Dynamo douse Aztex 2-0/ Ferguson re-shaping United with Valencia / “Galacticos add another star but will this lead to success?

kaka11111.jpg

Last night in Austin, TX the Houston Dynamo defeated the Austin Aztex of the USL 2-0 in front of 4,000 fans.
Dynamo manager Dominic Kinnear gave opportunity to a number of players that have not had significant playing time.
The Dynamo got goals from Corey Ashe and new signing Dominic Oduro.
If you were at the game give us your insight!

UNITED WE ARE!
So Manchester United are moving forward without Cristiano Ronaldo and it looks like Carlos Tevez as well.
The whole key to this re-shaping of the “Red Devils” is the signing of Wigan attacker Antonio Valencia.
By acquiring Valencia it looks now like Wayne Rooney will get some consistency positionally.
Rooney looks set to be the main striker now .

STARS, STARS and more STARS but can they be molded together?
That is the question for Real Madrid. Who now will acquire Karim Benzema from Lyon to go along with trophy signings Cristiano Ronaldo and Kaka.
Can this squad be controlled? Can this squad be managed with all these monster ego’s?
Time will tell but Chilean Manuel Pelligrini the new manager will be on a short leash and expected to produce quickly. The “engineer” better get this right!

Give me your thoughts on Manchester United’s re-make and Real Madrid?

Well the Dynamo put on a great match…or so i heard from the color commentary. I enjoyed USLlive.com though it was great seeing the Sounders go against The Timbers, can’t wait for that derby to come to the MLS! The truth is los Galacticos didn’t work out last time that well, so personally I don’t think they’ll work out this season. Of course i’ll watch the games because you just cannot let an opportunity like seeing those stars play together on the same team go!!!!! Manchester United messed up in letting Carlitos Tevez go, he’s loved by the fans and produced when he was needed. On the other hand I would love to see United turn into a team that fields nothing but English players ala Chivas with Mexican players (even though i hate Chivas) or Saprissa with Costa Rican players.

Great game from the lads last night. Turns out, Nelson field is in my brother’s neighborhood, so it felt like an authentic local football club experience. Although I tried to get him to don the Dynamo crest, he refused. Although he enjoys soccer, this was his first Aztex game, and the first pro sports event we’ve attended together since 1998. I forgave him rooting for the Aztex, and he even bought my ticket so I wouldn’t “feel bad when the Dynamo lose.”

I thought we controlled the ball well, especially given the turf conditions. Mullan made a couple of brilliant runs through the Aztex defense, but followed up with poor crosses to no one that went out of bounds. Ade looked strong, and his possession was very good. Dominic looked like his time with RBNY has given him trememdous skill on the turf. My only gripe with DO was his persistent failure to strike the ball with authority. It looked like he kept trying to chip the ball, and he missed a sitter that Kei fed him late in the game. Speaking of Kei, his ten minutes were dominant. The ball he set DO up with was the result of a very strong play holding up the ball.

All in all, a great experience. The Aztex need to find more suitable accomodations ultimately, but they’re putting a decent product on the field. I picked up a scarf to show some love.

EB & TA had a good showing. Lots of smoke. I’m sure APD wasn’t such a fan, and one set of smokebombs choked out the entire concession area just before the start of the second half.

    Nord -

Since you were at the game can you (or anyone) shed some light on the formation Dom was playing. Radio said they were playing a 3-5-2. I’m curious who was playing what positions. I get Oduro and Akinbiyi wer up front and Boswell JAmes and Chabala in the back but how did Dom deploy the midfielders?
Where did Cameron play when he entered the game -that kind of stuff. I’m sure that it was mentioned at the begining of the halves and when subs were made but I missed some of the comentary.

  4. Leo says:

A 3-5-2? That is insane and risky considering how safe Dom usually plays it…this is a crazy move; now i really do hope that he one day becomes USMNT Head Coach….

  5. brent says:

Bob do you really have to take our whole team to the gold cup, take anybody else please give us back rico. with all the injuries and nt call ups will we even have any subs.

I am a big fan of Idlewild, and probably this has been suggested before…but they do a song called ‘El Capitan’

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1jRMxYGACvA

It’s a bit poppy, but slow it down and it has the makings of the best soccer song ever…

    Stand up,
    stand up,
    and stand down,
    I’ll climb El Capitan,
and jump off to cheers from the crowd,

    Stand up,
    stand up,
    and stand down,
and I hope you take your camera,
to photograph my tears as they hit the ground,

Spread the word to the Texian Army!

    Kirk –

Glenn Davis is laughing the deep belly laugh of the evil David Hasselhoff in the Night Rider episodes when Michael went bad after a head injury because of you asking me a tactical soccer question.

These are things I know nothing about, and don’t pretend to. I wish I could answer your question – Danny Cruz was on the left side…Mullan on the right…wanna say JMH middle. Even with that, I’m probably saying something wrong. Just ask Glenn. Any time I try to pretend I’m not just emotion, I get burned.

There’s a fanatico out there somewhere who attended and can answer. I liked the smokebombs, the goals, and .Com absolutely wrecking fools out there…

  8. Kirk says:

Actually you told me more than I knew when we started.

I am assuming from what you told me that Ustruck and JMH were in the middle. and I am pretty sure Mulroooney was playing a defensive mid role.

so I actually have my answer. thanks

and Glenn, if you are laughing shame on you….

  9. coop says:

    Yep kirk you are correct.

Second half Ashe came on on the left for Mullan and looked great, Cameron came on for Mulrooney. Ashe made good runs and crosses and managed to finish himself once. Mullan looked as goos as usual. Later Kei came on for Ade (who also looked good against the Aztex backline).

Tally Hall looked pretty strong as well. He wasn’t tested too much but had one fantastic save that he had to lean backwards and to his right for but managed to get a hand on it to knock it over.

EB put on a bit of a fireworks display. TA set off a flare that left a nice orange haze over the field.

  10. Kirk says:

    Thanks coop

curious how Cameron looked in a central/defensive midfield role. Once ERob is back I wonder if we might see Geoff there from time to time when Rico is out on USMNT duty – or house hunting in France…..
