Hey Glenn,
I just got through listening to your podcast from last night. All I can say is “Wow.” I have always been a supporter of Sylvia Garcia in all of her runs, but I have rarely heard a politician being so condescending as she was to you, and by extension all soccer fans who listen to your show.
If I can summarize what she said, it seemed to me to be: “We’re not spending tax dollars there unless there’s a referendum.”
Or rather “Hey, it’s not up to me. It would be up to the voters. That is if there’s a referendum. ”
Or rather: “Don’t ask me, ask that guy over there.”
Just amazing, and disgusting.
what a biaaaaaaaaaaa!!! didn’t we vote on a name and she played the race card and practically demanded we change the name, and now voting is the right thing to do. how do you people back this hypocritcal woman (what else would you expect from a polotician though). this could be very bad for dynamo fans. GET YOUR HEADS OUT OF YOUR ARSE HOUSTON!!!
FOREVER ORANGE
It looks like some back room deal will be necessary to buy her off…Politics is ugly…
Glenn, NOW this all makes perfect sense.
Mayor White’s letter is addressed to Judge Ed Emmett. To be fair, since the July 02 date of this letter, Judge Emmett has had his hands full with the Hurricane AND a tough re-election campaign that just ended on Tuesday. Frankly, in a close campaign, he was not about to cast any light on this issue until he his re-election. This was never going to get addressed by the county until Nov. 6 at best.
Ms. Garcia and Mr. Lee…both Democrats…have little interest in making life easy for Ed Emmett…a Republican so politics are clearly in play. As much as I’m all for piling on Sylvia Garcia after that embarrassing interview, her responses make sense from a political AND procedural perspective. Mayor White’s letter is clearly addressed to Ed Emmett so a response would be required in writing from Emmett’s office to the City of Houston I presume? There is no time table or expectation set for a response in Mayor White’s request so therein lies Garcia’s excuse to pass the buck. Knowing Judge Emmett would not be pressing her during his campaign just gave her more time to sit on her hands. Now that the election is over, Judge Emmett is responsible for gathering the position of the County (from Garcia and Lee?) and submitting the official response to the City of Houston for the public record so from what I can tell, the next move comes from Judge Emmett’s office.
Based on info readily available online, there are at least 22 TIRZ in Harris County. Granted, a stadium is a unique project in many ways over say an office building but given the 10M dollar request, I would be curious to know if this is an unprecedented request or if it is comparable with other TIRZs. Since the 10M figure is so offensive to Sylvia, I would be extremely interested to know if Ms. Garcia or any other Commissioner has approved such funds for any other TIRZ.
How do we voice our support for the County’s participation in the project to get the deal done to the various politicos involved like Ms. Garcia and Mr. Lee? I would think it interesting if they received thousands of e-mails and letters from the thousands of Dynamo fans.
Why not post a link on the Dynamo web page to generate the “grass roots” ground swell of support that is so important in these types of situations?
Thanks.
Constituents should make themselves heard by contacting Sylvia Garcia and El Franco Lee, I am amazed how little she seemed to be in touch with as a hispanic woman when it comes to the sport of soccer and its importance.
These two and the Mayor are all people that should be contacted with your intentions. You should demand that they speak on this issue.
