So it is off to the CUSCATLAN STADIUM tonite for the Orange and a very important match in CONCACAF CHAMPIONS CUP play.
One would think this is a huge game for an EL SALVADORIAN club for the mere fact that they can advance with a win against the CHAMPIONS of the U.S.
A measuring stick type game for FIRPO, absolutely. Also a rare visit from a team from the U.S.
The Dynamo have clearly focused on Saturday afternoon’s playoff match against the NEW YORK RED BULLS leaving their top players at home.
The most experienced players heading down to SAN SALVADOR include STUART HOLDEN, COREY ASHE, PATRICK IANNI, CHRIS WONDOLOSKI and KEI KAMARA along with goalkeeper TONY CAIG.
The DYNAMO must pull of a draw or a win to stay alive in the CONCACAF CHAMPIONS CUP with one home date remaining against FIRPO.
UNAM PUMAS have already advanced.
The squad tonite will be coached by JOHN SPENCER . Catch the game on the FOX SOCCER CHANNEL.
*CHIVAS win SUPERCLASSICO
When the final whistle blew CHIVAS coach EFRAIN FLORES crossed himself in front of 110,000 fans at AZTECA STADIUM. The 2-1 victory is always a stand alone result for bragging rights in what is called the SUPERCLASICO. OMAR ARELLANO bagged both CHIVAS goals and despite an indifferent season up to this point the club has re-knewed hopes to get in the playoffs. Meanwhile look what a tournament like the COPA SUDAMERICA can do for a club. CHIVAS might be struggling in their league play but in this tournament they have a shot at getting to the semi-finals when they host RIVER PLATE next week. These games bring the best out in teams.
Will good results be enough to save EFRAIN FLORES job. Has the loss of OMAR BRAVO and MAZA RODRIGUEZ just been too much?
Weigh in CHIVAS fans as I know AMERICANISTA’S probably won’t after the loss. But if you are brave enough CLUB AMERICA fan tell me what is wrong with this proud organization.
Vision? Leadership? Player selection? Coaching?

Come on Reserves, you can do it. If the young guns can get at least a point we have Pre Turkey Day Shoot out coming. Firpo also has some players suspended for tonights game, Quintanilla and Sanchez both defenders I believe, so maybe that will help.
I am glad that Spencer is getting the shot at coaching this group, and bearing the responsibility of getting a result in this match is a pretty cool reward for the great reserve season these guys put together. The organization is certainly showing the confidence that they have in these young guys. I really look forward to watching the game. These guys have played together all season and seem to have developed some pretty good chemistry. If they can get a result it will only boost their confidence going into the playoffs.
I have to say that I am suprised and a little concerned that Corey, Stuart and Kai are even down there. These are guys that can help us in NY. The lions share of the team is reserves, lets see them in action. Kyle Brown obviously isn’t going to get a stiff in the MLS playoffs, niether is Kpene, leave Kai with the senior team. Stuart and Corey are absolute game changers any time they step onto the field. Their change of speed and intense hunger for the ball may be needed on the pool table(fast surface) that is Giants Stadium. I hope there is something left in the tank on the weekend.
Kamara, Holden, Ashe strengthen the squad to get a result down there.
A loss and Concacaf Champions Cup is done and MLS results will be disappointing despite all the challenges.
Youth is king tonite in El Salvador and John Spencer in charge is intriguing with the main squad and coach back in Houston preparing for New York.
Holden endurance and maturity makes me believe he must lead down there.

With the playoff roster locked down, this lineup is Dom’s only option. It just so happens that the weekend playoff fixture dictates the decision for him, however, this may not be a bad sequence of events. This is a chance at redemption on the heels of the Pumas loss and a potential confidence boost for the guys who frankly failed at home last week. They got stroked v Pumas but now a week later, they get to come back in the same cup competition? What a better time to come good and in the big picture, should the Dynamo go on to win Champions League, it truly will be a total team effort with almost every member of the squad participating on the pitch.
