EPL fans this was the game of the year between Manchester United and Manchester City!!!!

This one had it all and all I can say is I hope you were able to watch it!
The Manchester Derby (152nd meeting) between United and City was scintillating!
From a stunning start through an early Wayne Rooney goal, to Carlos Tevez returning to Old Trafford, goals of quality, monster mistakes, roller coaster lead changes not to mention stoppage time heroics. This one had it all!!
Craig Bellamy scored twice for City while Darren Fletcher hit two in the air for United but just when all seemed to be settled with a share of the spoils, Manchester City fell asleep and the wonderful Ryan Giggs played in Michael Owen who became an instant United legend getting the game winner.
Mark Hughes a former United player and manager of City was begging for the game to end at 3-3 and was vehement that too much additional stoppage time was added.

  1. Kirk says:

Does that mean that from 7-9, ahead of the Arabe Unido game, tomorrow night that we will get Dynamo all access. Followed by 2 hours of match broadcasting, followed by post game ?

Tell me it’s true nearly 5 consecutive hours of radio programming for soccer ………. I wish I could be there live, but rest assured I’ll be listening and watching.

Great game!!! Best game of the year. Love to see more rivalries and close games being established in the EPL. I don’t get Setanta but AT&T Uverse had it for free this weekend and what a weekend to get it.

  3. Coach H says:

And to top it off, instead of being pleased with a win, Alex Ferguson says that the score could have been 7-0. I doubt United was 7 goals better than City, but that is the kind of class you can expect from someone like Fergie. Just be greatful that the referee can’t tell the difference between 4 and 6 minutes and that Micah Richards forgot that defending is important.

The game was amazing and special thanks for ATT U-Verse for giving us the free Setanta weekend. Craig Bellamy is proving that he is a big time player and it will be tough for him to be taken off the field. What a world class strike he hit! Reminded me of the shot Brad Davis hit the night before.

Chelsea is still top the table and thoroughly demolished Tottenham yesterday. Like I have said before, when Didier Drogba is on, he is the best striker in the world. I heard the injury is not serious and we should expect him back next weekend, but don’t be surprised if he is rested for the Liverpool game on October 4!

    Up the Blues

  4. Wow. I just got through finally watching this game and I am stunned. What an amazing game.

Pity it had to end with controversy over the added time. I have to think that if this was on the other side of Manchester, the clock would have shown 3 equaling 4 and not 4 equaling 6.

(Coach H, maybe you can get your Lamar math department to teach these guys some basics.)

Still, as a neutral, it just adds to the story for me. My fave non-goal thoughts on it concern the footwork showed by Ryan Giggs. If the old guy keeps that up all year, he’ll justify that award he won last spring. (Admittedly, a big if. Still.)

And I’d like to echo Kirk’s question as well. I would lvoe to be listening to All Access on my way to Dynamo, er, Robertson Stadium.

  5. Nord says:

Gotta say thanks to Comcast for not having the Setanta option so as to allow us plebes even the opportunity to watch the free preview weekend.

So it’s the game of the year most of us won’t get to see.

Love Craig Bellamy. Long live the Painted Welshman.

And as for the stoppage time controversy, I think it has been pretty well accounted for – 1 min for Bellamy’s goal at 89′, 30 seconds for the sub in stoppage time; therefore, 1:30 extra added to the four. Owen scores at 5:27 in. Of course, that’s just what I’m told, because I didn’t get to see it. And won’t. See above.

And as for the virus that justin.tv gave me yesterday a week before trial – I’m rather reluctant to go back for more.

After the travesty that happened last month, I hope we send Arabe back to Panama in a body bag. “I got your isthmus right here, putos.”

  6. wren says:

Hughesie might feel hard done but you can be sure he gave Micah Richards the hair dryer for ball watching in the last 10 seconds of that match. I’m sure Hughes will point out that midfielder Shaun Wright-Phillips tracked all the way back to Richard’s position and was the closest defender to Owen, while Micah stood clueless near the top of the box.

After United’s unfathomable string of injury time winners last year, Mark Hughes and Man City should know to play until the final whistle.
