Dynamo aerial game too much for FAS in El Salvador/ Barcelona v. Real Madrid today

The Dynamo scored three times via the air last night in San Salvador, El Salvador at the Cuscatlan stadium fielding a mixed lineup in a 3-1 win in Concacaf Champions League play.

It was clear with the squad picked that Dominic Kinnear picked that he would likely return to a 4-4-2 and that is what he did making a number of changes.

His choice to start Brian Ching and Cam Weaver was smart and reaped benefits early via the air with Ching (12th) and Weaver(19th) scoring to get off to the perfect start.
To be fair, FAS was horrific defending set pieces and crosses and were punished.

JeVaughan Watson (60th) would produce and early second half goal that would make it 3-0 before FAS would make a late push scoring through Jonathan Aguila in the 64 to spoil the shutout.

Regulars were rested, others like Colin Clark, Warren Creavalle, Nate Sturgis, Kofi Sarkodie, Tyler Deric would get needed playing time.
All in all it was mission accomplished in El Salvador and the Dynamo now will battle it out in this group with Olimpia of Honduras who will be a much greater challenge.

Next up is Toronto FC this Saturday night at BBVA Compass Stadium who lost at Columbus 2-0 last night. The Crew got a goal from Federico Higuain who is quickly making his mark in combination with Eddie Gaven and Jairo Arrieta.

Hi, Glenn. I am glad the Dynamo won and that players were able to get much needed playing time BUT I do not like the CCL games. The timing is terrible (last third of the MLS season). The chances of injury are higher to our players. I also believe these games are distracting and worrisome to fans and players alike. I want my team to be totally focused on the MLS league. I know many disagree but, for me, this is an unneeded series of games. They seem to be there to penalize the successful teams from the year before. Maybe it “grows” the game but I think the cost is too high. I may be missing the big picture on this but fail to see why we do these games. If we miss out on the playoffs due to these games I will be seriously unhappy. I would like my team to focus ONLY on MLS cup acquisition!

That said, GO DYNAMO whomever and wherever you play!

Glenn: I too saw the game Wed. nite and was relieved that the team won. I believe it is the first time on soil outside the U.S. The field was not too good but the aerial play of the Orange was good. Colin Clark sent a beautiful lob into the box ahead of Ching who promptly headed the ball into the goal. It was beautiful to watch although in the later half of the game, Clark was limping noticeably. Sarkodi made a beautiful cross into the box and Weaver headed it in, same for Watson off a corner kick. I was hoping to see Rico Clark play but he was a little banged up. I still think inserting him into the middle, putting Davis and Garcia wide and letting Kankji and Carr fly down the wings, will produce a lot of goals. I was at the game Sunday and saw what a difference Clark instantly made to this team. His passes are crisp and on the mark. You could see he benefited from his stint in Germany. It’s made a better player out of him and will improve the team, I think. As far as the impending sale of the Orange to Les Alexander. I say great!
Mr. Alexander is a winner and wants nothing less. He may meddle somewhat but the product on the pitch will be first class. If the sale goes through, I predict they will be increasing the seating of the stadium in the next few years.

I love the CCL games and the challenge of playing other countries. As the MLS advances further and further it’ll gather more respect and followers. they could however work on much better and even officiating as it tends to be biased against the MLS teams and inconstant overall.

Hope Manny is right on Alexander. He was very good in the early championship years, but has been slipping since. Perhaps it’s some bad luck (injuries and underperforming players), but I think it’s more the general manager decisions. Hopefully Les will allow the existing staff to handle all things soccer and watch the Dynamo wins many more championships.

And finally I have to give props and “at a boy” to Bobby Boswell. He really is an ironman. Amazing he can keep physically in good shape, avoid injuries and maintain the mental aspects and desire for the game. Also doing a fantastic job mentoring/captaining the defense at the same time. Way to go Bobby!