One thought on Holden Glenn. I perceive this as the ultimate vote of confidence w/Dom putting his money where his mouth is. I once heard him say in an interview that “We expect everyone to be prepared and we expect everyone when called, to play like a starter”. This is a critical moment in club history where Dom is literally handing the club to Holden on the pitch and Spencer on the bench. What a fantastic story within the story and an even greater achievement if we come out of it w/3 points.
I am a little surprised that Kamara is making the trip. For a few games there it looked like Kei was Dom’s preference up top with Ching. I have to wonder if that Red card in the San Jose game put him in the dog house with Dom.
lets go boys!!! time to see what the young pups are made out of.
FOREVER ORANGE
Club America is like Wall Street speculation: short-term, short-term, short-term. The organization needs to go through a major cultural transformation. They need for executives to make quick, administrative decisions and for qualified soccer people to handle the product on the field.
I like that Marco!
Kamara not in doghouse from what I see Kirk. Just the rotation policy of strikers up front. Remember Kamara had a great game on the road at UNAM. Possibly his best game as a DYNAMO.
Glenn,
If things get bad out there tonight, don\’t be surprised if you see John Spencer lace up the boots and get out there. He still has it!
I think the difference was that Chivas players knew what this game meant what it represented. America players coaches are just brought in for one or two seasons and their out its the same thing over and over. Chivas players have been playing there since little kids. example the goalie hernandez, solis mejia magallon avila marco fabian Medina and have generations of chivas blood through their veins like OMAR ARELLANO. and this Chivas team averages about a 22 age so that just shows the poise these boys have
Glenn, I can’t wait to see the game tonite. Definitely it is a big decision by Dom and the organization to go with primarily a “reserves” team. Still Holden, Ashe, Iani, Cameron and Kamara should provide good leadership and play to help out the reserves. One thing is certain, it will not be for lack of effort on this team.
On another note, while every thing I read in the MLS about Houston is positive, the fact remains the league wants Columbus or somebody else to win the cup. It raises my dandruff to think that the two time champions are so maligned. I am sure Dom and the players are aware of this and this helps to make the team more committed to win it all, again! This is a class organization with teriffic players that deserve a stadium. Somehow I feel this will be accomplished soon in the months to come, especially if they bring back the trophy to Houston again. Go Orange!
Hey glen!
Cant wait till kick off! if we can just get a tie, we can try to put it away at home. Glen, are my RSS feeds messed up? becuase I haven’t recieved a podcast update since Oct. 8th!!!
thanks
Luis
I have to say I have been biting my tongue about this predicament we are in now. It started last week when we played our reserves team against UNAM and played our first team against a meaningless game against Chivas USA. What was Dom thinking??? CCL is huge and we should have used our best players last Wednesday and we could have rested them against Chivas and Firpo (away). This was a huge blunder. If we lose tonight – well, I don’t know – but I won’t be happy…
Orange, don’t fail me now….
Seems to me the priority is simply the MLS Cup and Dominic Kinnear has made that very clear.
Well they did it!!! Well done guys. The Orange dominated for 80 min. but that last 10 their fatigue seemed to show. Not in lack of effort, but in losing a step that resulted in poor finishing. I can’t help but think that if they had not just played 90 min on Sunday their finishing would have been sharper at the close of the match. I did expect Brown to go in sooner and I thought we would see Kpene at about the 75th minute, but hey it was great result and now the men in Orange control their own destiny. It would be pretty cool to win a third MLS Cup then come home for a ticker tape parade, and a game. 30,000 people to welcome the victors home, how cool would that be.
By the way, can we start looking for a new backup now. Maybe Zach Wells will be available after the season ends. Arghh!!!!!!!!
the tie is just what we needed…but we surely lacked some leadership…i’ve got some mixed feelings about the way we’ve handled our games lately…Im with you Jason…I’ll post about tonight’s game tomorrow…I just finished watching the game on my DVR and really feel as I need some time to “think” about some of the decisions our coaches have made…Im nobody to tell them anything…but we could;ve managed this a bit better…
great job dynamo youngsters…it;s not your fault you coulndn’t get the 3 points…
