As I watched Luiz Camargo jogging around the field today at the Houston Amateur Sports Park I was quickly reminded of how important the play of the Brazilian will be this year for the Dynamo.

His ability to man one of the central midfield spots also played a part in the Dynamo run to the playoffs. The promising part and what I believe was the impetus for the Dynamo to re-sign Camargo was that he gradually adapted game after game to MLS and alerted us to a high ceiling of possibility. Last year he was adjusting to the league, his teammates, his coach and to his role in central midfield.

Lets not forget the great language barrier that existed with him last year also.
Camargo and his skill set, vision, comfort on the ball is vital to the lifeblood of the Dynamo this year and he will be expected to dictate more and control the game more in the middle of the field. Can he push into the attack more in support of strikers? Can he provide more of those moments of skill that can open up a defense and bring even more of a threat out of midfield? If this happens it can pair nicely with the long range threat of Scotsman Adam Moffat who added that element of danger to the Dynamo last year.
Camargo will be expected to be more influential game in and game out.
We saw Juninho grow as a central midfielder in LA to an all star caliber player. Whose to say that Luiz Camargo won’t have more of an influence this year!
What type of season do you think Luiz Camargo will have this year for the Dynamo?

Camargo is going to have a great season. What a find by Kinnear. In Dom we trust!
I’ve always been pretty suspect of new players. It usually takes a while for them to grow on me (if they ever do at all for that matter.) Take Danny Cruz for example. He took a while but there was no denying his passion, drive, hard work, and dedication. He will truely be missed for all of those attributes I mentioned earlier and his energy were vital to the Dynamo and their fans. On that note, Luiz Camargo caught my eye almost instantly.
Camargo has incredible vision and he’s great with the ball at his feet. He’s ready for quick one-two passes (which I feel a lot of American players aren’t use to and should work on more frequently), and doesn’t panic when approached by one, two, or three players. From what I saw, his fitness level was the only thing holding him back on the field. He’s still young, but with the Kinnear working with him, I feel he can dominate in the midfield against any MLS team. He has that “play maker” ability, all while being humble. He’s definitely one of my favorite players and I can’t wait to see what he does this year.

Camargo or Moffat will have to step up into the attacking MF. If not we will be playing with two defensive mids. Camargo reports in out of shape. Hope it does not hurt him down the road. Its a long season. Who will replace him if he goes down?
Davis is ok when he moves into the middle but we do not see enough rt footed shots on goal. Davis also unbalances our midfield when he goes inside. I think the other MLS teams will be better prepared for that this year.
Right now no one has stepped up on the rt side yet. Do not understand why we would want to give up on a young player like Cruz. Now we sign another player from Colorado to try to replace him. Looks like we have two midfields positions that are open. Depth will also be a problem on the outside and middle.
Clark is looking good but what happens if we get another injury in our midfield. Davis needs more time off so when he does play he will be 100 percent.
I agree with your comments, as of those of the other commenters. I hope Camargo has a great year. I liked what I saw last year. His first touch is good. Calm on the ball. Get’s himself and the team out of some tough situations with clever forethought and clean touches. I see him as our true #10 CAM. He and the team need to grow into that role.
Here’s my two deep lineup
GK: Hall/Deric
RB: Hainault/Sarkodie
CB: Boswell/Hainault
CB: Cameron/Taylor
LB: Ashe/Taylor
RM: Clark/Dixon
DM: Moffat/Sturgis
AM: Camargo/Watson
LM: Davis/Ashe
FW: Ching/Bruin
FW: Carr/Kandji
Reserves: Rolfe, Weaver, Soto, Ownby, Arreola, Sato, Creavalle
Depth concerns during Nat call ups (or injury): CB – Cameron, Hainault, Taylor
Doesn’t look like Aseweh and Okiomah will make the team.

Danny Cruz was Adidas Generation which meant he did not count against salary cap.
The Dynamo and Cruz/agent put a different valuation on him with DC obviously willing to pay him more.
MCVD like your thoughts, as stated Camargo I judge will become more attack oriented from his position, with Sturgis the Dynamo can go two defensive mids against particular opponents if they like or a team that they feel has real strength in that area.
Real question is pentrator out wide that can bet behind outside backs and the striker position.
Could we see a rotation policy up front? Sure we could. Brian Ching played 1200+ minutes and can’t be expected as last year to be everyday starter.
