England thrash Bulgaria while Wondoloski and Alvarez relish Sunday match with Dynamo

Jermaine Defoe of England netted a hat-trick as the “Three Lions” roared against Bulgaria 4-0 at Wembley in Euro 2012 qualifying. His first goal came in the opening minutes set up by Theo Walcott. England will play Switzerland on Tuesday. Meanwhile not much good happening for France and manager Laurent Blanc who were beaten by Belarus.

THOUGHTS FROM WONDO AND ARTURO
They both have ties to Houston. Chris Wondoloski is a former Dynamo striker who was traded to San Jose for current striker Cam Weaver. Wondoloski has eight goals to lead the Quakes and the opportunistic striker is a sure bet to be in the Quakes starting lineup. Weaver could get a start up front for the Dynamo.
Arturo Alvarez is expected to play for El Salvador against Guatemala in DC but first he will take the field for San Jose Sunday against the Dynamo. It is still unclear if Alvarez will be called in earlier to the El Salvador camp. I spoke with both:

GD: I am sure you would love to come back to Houston and beat the Dynamo ?

CWondo: I would be lying if I said I didn’t have extra motivation. I would love to get a win in Houston, I would love to beat them!
AAlvarez: It is always good to come home to play in front of family and friends. It will be a battle.

GD: Chris, tell me what it will take for you to be successful against the Dynamo backs?

CWondo: I need to be opportunistic Sunday. Every Dynamo team battles, it will be physical and it may not be the prettiest.

GD: Tell me about your new DP Geovanni?

CWondo: We are still trying to find our indentity. He will give us more possession. Geovanni is a game changer, his vision is something else. He is still quick, when he gets fit he will be a real component.
AAlvarez: He is adapting to MLS and is looking sharp. I’m looking forward to combining with him. He holds the ball well, brings vision and goal scoring instinct.

DYNAMO NOTES
The Dynamo training session today was lively based on the “cold front” that came through Houston. Manager Dominic Kinnear had the team play a little more than usual and it was spirited with Kinnear and assistant Steve Ralston both joining in. Cam Weaver looked especially aggressive attacking balls and could be motivated against his former team.
Brian Ching sat alot of the session out and came off in the last game with a calf problem against Colorado.
With the UH Cougar Football team playing Saturday night at Robertson, one should expect the field to be in less than great condition on Sunday night .

NOTES ON SAN JOSE DP GEOVANI
Brazilian Geovani last played at Hull in the EPL appearing 60 times with 11 goals. He is not currently fully fit and has minutes off the bench in their last two games.
He also played at Barcelona for a season before being loaned to Benfica in Portugal who eventually signed him.
