If the Galaxy win you can be assured the image of David Beckham holding up the MLS Cup will make it around the world. Not so much if Real Salt Lake win…..Will Kyle Beckermann holding up the MLS Cup get that sort of run? Besides to the general sports media what is a REAL Salt Lake?

As much as some of us hate to admit it, an LA win would be good for MLS.
i don’t know how anyone who is a Dynamo supporter could root for AEG’s prima donas. Beside the fact that they are only in the game because Hainault’s game winning goal was taken off the board due to a questionable call in the box, RSL is an underdog team who have been given little to no chance by most and Jason Kreis’s success taking over a bottom feeding team get almost as much recognition as the team’s chances. A cup for Clint Mathis in possibly his last game s another reason NOT to root for Becky and the media darlings. How many reasons did you want?
Why would an LA win be better for the MLS? Money wise I’m sure, but about running a fair league I don’t think so. I think for real soccer fans a RSL win would be a lot more exciting, because we’re sick and tired of the biased media hype and referees.
Bart-1, I think the point is that for the sake of the league and for world wide exposure and for the good of US soccer it would be good for the Galaxy to win. Correct me if I’m wrong Glenn & Marco?
I feel for you men, where I was sitting, 2nd row 1 and a half sections to the right of midfield from the TV vantage point and obviously away from the goal where the corner took place, I think it was not a foul, looked like incedental play to me?
But you’re just being a bitter fan if that’s the reason why you’re rooting for RSL? LA hasn’t really had a rivalry with Houston since we haven’t made the playoffs the 1st 3 years of Houston’s existance, but dating back the squad that won those 2 championships in Houston are the same guys that faced each other in 2001 in Columbus when DeRo won the Cup wih a magical strike from about 18! There was a cool game at the beginning of the year last year 2-2 and I remember Donovan talking samck to whomever was on the ground when he beat him on a diving header off a Beckham cross, and there was the 3-0 loss that eliminated LA at the end of last year when Beckham didn’t go since he got carded the game before or something and then there was the close LA win in Houston in 2007 when Beck’s was out but the Galaxy was trying to qualify to the playoffs and almost made it but came short on the NY game and the Chicago game.
So I don’t see how you feel this way, I really wanted Philly to lose after they defeated my Dodgers and have always rooted against the Spurs and Pistons since they beat us in the Western Conference finals twice for SA and in the Finals in 04 vs Detroit, but I don’t see how rooting for Real Salt Lake because they haven’t gotten any credit is a good reason to root for them if you’re a Dynamo fan?
Where you rooting for Red Bull last year?
I’m sure you weren’t yet they were in exactly the same position as Real Salt Lake only difference was that NYRB were on the west from the east and RSL are in the east from the west.
RSL was very very inconsistant last year and one of our few fluke games at Home Depot was vs RSL, we lost 2-0 but other than that RSL had I think 1 other win, we had one of the best road records, once we got it together and got reinforced with Landon back from the Confeds and Beckham and Buddle and Alecko attacking LA started being consistantly strong only game where they broke down was at home vs the hottest team in the last 3 months in FC Dallas, Seattle we lost but it was not a very clear dominance of the Sounders, more of a pair of mental lapses on defense.
LA was technically the 2nd best team in MLS, once Columbus went out in the 1st round they were the best team, Houston being the next closest thing who finished the year with a very long stretch of loses and red cards and then got eliminated from CCL only to somewhat recover with a win @ Chivas USA and then the OT goal after 180+ minutes of a scoreless draw vs Seattle.
So there are those not enough reasons to consider Real Salt Lake an underdog?
I have read ESPN, goal.com and Yahoo’s columns they all say it will be a tight game with the 2nd best defense and the 2nd best offense, the Galaxy’s experience coach and overall individual talent is the only reason why most analysts give LA the edge, but McCarthy from goal.com for example has the game going to RSL 1-0!
It will be another game in which the speed will be dangerous vs Gonzalez/Berhalter combo, but I keep thinking with Dema Kovalenko healthy and doing the work of a destroyer all over the midfield, and then Sean Franklin & AJ De La Garza on the wings with plenty of speed I think it will be a tight game in which execution and errors will be the key, I doubt the speed vs lack of will matter, set pieces might come into effect, RSL touch the ball well but their defense is not that great Wingert will have a field day if Beckham goes wide and Birchall has proven he can do some damage with his speed and long range shots, his replacement the last 2 games Chris Klein is having a bit of blast from the past resurgance too so I agree it will be a tight game, I’m going with LA 2-1
Rimando is good for PK’s but so is Ricketts and Ricketts is better in the game stopping regular shots, Rimando isn’t as consistant because his defense leaves too many gaps!
I think Kreis is up to something good, he needs to bolster the defense, but past that he can keep this squad intact and make another run, I actually remember some people picking RSL to beat out Houston for the West title at the beginning of trainning camps, Houston and Real Salt Lake were pretty much favorites, Seattle was thought of to be a possible contender and everyone thought Chivas would crash once again!
Watch out for New England with a boost from healthy Chris Albright, Taylor Twellman and whoever else got injured plus Steve Nicol is a genious at drafting so he’ll pick up more great rookies and his choices were full of upside this year!
Toronto could be very good too with Preki at the helm, they will tighten up on defense and De Guzman, Dero and Amado Guevara I think he’ll find a way to play with a lonely striker and with Dero as the withdrawn forward and the other 2 on the wings, needs a true center defensive mid but watch out for Toronto, and they are getting grass too!
1st game at the new natural grass pitch is vs the new expansion team of Philly!
Everyone loves JKreis now that they are in the final but rumors abounded that he was going to be fired. The real question is ….do we judge coaches on entire body of work or playoffs?
