The Dynamo acquired 6′4 striker Macoumba Kandji from the Colorado Rapids.
So flash back to the 2010 MLS Cup Final between FC Dallas and the Colorado Rapids where Kandji would play a part in the game winning goal for the Rapids that would ultimately be termed an own goal.
On that play Kandji tore his ACL where he would return last season during mid-season. Kandji only appeared 9 times with 1 start playing 123 minutes but did appear more in Concacaf Champions League play.
The Dynamo don’t give up much here for a striker that once attracted attention from Bolton after scoring a goal against Manchester City in a friendly match for the New York Red Bulls.
In New York, Kandji scored 5 goals in 36 appearances.
He is tall, lanky and likes to pull out wide facing defenses as opposed to playing with his back to goal.
Kandji was born in Senegal and raised in Gambia before coming to the United States and North Carolina.
Kandji really came to the attention of many playing in the USL for the Atlanta Silverbacks where he scored 13 goals in the 2007-2008 season.
The hope here is that Kandji with a change of environment can produce.
Today the Dynamo defeated Montreal 2-0 in a friendly match in Carson, California.
Meanwhile in England manager Italian Fabio Capello quit the English national team.
His tenure with England was stormy and he seemed never to be the correct choice. Be warned, the performance of the English national team comes down to alot more than who is manager of the team.

I like the addition. Reminds me of Special K 2.0 (Kei Kamara version 2.0). Tall, speed, good wide play. We’ve got an interesting mix of fwds now: Bruin, Weaver, Rofle, Carr, Kandji and rumored to be talking to Fulham’s Andy Johnson. Our defense is set, now need to add DP fwd and special right midfielder to the mix. Roster coming together nicely. IDWT!
Do not know much about him. Why would Colorado wait this late to get rid of him? Will he fit in with the team?
As stated in the piece above he played 123 minutes last year but I remember him in 2007 when he turned heads with a bunch of goals in the USL.
Remember seeing Kandji play at Rob, and remember his gutsy performance at the ‘10 MLS Cup. Do I remember this correctly, did he not stay in the game even after the ACL tear in the 107th minute – he was the third sub so maybe they played a man down from 107 to 120 mins ? I’m old and my memory’s fading….
I think we have enough forwards now, need to work on aquiring an attacking midfielder IMO.
Re: “…where he scored 13 goals in the 2001-2008 season.” 13 goals over 7 years ? Careful with the quick typing, Glenn – remember how you were razzed for grammatical errors ?
Diggin’ on the new stadium webcam.
Re: Capello – anyone in that slot will be under intense scrutiny as those blokes eat and breath footy, but Rednapp’s no saint. He sat at the helm at Portsmouth ['08] when they began their descent to bankruptcy [a fall only eclipsed by Charlton Athletic's fall from grace], and I find it highly unlikely he was oblivious to the financial shenanigans taking place. Wait till the UK press revisits his Wikipedia page and re-reviews the littany of corruption allegations Harry’s associated himself with.
