Hope we are healed up because it is a quick turnaround and will be very difficult to play there in Seattle.

I think it will be a great series. My prediction 1-1 tie in Seattle, 2-1 Houston in Houston.

  3. Leo says:

    Sorry I meant

    Fire v. Crew

    Fire wins…oops :D

  4. Edwin says:

Leo, sorry to dissappoint you man, but with Chivas only scoring forward Lillingston, suspended for the 1st leg “Away” at Chivas and LA Galaxy buying more tickets and out numbering and much more rowdy than Goat fans we’re going to make Birria out of Kljestan, Padilla, Nagamura, Galindo, Santos and Bornstein!

I think the Crew have an easy way to the Cup, New England won’t last too long and Real Salt Lake should give Columbus a challenge but they can’t win on the road to save their lives!

Fire are just too thin and I have no idea what happened to them, they can’t find a way to put Papa, Rolfe, McBride and Blanco on at the same time, I think they should just give up that 2nd center defensive mid spot and play with Logan Pause as the lone defensive mid, Papa on the left, Nyarko on the right and Blanco in the middle as the offensive threat, both Papa and Nyarko can run up and down enough for them to help on defense, but the Fire coach doesn’t see it or they can play with just McBride up top and have Rolfe come off the bench and still play with 2 defensive mids and Blanco in front of them free to roam in order to feed McBride, Nyarko and Papa or set himself up.

Chicago doesn’t look very strong at all, compared to Columbus, and the funny thing is if RSL won the 1st round, Fire are horrible at home and RSL are bad on the road so it’s a crap shoot!

Leo, how are the Tuzo’s as far as making the Mexican playoffs? Is it the top 2 from each group that make it?

  5. Marco says:

Could Seattle have gotten any more help with the scheduling?

  6. R.lee says:

HEY!!!! What is up with Dynamo having to play first after all the games they just played and the travel included?? Is this a conspiracy or are the MLS schedulers just clueless??? What possible reason is there for Houston to play the FIRST game? I swear that it seems more and more like the MLS is purposely putting roadblocks in the way of the teams that were good enough to make the international tourneys and have USMNT call ups. It just does not seem coincidental anymore. Answers anyone? I am getting resentful and suspicious of the powers that be at MLS. They sure seem to be trying hard to make it harder for the Dynamo and some of the other teams ( but THEY did not “get” the THURSDAY play off slot!).

  7. cj says:

R.lee it has always been this way with the Dynamo and they still seem to win. This has happened ever since the Dynamo came to Houston.

The veteran players are used to it so no worries. They will still overcome the league being against them.

  8. cj says:

Now seeing the players that Dominic played in the Arabe Unido game show Dominic knows what he was doing. Think about if we would have had a lot more starters in this game and how tired guys would have been for Thursday’s game? The Champions League is going to be treated more as a joke for MLS teams if they decide to schedule games that close to the playoffs. Every MLS coach knows that the regular season is just “jockeying” for the playoffs. I know MLS wants to showcase Seattle and the stadium on a prime time game on ESPN but it isn’t fair to the Dynamo. It will be a very interesting game on Thursday. See Dom’s quote below:

    http://blogs.chron.com/soccer/archives/2009/10/mls_playoff_pic.html

Interesting quote from Dynamo coach Dominic Kinnear complained about MLS’ decision to make the Dynamo begin their playoff run Thursday:

I’m not worried about their fitness. I’m worried about how many games we’ve played. We play on Thursday and the league didn’t take into account that we played on Wednesday in CONCACAF and I think that’s unfair.

Hence why the Dynamo are staying in Southern California, to avoid more travel and try to rest as much as possible.

  9. The Sarge says:

Now is the time for the Orange Crush to show the Sounders that we do have what it takes to beat them. Have to go with a 1 all tie in Seattle with a 3 to 1 win in Houston. But if we win 1 to 0 in Seattle then I will go with a 2 to 1 in Houston for the mighty Orange to advance. Also got to agree with the previous post about the Thursday Night game that MLS does seem to stack the cards against the Orange. Or it could just be that due to the NFL & college games that this is how it had to work out. Just give us the stadium already so we do not have to worry about U of H or NFL.

  10. Nord says:

I don’t want to hear any more talk of conspiracies. Qwest is booked for a throwball match on Saturday, which means football lines.

I would rather take it to these chavalas on four days rest on a real (albeit fake) pitch than have to suffer the indignity that was RBNY v. TFC yesterday (or our first round away leg last year).

Plus, we don’t need rest. There is time enough for sleep in the grave. All the red cards were but subterfuge.

  11. Christopher says:

As much as I’d like to see the Orange win, a lifeless season of apathy and ambivalence isn’t going to be turned around by a 3-2 win over Chivas. Oduro had 25+ chances over the season, the fact that he’s made 3 or so recently doesn’t mean he’s turned the corner.

