The Dynamo got outstanding goalkeeping from Pat Onstad who positioned the Dynamo to get a 3-2 win over Chivas USA and take second place in the Western Conference…By winning this match the Dynamo will open up their Western Conference Semi-final at Seattle next weekend in front of over 30,000 fans at Qwest Field.
Five minutes in Onstad would make a huge save on Justin Braun in a one on one that kept the game scoreless. Two minutes later he would clear another dangerous situation with his feet as the Dynamo started slowly.
In the 25th minute Andrew Hainault would score off a corner and then four minutes later Dominic Oduro would get behind the Chivas USA defense to make it 2-0.
IN the 51st minute the Dynamo would make it 3-0 getting a goal from Abe Thompson.
It would not be managed out easily as Chivas USA would make a push getting a goal in the 59th from Michael Lahoud and then a suspect penalty call would put Eduardo Lillingston to the penalty spot who would convert to make it 3-2.
Chivas USA would pressure in the final minutes but the Dynamo would hold on.

Notes”
*Pat Onstad is the clear MVP of this team based on consistency this year. His early saves critical.
*Brad Davis had two assists
* Dominic Kinnear used all four strikers and got goals from two of them. Does Brian Ching start vs. Seattle when he comes back from suspension?
Is this the game that puts the Dynamo in the right frame of mind for the playoffs? Are you now excited about the playoffs and a match-up with the Seattle Sounders FC!

LIVERPOOL got a needed victory over Manchester United at Anfield that saw the game winning goal produced by Francisco Torres.
The reds get this win over the devils without Steven Gerrard and after four straight losses……..

Alright, it is Glenn’s favorite team against the Dynamo. HAHA! This will be a blood and guts series which reminds me a lot of the Dynamo/Chivas series in 2006. The guys came out and answered the bell today with a hard fought and gutsy victory against a good Chivas team. I question Preki not playing Galindo who clearly would have given out back line some problems. Credit Thompson and Oduro for working their butts off today. Shite officiating, but that is the usual and thank goodness we had no one sent off.

United and Liverpool was a great game and I am glad to see United take one on the chin. I am just waiting for the day when United can lose respectably and not criticize the referee for their problems. The FA needs to hammer Alex Ferguson for his comments and show everyone that no one is above rules and that RESPECT for the game is paramount!

Another great match was the West Ham/Assenal match. It makes my day every time Arsenal chokes one away like they did today. Credit to Zola and the Hammers for having the courage to come back.

Chelsea is top the table and things look great. On to two straight defeats of Bolton and then a beat down of United!

    Up the Blues,

    Coach H

So glad we won but not looking forward to Seattle in Seattle. Their fans are maniacs. Truly an intimidating crowd. Not that Houston is not as well. But we seem to have trouble there. So Ching better be on his game, Weaver, Landin, and Thompson need to speed it up, and maybe Oduro will have another good day. Please let the people know if we will have a full team that day, namely Ashe and Clark and Cruz.

  3. Brian says:

I missed the Dynamo game today, glad to see that they won it. Still have some work to do on the back line. Kudos to Onstadt, again and again!
The Seattle game will be a tough one for sure.
    Go Dynamo!

  4. Edwin says:

Houston looked really good after Onstad stopped what could have been an easy 2-0 or 3-0 lead for Chivas USA, all of the sudden they were up 3-0.

And despite the fact that Preki opted for a more containing type of midfield with Padilla being subbed out for Saragosa, but they made it interesting, was dissappointed not to see more people at the season finale for the US goats, the Galaxy sold out their season finale yesterday, pretty amazing feeling and it was funny to see Beckham get an almost standing ovation for his relentless effort last night and recently, complete turnaround from last year Glenn!

Rememeber how you said he sure looked like he packed it in and just went thru the motions last year towards the end of the season, well I have talked to some LA long time fans and STH as well as LA Riot Squad, Angel City Brigade and Galaxians and well every one feels the same, it was his lack of effort on top of that the whole secrecy with which his AC Milan loan deal was dealt with that bothered us.

Well they made him know that they appreciated his effort this season, hopefully he keeps up his hunger for not just a deep run at the MLS Cup, but a win in Seattle. In any case the HDC was witness to a great game.

Chivas USA really shot themselves in the foot with both Lillingston & Cuesta being suspeneded for the 1st leg at “Home” in the HDC.

Seattle vs Houston looks like it will be worthy of a playoff match up, I kind of wish the Sounders were an East team to make sure they would make it and then a Houston or Galaxy would make the match a real treat!

So Glenn How many fans do you think will show up to Qwest for their 1st ever playoff game on Thursday? I say between 33-40K I say 36K!
What a story up there huh? And all of these guys get to come back next year and other than some depth I don’t know how you make it better? As far as additions that is, maybe a young Golie prospect that can be ready in 3 or 4 years for when Keller retires?
I think if Le Toux can become more of a factor and with the defense more established they will come back as one of the top 4 or 5 favorites to win the MLS Cup in 2010!

I hope the Rob is full on the Saturday game!
We ended up catching up to and passing Toronto for the 2nd most attendance in MLS Glenn!
I see Houston passed DC with that final Galaxy game, and literary they were ahead by a little over 1000 fans and before that game they were behind by very little.
So I’m hoping the Dynamo FO works to make the attendance better, hopefully a better economy leads to better attendance, MLS as a whole saw a slight dip but considering the facts, and how Beckham was not as big a factor although he still played in each of the teams he faced most sold out MLS games everywhere he went! Lets see if Dynamo can brake the 20K barrier a few times next season and who knows maybe they can average 20K+ that would be 4 teams, because Philly is capping off their Seaason tickets at 12000 or 10000 I think so they should have pretty good crowd about a 90% sellout for most games is my prediction at 18,500 capacity!