Is that a good enough year from RSL, did they improve on last year…some will say yes as they have gotten to a final.
They fired NYRB’s Osorio for what it’s worth
Edwin, I read Dutch newspapers online daily. There is never any mentioning about the MLS. If the name Beckham is in an article it is usually about his wife. Last one I read about Mr Beckham invlolved his crazy haircut. I’m not making this up.
What did get world wide attention (or dutch newspaper attention) was the performance of the American national men’s team during the Gold cup last July.
yossarin, well RSL had their revival season last year and they were eliminated by NY, the Red Bulls couldn’t win to save their lives not even by concentrating fully on CCL could they stay alive, but RSL was actually picked to be in the top 2 or 3 in the West and despite not being there made the playoffs with a bunch of help and by taking the Rocky Mountain Cup and now made it to the final, no way Kreis should be fired, they need to bolster their defense and maybe get someone to step in for Mathis who had a somewhat of a role player job, Nabavoy cold do that or maybe they could bring someone else but the fact is they will be a force to be reckoned with, I hope Preki can do the same with Toronto and hopefully if they win the Canadian championship and qualify for the Concacaf Champions League again they’ll beat whatever small caribean or Central American team they are matched up with no reason why an MLS side should get eliminated by the likes of Arabe Unido, Puerto Rico Islanders, W Connection, and Marathon or whoever else eliminated DC united along with Toluca.
Ria, I’m sure not every country in the world will be on the edge of their seat as far as media goes but Beckham winning will get around in many places!
Funny that you read about Beck’s haircut though pretty funny, I have no idea why he just doesn’t fade the back evenly?
Edwin, to read the constant media coverage of the Galaxy and their TWO DP’s when the Dynamo have had one (sucky) DP for 1/3rd of this season. AEG’s relocation of the team to Houston has been a 4 year soap opera with regard to having our own stadium We will likely lose both Holden and Clark after losing another International DeRo because of our refusal to pay them what they are worth, but had NO problem paying Donovan and Beckham. Should Moralers and Williams outplay their million dollar babies at MF or Findley or Mathis score the game winner, I will shed no tears for LA. Should the refs give the game to LA I will be truly bitter.
no way.
an la win will be tellng everybody that money will buy any championship, scheduling and referees. I just wonder if seattle had beaten us like MLS wanted to happen, how were they going to screw them tonight to hand the trophy over to beckham?
the game’s on right now and i am watching a re-run of die hard on fox
dont you think it would be better looking if RSL beats LA? if LA wins, it will be “big deal, they won because they have Beckham. but if RSL beats LA it would be “LA, with Beckham and all, couldnt beat an underdog RSL? they must be very competitive over there”… anyone else see my point?

All I know is that this is a really good episode of Family Guy and American Dad on tonight, and I am glad I am not watching that crap in Seattle, but let me guess what is happening? LA is winning and getting the majority of the calls? I knew it!
Oh yeah, and JP and John Harkes are having tingling sensations in their pants too watching the “Greatness of Beckham and Landon!”
In listening to the final so far I’m not surprised. Let’s see how many excuses have already passed the lips of the announcers regarding the God, Beckham. Is it the ankle, the turf or the weather. Please! Couldn’t be the player, could it.
Donovan has turned into quite the flopper and Beckham seems to be a cry baby.
Not quite the calibar I would hope the MLS wants.
REAL SALT LAKE!!!!!!!REAL SALT LAKE!!!!!!!REAL SALT LAKE!!!!!!!REAL SALT LAKE!!!!!!!REAL SALT LAKE!!!!!!!REAL SALT LAKE!!!!!!!REAL SALT LAKE!!!!!!!REAL SALT LAKE!!!!!!!REAL SALT LAKE!!!!!!!
As a Dynamo fan that is all that runs through my head during this game!
Great goalkeeping by Salt Lake, AGAIN!!!!! Donovan missing that penalty was the highlight of the game! Good game Real Salt Lake!!!! THANK YOU FOR NOT LETTING PRIMADONA OR THE LA GALS WIN!!!!!!!!! REAL SALT LAKE ARE THE CHAMPIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!
TAKE THAT BECKHAM AND DONOVAN!!! TAKE THAT LA GALS FOR CHEATING THE DYNAMO!!!! CONGRATS REAL SALT LAKE ON YOUR FIRST CHAMPIONSHIP!!!!!!!!
Leo, don’t do that man, you’re a Tuzo, raised a true fighter and winner, I know you’re happy not to see my Galaxy win but to say take that LA is really cheap, is what I use to hear from Rocket fans everytime somone else would beat the Lakers, easy response is so you have to cheer for someone else to get some satisfaction out of winning?
So are all you conspiracy theory crybabies happy now?
Coach H, what happened to your 3rd person talk, you finally realized how it made you look?
So if you’re watching Fox’s animation domination how can you tell the ref was favoring LA?
Congrats to RSL, I hope they sell out (90% or more) all of their games next season now that they gave their fans a championship!
I guess this means MLS is going to hell in a hand basket now that LA has lost. I guess we better get ready to start supporting the USL!
Beckham and Donovan were no where to be found tonight!! The galaxy were running outof gas toward the end of regulation and over time. I had a feeling that RSL would win, and they made it.
Beckham back to Manchester
Great news that David Beckham is going back to Manchester United to play against his old club. Personally, I can’t wait to see Becks on the field in an AC Milan shirt scoring a goal against Fergie’s team. Some of the online sports sites listed at Dozensports.com say that if Becks plays he will be booed by some, but I think he is still one of the best players England has ever produced.
