The Dynamo were beaten 1-0 in Colorado yesterday in what has to be considered a performance that lack energy and attitude. The 1-0 loss came on a goal from Julien Baudet (who?) who scored off a corner. The Dynamo looked like a team that has been over-extended but were able to rest players in Panama on Wednesday.
Here are a few thoughts;
*Chances created: few and far between from the Dynamo. A first half chance to Kei Kamara from Brian Ching and a 1v1 from Kei Kamara in the second were the best opportunities for the Dynamo. Little penetration out wide from Brad Davis and Brian Mullan along with sub-par possession in the attacking half allowed the Rapids to defend pretty comfortably.
* The GOAL: How often do we see strikers back defending get beat on set pieces and corners. It happened here with Baudet beating Dynamo striker Kei Kamara. I do believe that strikers mentally relax at times when coming back to defend set pieces. The guy who scored was Julien Baudet.
* Refereeing: IT was a crazy week for the Dynamo in this department. Not even worth talking about in Panama because that illustrates why people think Concacaf is a joke with all the red cards and yellows. Will Concacaf make a statement? Discipline the referee? Probably not, they will just stay quiet and let it blow over.
So on to Colorado and I would hope that MLS overturns this…….PABLO MAESTROENI led with his arm and elbow late on Andrew Hainault and deserved a straight red. Pablo then did the old “I have hurt myself routine”. Interesting to see where the league stands on this…….Then Brad Davis sent off for I do not know what……..I don’t like to focus on referee’s but this was a poor week in Conacaf and MLS for the Dynamo. And saying that they didn’t do enough to win the game yesterday, that is clear.
Give me your thoughts on the Dynamo and realize that LA now is within striking distance. The good news is that the Dynamo now have a bye weekend to try and re-gain some energy and find a final push. That game vs. LA in October could be incredibly important in the West vs. the Galaxy so get your tickets now. The Galaxy stuck a knife in Chivas USA this past weekend on a David Beckham game winner……..By the way John Spencer was inducted into the Rapids ring of honor and has his name up on the wall at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park….Ching, Clark and Holden called up to the U.S…….do you like Bradley’s selections overall?

I was fortunate enough to have been able to attend this match, the best part of which was the half time induction of John Spencer into the Rapids Gallery of Honor.

