I say bring on the Champions League……

Some of my most memorable Dynamo games are against foreign competition. I love when the Dynamo measure themselves against clubs from Mexico and Central America.
I am waiting for the day that they get one of this high profile exhibition games against Barcelona, Real Madrid or the likes of Chelsea. They have earned that through performance on the field and players have confided in me that they would love the opportunity. Who wouldn’t ?
With that the Dynamo Concacaf Champions League schedule was released today and the quest to go to the World Club Championships starts next Wednesday with the Dynamo and Pachuca of Mexico favored to advance out of their group. Here is the Dynamo schedule:

8/19/09 vs. Isidro Metapan of El Salvador 7pm Robertson Stadium
8/26/ at Arabe Unido of Panama 7pm
9/16 at Pachuca 9pm
9/22 vs. Arabe Unido of Panama 7pm Robertson Stadium
9/30/ vs. Pachuca 9pm Robertson Stadium
10/21 at Isidro Metapan 9pm

I love international games, I watch UEFA Champions League, Copa Libertadores and CONCACAF Champions League, I try to go to as many Dynamo CCL games as I can, but friendly games just don´t do it for me.

A friendly is just a friendly, you don´t really win, earn or prove anything, I never see friendly games on TV and I don´t attend them either, maybe if Barcelona or Real Madrid (Manchester United only plays in Asia for now)plays the Dynamo, just maybe I will think about it, and if I attend, I will attend knowing that I will see lots of bench players (and even a couple of youngsters from the reserves) from any of the big teams, I will attend knowing that maybe they will have 8 or 9 substitutions during the game.

Maybe tjust to see a few local players against big time players, maybe the fact that I have seen big teams in person makes a friendly game not that appealing, but I just can´t compare a friendly no matter how good the other team is, against a real international competition, I donpt care if you are playing against Joe Public, playing JP for real and winning, means more than playing a pre-season Barcelona, that is why winning the CCL is so important, THEN you get a chance to play against a big team for real, winning would then mean something.

Glenn is it possible to take in a flag with a pole? I’m planning on going to the Pachuca game and was wondering

I wish Canetti wouldn’t have arranged the exhibition game w/ a Mexican team to-be-named later in his latest blog. Why not let the guys reset? Next month is going to be brutal on them.

I would not miss a chance to see Ronaldo, Kaka or Messi play in Houston against the Dynamo. It might have been preseason for Real Madrid and FC Barcelona, but they romped over MLS competition. Seattle, DC United and Toronto FC got spanked. Beckham’s goal was a rocket shot but the Galaxy really never tested Barca. The Dynamo certainly deserves a game against a high profile team. Success in Concacaf Champions League might speed the process.

I agree 100%. CONCACAF Champions League games are a must watch for me. I watch all sports and soccer is the only one where you get to match-up with teams from other nations and thats why i love it. Its fun and a change of pace.

I thoroughly enjoyed watching Barcelona against Seattle and I wondered why the Dynamo could not get in on the action against them or Real Madrid (assuming an air-conditioned Reliant Stadium was available). The second string for FC Barcelona is still mighty impressive.

  7. Coach H says:

I thought you meant the real Champions League, which has already started, and continues Tuesday with Arsenal taking on Celtic. I would love to see the Bhoys dispatch of the Arsenologists!

Of course, all of this won’t matter because Chelsea 1-0 will be the team to beat this year.

  8. glenndavis says:

    Coach H,
It is the REAL champions league to the Dynamo and the other 15 teams in Concacaf competing. I did hear a rumor that you grew up in the shadows of Stamford Bridge?

    Glenn
