The Dynamo are in the midst of a first.
Not only have they had the challenge of opening a brand new stadium but the club with personnel moves.
OSCAR BONIEK GARCIA
Excitement is in the air with the arrival of the Honduran wide man.
He is expected to get a start this Saturday on the right side of midfield and a city of 50,000 plus Hondurans are excited as Boniek Garcia did a greet and meet at a local restaurant.
He brings a connection to the Honduran community and could tap in to this vein of soccer passion. A signing that could reap benefits on and off the field.
On the field he brings something that is necessary for the Dynamo.
A player that can penetrate off the dribble or the give and go, bring much needed width to the Dynamo attack on the right side of the field and find forwards.
His qualities could bring a very necessary element to the Dynamo attack that is missing.
It will be exciting to see the DP and consistent Olimpia title winning players start against Philadelphia and with that label he will be expected to produce and has admitted to that.
He will want to produce for the Dynamo and he will want to produce for his countrymen.
The challenge is a good one of the midfielder who according to the Dynamo will wear BONIEK on the back of his jersey in reference to the former Polish start who played internationally and for famed Italian Club Juventus.
The second challenge includes GEOFF CAMERON.
The Dynamo defender/midfielder is in the final stages of of a move to Stoke City in the EPL.
This is an amazing development for a player at one time who was on $34,000 a year and a project. Stoke desires Cameron as a midfielder and his life will change if and when the move comes off.
At 26 years of age the time is now for Cameron to move after five years at the Dynamo and he has mentioned in the past on Soccer Matters by Ironman radio show on Sports Talk 790 that it was his dream.
This would be a win, win for all.
Cameron realizes his dream and gets to stake out his level in the EPL which now is considered the world’s best league.
For the Dynamo and MLS it is also a huge example of success.
The Dynamo and manager Dominic Kinnear picked Cameron out of the MLS combine and drafted him. He has grown and developed with the guidance of Kinnear, Dynamo and MLS. It is positive!
The Dynamo would use their portion of the reported 2.5 million dollar transfer and re-invest in the club to find solutions to their needs.
If the deal does not come off human nature says you could have a very unhappy player on your hands.
This was the case in New England where an offer for Shalrie Joseph from Celtic was turned down.
It is clear both the Dynamo and Stoke must make decisions that will pay off .
Stoke is not Manchester City or Chelsea and does not have the room to make many mistakes in the transfer market.
In the past Ricardo Clark and Stuart Holden both left on free transfers so the Dynamo are clearly aware of this situation.
Interesting and exciting times for sure.
STOP CALLING THE SPANISH BORING
Many are calling Spain a boring team but I beg to disagree.
As much as many criticize the Spaniards why not criticize those teams that set themselves up to defend deep and wait for a singular counter attack or set piece.
That to me is boring so lets call out those that bring negative tactics.
The biggest challenge for Spain against Italy in the final of the Euro’s this Sunday truly seems to be if they can dig into their hunger to win it all.
They are on the brink of history if their were to beat Italy.
One thing I will agree on is the lack of Vicente Del Bosque their manager playing with and out and out striker at times.
And yes Spain does miss David Villa .
DYNAMO/PHILADELPHIA
The Dynamo will take on the Philadelphia Union this Saturday at BBVA Compass Stadium. The game is available on Fox Sports Houston and Sports Talk 790.
Tickets available at HoustonDynamo.com
Join me at the Southwest Corner of the stadium for the Dynamo post game call in show which includes player autographs.
Sunday at Lucky’s is the big charity event being put on by BRICKWALL with proceeds benefitting Dynamo Charities and Brads Brigade and the military.
I am heading down their to judge a cook off and am looking forward to it.
More thoughts on this game later.

I’m excited to see what OBG (or perhaps just BG?) will bring. We haven’t had a right-sided threat in quite some time, so having that will definitely take pressure off of Davis. Also, with Moffat’s suspension will we perhaps see Camargo at DM or will Dom go with Sturgis? I would imagine we might see Camargo at DM and Watson at CAM, which might actually make for a very intriguing midfield to pair with BG & Davis, plus an in-form Bruin. More than anything, I want to see some fight against a Philly team that is building since Nowak was sacked so we definitely have a challenge on our hands.
As for Cameron, I hope he goes on to bigger and better things, he’s a good guy and a great player and I know he wants the bigger challenge of playing in the EPL. Going to a place like Stoke will be a good transition in terms of going from MLS to EPL, and I could see them trying him as either a fullback or DM. Oh, and if we get a nice chunk of change out of the deal I don’t think we’ll complain about it either
And really, Spain boring? I suppose my only complaint is that teams know to load up in the final third and try not to allow passing spaces…without the use of a “true” striker it does make it more challenging for Spain to find that final ball. But I’d love to see if Fernando Llorente could feature, I know its been said he’s tired from playing a long campaign this year but he was in amazing form and I think could be a real challenge for Italy…just as they have Balotelli, I think Llorente could be a real problem for Italy. Football will definitely be the winner as long as both teams cut out the gamesmanship that can sometimes accompany a game where the stakes are so high.
It looks like we are back to square 1. This side has changed directions in one year. I also would like to see Camargo and Watson in the middle of the midfield. It will be intresting if Kinnear gives OBG the freedom to play his style of soccer. Our defense needs to improve if we are going to have any hope of making the playoffs this year.
Lets get three points sat.