This seems to be par for the course over the last several weeks. The team looks frustrated and like they almost expect things to go against them. They do not seem to be having fun, and certainly aren’t creating chances.
Hopefully a week off helps.
I could not believe how impatient the dynamo were last night. 3 or 4 passes then a long ball over the top. Am I wrong or is their frustration leading to a lack of patience?
Kirk,
spot on. Is it frustration or desperation? As long as teams keep a couple of defenders to thwart the long ball, our teams’ offense seems to choke.
And, I am completely sick of Kamara’s constant hands up appeals to the refs. That smacks of sissy whining and I expect more from a hardworking team like the Dynamo. Okay, so teams are getting away with fouls on our forwards and the refs are having an impact on our games in a negative way; we all see it and agree. But, our team still dishes it out on the physical side a little more than most teams and we’re known as a bit thuggish on the soccer forums. So, it cuts both ways. By stalling and appealing to the refs as much as we have the last few games, it feels like we can dish it out but not take it.
Finally, Mullan should have stayed in and Kamara sub’d by Landin. Once Davis went out all our feeds via the midfield dried up and our play went to dull, ineffective, frustrating long ball over the top. I hope the break brings back some tolerance for the hard game in our boys.
Echo that Frank. Keep your arms down, your emotions in control, and do your job Kei. I can appreciate Kei’s work rate but I’m looking forward to the quality upgrade w/Landin.
Thankfully Hainault was not seriously injured from Mastroeni’s intentional and brutal elbow because it was as calculated and measured as Ben Thatcher’s on Pedro Mendes in the EPL a couple of years ago. Pablo is a thug and he always has been. The league must send him a message. MEMO TO MLS, Ben Thatcher was banned for six matches and fined six weeks’ wages. Moreover, Mastroeni was on a yellow and should have received a second (w/ejection) for his card gesture at the ref after Davis’s foul.
It was an abysmal match. That was two hours of our lives we’ll never get back, a few more for the soldiering Nigel Brooks given the additional travel and what not. I have nothing more to say about the Dynamo’s performance because there was literally NOTHING worthy of mention.
It doesn’t get any easier w/the Crew and Pachuca back-to-back.
This coming bye week will serve the Dynamo good. They have a couple of important games down the stretch, at Columbus, home against the Gals, and at Chivas USA to end the season. All three of those are MUST WINS if they plan on not only winning the West, but winning the Supporter’s Shield.
This was probably the worse game I’ve seen the Dynamo play. The passes were off target and unimaginative and the team’s energy was left in the locker room. The referring was atrocious which didn’t help matters at all. It was a very disappointing performance on everyone’s part and I’m just glad that I didn’t have to pay to see it.
I not gonna be as easy on the Dynamo as all of you’re being, I’ve been blinded by loyalism too long, we as fans need to start asking for more effort from the team, and don’t give me the “we’re tired” excuse.
I know we’re in first place, but don’t be blinded by that either, we’ve got too many games on hand.
Even if you, as a player are tired, you may still get by with attitude and fire.
Dom? Do we even practice long range shots?
Why is Davis always taking the free kicks away from Holden? (Im tired of this one he even did it to Blanco during the whole allstar game)
Corey Ashe needs to be starting instead of Davis at the moment, our wide play is non existent…
everything down the middle is not acceptable when you’re trying to get goals from target strikers.
We need more variables up front…
Ching needs a rest, let Landin start and create some competition…
Holden seems frustrated with his play and part of it is because Rico’s not covering as much ground as he usually does, so that means Stu’s gotta be more on the defensive end.
We never strung 4 passes together and honestly as the commentators said during the broadcast,
“if this is the Dynamo we’ll see in the playoffs, then they won’t get too far…”
I think the same way
(sorry for all the complaints, I’ve got more but space is limited here)
God bless Brian Ching, but Bradley should start Altidore and Davies. Btw, Kei Kamara got held in the box. Should have been a penalty.
The Dynamo are going downhill. You need momentum leading to the playoffs and the team doesn’t appear to have much. I hope they can turn it around.
Bad officiating, poor effort from the Dynamo. I agree our play has gotten a little stale, too predictable in fact. I love our capitan Barrett, but it seems to me Chabala offers more offensively. Moises is right on that no one takes long range shots anymore except for Holden. What’s up with that?
Agree with you alton. If you are uninspired to play quality soccer, at least fire the ball from 30 yards a few times. It tends to open up space on the wings and you might get lucky. The Dynamo need luck considering how they have been playing as of late.
Dynamo will play against Rayados de Monterrey on October 11…thats the friendly…and if y’all remember correctly i called it right before the Landin Signing

I did not get to see the game but by the sound of these comments, I didn’t miss much. The last few games the Orange have been playing uninspiring soccer. I expect Kinnear to shake things up a bit. I expect Landin will start and Kamara will come off the bench. This will affect several other starters as well. Whether we like to hear it or not, most of the players are worn out. For that matter, so is everyone else in the MLS. My one and only complaint with Kinnear so far has been his player substitutions. I feel some players need to come out sooner and some inserted sooner as well. Dom seems to think if it’s working, leave it be! That’s all well and good but a lapse in judgement because the energy is waning, can cost you the game.
Obviously, Kinnear has crossed this bridge before and that is why his depth is the envy of the league. I do expect things to improve and this time off will do wonders for the team. I would be seriously dissapointed if the team does not come back with more fire and passion in there play. Go Orange!
All my thoughts have been pretty much covered. I really think chabala needs to be starting or at least subbing Barrett sooner. I also think landin shoulve started, since he didn’t play in concacaf, insted of being the relief striker. That’s all…
i figured landin wouldve started with ching since kamara played in panama. watching the dynamo has been frustrating. hope they step it up…
Kamara is a whiner. His work ethic does not fit in with the system that Coach Kinnear has established. I am surprised he has lasted this long. Let him warm the bench and put Landin in. He needs to get used to playing with the team anyway.
