Houston Area players in MLS Combine/ Shame on you UT, Texas AM, UH, and Rice

Michael Sambursky ( Cypress Springs, Hurricanes Soccer Club), Jerson Monteiro (Robert E. Lee, Houstonians soccer club), Dane Richards (San Jacinto College) all have been selected to participate in the MLS Adidas Player combine in January 5-8 at Lockhart Stadium in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.
Again it reminds us that great soccer talent heads out of Texas and the Houston area every year.
How lazy is it that international institutions like UT, Texas AM, UH, and Rice University do not have mens division 1 soccer. Why must all the talented male youth players have to leave this state to pursue soccer and an education?
It is just lazy. One division one soccer program in all of Texas it really makes you wonder in University regents have their eyes open.

Glenn to think that schools in texas would give up some of there scholarships for socer is crazy. It makes no sense to me why every player on the football team needs to be on scholarship but thats texas. The thought being is that football brings in money while soccer and other non major sports do not.Accualy basketball and football brings in money to support the other sports on campus. There is no rating in showing mens soccer and untillthat happens then you will not have a mens soccer program. It goes back to title 9 as women are to get a number of scholorships. Untill we have a equal playing field for men and women then you will not get a mens soccer team unless your talking about club. ALso as was told to me it takes years to get a new program started. It was 10 years inthe making for the womns program over at u of h.

I am in standing in line right behind you concerning NCAA soccer in Texas. I tend to keep up with NCAA and MLS all season long and had a quick question for you. I have been hearing good things about Mike Sambursky from Houston and notice he played for the Hurricanes Soccer Club and was wondering if you used to be one of his trainers?

In regard to the comment that every player on the football team has a scholarship, that is not true at all. That is not true at any of the D1 schools. Now, I do agree that it is a shame that there isn’t men’s soccer at the “top” schools. How can you be a top school and not have the world’s sport? At U of H, I believe there would be a huge following of soccer, but it may never happen. Title IX brought some equality, but it screwed many great players over.

    Jason,
Mike was in the Hurricanes Soccer Club as was his brother Chris, he will play in the December 21 Cancer Awareness game. This city continues to provide colleges around the country with talent.
International institutions without the international game……Glenn