Lets hope for an exciting MLS Cup Playoffs and an amazing MLS Cup, with so many STH in Seattle I hope to see at least 25-30K fans at the final so we’ll see, and lets do our best to have a better season next year, please guys push the local political officials to make the stadium happen, DC & Houston are very important to the league maybe finally moving to a FIFA type calendar, I hope they do it by the next WC in Brazil, but I think Houston & DC are vital to moving the games.

MLS needs to put pressure on New England and Houston because I think if Seattle can do a good job of erasing all the NFL Logos and lines than New England can do it as well, and Houston needs to pass on the pressure to U of H and demand better field conditions, I don’t see why if the U of H Football team was away for about 2 or 3 weeks and there was some rain a while back they couldn’t water and irrigate the field for when LA came into town, I pray the same hard field conditions aren’t present in November.

Glenn wouldn’t it been better to have played the LA Galaxy game at Reliant? I mean if we’re going to have NFL type lines and logos might as well do it on nice soft grass and then just open up the bottom bowl and the dome enviroment would create crazy noise! Ala San Jose who plays their “Big Matches” at Oakland Colesium or San Francico’s Monster Park.

Anyways well Houston lets see if the old 30K turnouts can be duplicated, hell I say make it better, sell out completely! We’ll see you in the Western Conference Final hopefully I can guarantee you a sold out 27K HDC!

  5. Edwin says:

Glenn, BTW I know Torres scored the winning goal vs ManU, but I think your consfusing with Pachuca’s and our US international midfielder, JOSE Francisco Torres LOL this is Fernando Torres! LOL

Are you going to broadcast any playoff games for ESPN or Fox Soccer Channel?

  6. Kirk says:

    Edwin -

Regarding the football lines at the Rob. I meant to post something after the game. U of H did paint over the football lines with green paint. From my seats on the endline I could barely see the gridiron lines, infact I didn’t notice them at all until halftime, and then just barely. Then I saw the replay on TV and there they were – lightened up and not as annoying but they were there -clear as day, and that I really appreciated the effort to cover up the lines. Hopefully they can steal Seatle’s secret and do an even better job on the 8th. And I agree there has got to be a way to soften the field. Water, maybe cutting the grass a little longer? Something. Anyone know if U of H plays at home on the 7th?

  7. Edwin says:

Kirk, well Seattle has Turf, the only advantage of Turf even the nicer softer soccer friendly and more updated state of the art FieldTurf is that you can actually erase whatever they paint on it for NFL games, best example is the Minnesota Metrodome when the Minnesotta Twins played a 163rd game to decide the American League Central Division champion they showed on ESPN how they buff out the paint after the Sunday game of the NFL’s Vikings.

So my guess is Seattle just invests money in doing so, NY and New England should be ashamed for not doing so, specally New England who’s had a good team that went to the MLS Cup what 4 out of 6 years from 2002 to 2007?

U of H Football team play on the 7th, so that’s most likely why they are playing on Sunday the 8th.

It’s a shame the Cougars didn’t play at the Rob Since Sat Sep 26th so it gave U of H 22 days 3 full weeks and a day to prepare the field so it’s only fair that the lines and logos where erased at least as much as they did, last year the logos and stuff where a lot more visible. But as far as the condition of the field and how hard it was, it’s a shame because they had plenty of time to fix it, U of H just doesn’t care what the Dynamo do or not do or what they think because they know the Dynamo are tied to a contract and can’t play anywhere else, seriously they need to find some other option, or get this freaking stadium deal done now!

  8. Kirk says:

We are in complete agreement. I just thought you would appreciate that they did try something. I have never seen that from them before. Of Course they can and should try to do even more. Maybe(fingers crossed) they can water the heck out of the surface as soon as the game is done on the 7th. I seriously doublt there will be much they can do about the lines, probably not enough time to paint over it all.

  9. Edwin says:

    Kirk,

Lines I’m not too concerned with I mean at the end of the day is asthetics, but the Beckham/Galaxy game was obviously their biggest draw and they had 3 weeks to get it ready, they did okay with the lines but the logos and stuff should have been allowed to fade away more prior to the Sep 26 game, anyways, I’m more mad that New England and New York didn’t do more to deal with the lines during the few games they had to share the stadium, I mean there’s no reason why the New York stadium should of had any lines from the beginning of the season till about September when the NFL kicked into gear.

I just hope they soften the field, irrigate it, plug it now or right after the game on the 31st this saturday and there will be a week to allow it to become more Soccer friendly, specially since they are in a short and narrow field they need to have a nice smooth field, otherwise you might as well play in a Futsal or indoor type of surface?

I said this before the patched up Oakland Colesium and Kansas City’s baseball park are much better than the grass that has been dried up and looked like sand pits at some times over this season for the Dynamo, shame that such a great sports franchise in Houston can’t get a mere 20 million to built a 90-100 million stadium when they are such a great organization that actually WINS!

I think we need to pressure Oscar to just put up the 20 million take the 10 million from the City and have 110 budget without TSU and use the extra money for more seats or for a roof, I think they should go for 22-25K at a minimum I hope it is planned with a quick and easy 7-12K expansion because it will be needed! So come guys pressure the city, county and De La Hoya!