Seattle has won 2 of 3 meetings this year, with one tie. The Dynamo still haven’t figured out F. Lundjberg, and will end up losing by 2+ in Seattle and a tie or a loss upon their return. Seattle has the hunger the Dynamo once had. But sadly mi amigos, the hunger is gone.

  12. Ria says:

So Christopher, do you think the top three teams in the western conference all had a “lifeless season of apathy” since they’re all in the play-offs with the same numbers of points?

  13. J_C says:

    Well I have mixed feelings…
    good:
    oduro scored
    no red cards
    we won
    bad:
    Seattle = phantom goals
how badly injured are rico, cam, landin and corey?
the team looked tired and with no motivation

I don’t know guys, sorry to be the party crasher but please give me hope, give me reasons to believe!

  14. Tone_Ebologna says:

Pretty sure the Thursday game is due to other football games on the weekend… but when you think about it from a ticket sells standpoint, Seattle is the only for sure sellout no matter where you put the game. So… Seattle gets the thursday night game and sells out their first playoff game. I don’t believe that it was a conspiracy theory… too hard to believe that when we have already won two titles.

  15. R.lee says:

I know, I know, everyone! There PROBABLY is NO conspiracy but my frustration is showing! It just seems that there COULD be more consideration to non-MLS games, international callups and all that extra wear and tear they create instead of TV ratings, etc. I know now that is naive of me . I STILL have great hope for the Dynamo and will cheer them on. It is uphill and that can really motivate the guys. I would LOVE to beat the Seattle team, both games and ESPECIALLY there, on TV! I know the men in orange will play their hearts out and play tough. Hopefully “play smart” will be in the mix also. Not so certain of the reffing though. We shall see……

  16. These are all serious concerns, and scheduling issues like this NEED to be brought up by the MLSPA in the collective bargaining that is ongoing.

As for right now, though, the schedule is what it is. At least we get the home leg is 10 whole days after this one for rest and recuperation. If Dynamo come home with a tie from Thursday or even down a goal, let’s all keep cool. Remember, Dynamo was down a goal to Chivas in 2006 and Frisco in 2007 (actually two after Ruiz’ strike in the first half here and who could forget THAT game?). This is not a team that folds under pressure.

Of more concern is the injury situation. What is the status of Clark, Ashe, Weaver and Landin? Those guys, especially a defensive mid the quality of Rico, will be crucial.

I will be man enough to say that I have dumped on Dominic Oduro often, but am now quick to admit that his finish through Thornton’s legs was a thing of beauty. However, I have not become a believer just yet. I would still right now rather have Weaver and Landin in there. However, the book on Oduro has always been that if he could ever figure out a way to develop a finishing touch, that coupled with his speed would make him a force in this league. Though as Mister3D pointed out at the Gal game, if he can;t develop it under the tutelage of Dom and Spencer, then it can’t be done. We’ll see.

I’m predicting a 1-1 draw Thursday night with Seattle coming out strong at the start and the end (merely because what team does not finish in a flurry against Dynamo?). Scoring and shutting that crowd down will be key.

Personally, I would like nothing better than to shut up those Sounders guys. I think this is going to be the toughest, most hard-fought playoff series of the lot, but I also know for a fact that Dynamo has the quality to pull it out in the end. I WILL be at Robertson on Nov. 8th.

  17. Christopher says:

Ria, MLS has played 30 games this season. With a possible total of 90 points [assuming all games were won], a team that finishes with 48 points has a .533 ‘batting average’. Looking at it a diffent way, the top five teams in the West finished with 11-13 wins. 11-13 wins out of 30 games is an even worse winning average. Not a single team in the league won more than 13 of 30 games !! I’ll give the league props for parity, but give the majority teams a ‘D’ for apathy and not playing for a win, but for a draw. I suspect the majority of the folks on this board would agree with the lack of killer instinct for the Orange this season.

What I thought was going to be Stuart breakthrough season had me watching him afraid to pull the trigger. What I thought was team discipline had me watching red card after red card [with a ton of yellows thrown in]. Watching the game v. Chivas this past weekend had me realizing how thugish this team has become – gone are the days of ball control and crisp, clean passing. Instead I get bullying and reckless fouls and watching Andrew run people over and sitting-on-your-arse-pleading-to-the-ref-to-please-call-a-foul on that guy that just outskilled/outplayed me off the ball. Even Mullan has gotten into the act. When he’s not pushing and shoving, he’s screaming out his displeasure. This we thought was ERob’s domain.

2 games to go, and then the showers.

  18. JC says:

hey guys, I love these posts, intelligent respectful soccer lovers, I love this sport! (tears in my eyes)and the world cup is just 8 mos away!
I talked about my conspiracy worries and my phantom goals concerns.
    Questions:
    1. Ideal pair up front? my ans: ching + weaver
    2. How do you motivate these guys after so many games and so many miles? my ans: whoever scores gets to yell at Pat O.
3.Any updates from the hospital tent? (corey, landin, cam, rico…)
