Dynamo accomplish mission in Honduras tying Olimpia 1-1

Central America is never the easiest place to play but the Dynamo did what they needed to do to earn a 1-1 draw despite playing 30 minutes a man down.
The draw now puts the Dynamo in the drivers seat of their Concacaf Group with home games against FAS in September and Olimpia in October.

Mixed lineup: Dominic Kinnear continued with mixing and matching in his lineup but on this occasion went with Oscar Boniek Garcia while rested Brad Davis.
Will Bruin , Mac Kandji, Bobby Boswell all made later entries.

Red card: Nathan Sturgis went off with a red card that then defined the Dynamo tactics. Kinnear would bring on Bobby Boswell and play with a 4-4-1 looking for the draw.

Missed opps/Deric huge : Olimpia had chances in both halves but Tyler Deric came up with two outstanding saves to give the Dynamo the type of goalkeeping they would need on a night like this.

Boniek Garcia: again was excellent this time against his former team in his former stadium. Olimpia players found the opportunity to knock him about off the ball and came in late on occasions.
Guy is a model pro.

Moffat goal: the delivery was perfect on the tying goal from Nathan Sturgis and an Olimpia defender slipped. Still Moffat took his goal wonderfully.

Re-cap: It was not artistic nor was it meant to be. Sturgis ejection defined the tactics for the Dynamo on this night further and that may have been a good thing in retrospect.
Officating a challenge, fate and good play all a part of this important result that puts the Dynamo in the poll position in their group.

  1. Lantz OCU says:

I’ve said it before, we need to see Weaver off this team after this year is over. Although he has looked better as of late, his performance is not up to par with the rest of the team. I cringe when the ball gets passed to him. He does one of two things, loses possession or makes off target shots. Oduro got traded the next week after blowing a perfect opportunity like the one we saw last night for Weaver. I would like to see the same happen here.

  2. Tinman says:

Yes i am sure Weaver is disappointed too. The Oduro trade was a bad one for the dynamo. He has scored in double figures for Chicago the last two seasons. I think they want to get rid of him too. Bruin had a chance to win it, do we want to trade him too?
I was encouraged by the way we played in a different country against a side that was undefeated at home their last several matches.
What bugs me is why the stadium management team wants to schedule HS football teams there. They have to know the stadium will be tore up and the pitch destroyed before we can even get into the playoffs ! I guess they plan to strip search everybody so they can not tag the walls etc.
