weather tonight as well. It’s ALL Good.

  11. Kirk says:

No problem Sarge, bring home a winner.
Unfortunately I’m out of town – I’ll be watching on FSCand there in spirit.

  12. Leo says:

two hours and a half til kick-off!!!!!!!!!!!

  13. Ramiro says:

ITS RAINING CATS AND DOGS!!! …but in mexico city at the Pumas UNAM v W Connection game… Dynamo win tonite! im pumped…and sleepy but as lil MJ says…ill be there. :) i got a Red Bull and a Monster in the ‘fridge for tomorrow morning…

  14. Leo says:

TUZOS!!!!!!!!!!! TUZOS!!!!! OLE OLE OLE OLE TUZOS!!!!!! TUZOS!!!!!!!!

Pachuca won…I got beer thrown at me by my fellow Dynamo fans (remember I’m a season ticket holder for 2010 and go to um…60-75% of all games)…but in the end Mis Tuzos somehow got lucky and made it through that bombardment that was Dynamo…now Glenn remember what I said about the Pachuca coach…? No Damian Alvarez, Chaco came in late, didn’t start Correa…Oh did I mention that he never subbed out Benitez even though it was just announced that he left injured from defending?! Remember that take-down by Onstad’s left that y’all probably thought was a dive by a Tuzo…turns out he pulled something. One more sad note, was it just me or did I see a defensive Pachuca?! Since when is Pachuca defensive?!?!?!?!?!
Now ironically Dynamo requires Pachuca’s help in order to qualify for the second round and a win in El Salvador…

  15. Leo says:

Probably gonna repost this later on next blog entry by GD…

Pachuca’s coach seems to be doing some good drugs. He didn’t start Chaco, Damian Alvarez, Correa, or Gringo Torres. I’m not saying Gabby Caballero is bad as a starter; he’s great even at his age but he is more effective now as a sub. Both Pachuca and Dynamo had great shots on goal with the edge going to Dynamo. Dynamo however suffers from one thing and that is definition…how could they not score on some of those Calero mess-ups? Houston Dynamo probably did not deserve the loss, but it sure did not deserve the win. The defense was great but where was the mid? Where were the strikers? Holden made some great passes and as much as I want him to stay here in Houston; his talent is going to waste and can form into an even better player in Europe. Now not that I needed anymore proof that Pachuca’s coach is horrid but why start Pajaro Benitez? It would have been way better to bring in Chaco, then take out Chaco and put in Damian Alvarez…and sub in Pajaro for Ulises Mendivil. Now, like I said I’ve been a Pachuca fan for 13 years…and all I have to say is I don’t remember seeing Pachuca play a game this defensive since Pre-Sudamericana maybe around 2004…Pachuca and defensive game-play should not be mentioned together and this coach is really messing it up. Here are my ratings for Pachuca, maybe somebody out there can rate Dynamo.

    Ratings are out of 10

    Pachuca

    Starting 11
Calero:(4.5) Looked horrid, foolish yellow, didn’t portray confidence and got lucky
Mustafa:(5) Slow, missed easy header gave Ching and other forwards space
Raul Martinez:(4) Paul Aguilar was missed, needs experience
Montes:(5.5) What happened to those deadly crosses and shots from distance?
Lopez:(6) Missing rhythm, only 2nd game after missing 6 months, gleams of past
Manso:(6) Great sight, accurate passes, alright game.
Rojas:(6.5) What an assist! Great crosses and nice speed easily best player.
Caballero:(6) Always solid and dependable. Few mistakes but small field didn’t help
Rodriguez:(5) Where is that player that deserved a call to El Tri? Probably home.
Mendivil:(4) This WAS his tourney. However, better defender than striker in this game.
Benitez:(6.25) Thanks for the goal but Rojas did most of the work; nice definition.

    Subs
Correa:(6) Why hasn’t he been called up by Aguirre for El Tri?
Chaco:(5) Should have been starter. Didn’t score when he had a great shot. Most fault for this score goes to coach.
Gringo Torres:(6.5) Second best player on the field. Added discipline. Bradley this is your STARTER!!!!

Ironically now Dynamo need a little help from Pachuca in order to qualify for the second round.
