They say you hired to get fired. You are only keeping the seat warm for the next person.
Chivas owner Jorge Vergara has fired manager Efrain Flores after three straight losses. Flores had been in charge for 18 months.
A Chivas loss this weekend to Tigres apparently was the last straw but one must think Vergara was smarting after Chivas lost 1-0 to rivals Atlas in the Guadalajara “derby”.
Vergara has fired the following coaches since his ownership of the team: Daniel Guzman, Hans Westerhof (two times), Xavier Azkargorta, Jose Manuel de la Torre, Benjamin Galindo and Eduardo de la Torre.
Chivas have only won one title under the reign of Vergara .
Now back to Flores who I count as a friend. I believe he would have turned this squad around . In a recent trip to Houston, Flores expressed to me the amazing amount of travel that his squad was undergoing.
This year Chivas played 11 games in 36 days in South America and Mexico and it is fair to say the squad looks tired.
You win at Chivas they love you, you lose and fans want you removed. Not to mention the most egotistical owner in Mexico in Vergara……..
GIANT CLUBS HIT U.S. SHORES
The World Football Challenge will see AC Milan, Chelsea, Inter Milan and Club America (How did they get in there? Oh yeah, popularity because it is sure not because of great form) compete in a six city round robin tournament July 19- July 26.
Global superstars like Ronaldinho, Frank Lampard, Michael Ballack, Kaka, Julio Cesar and Zlatan Ibrahimovic will be performing. Having called the Italian Supercup final between AC Milan and Juventus one summer the energy that these games bring is amazing.
Games will be played at Stanford Stadium in Palo Alto, Calif., Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif., Georgia Dome in Atlanta, GA., M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore, MD, Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass., and Cowboy Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
Houston will be hosting the Gold Cup in July so that probably precluded our city from getting a game. What do you think of these games and do they help grow the game in the United States?

Sorry about your friend the coach, I have friends that have recently lost jobs and it’s really tough. Having said that here goes.
What ever keeps any Chivas team in turmoil is just peachy with me. Vergara bought into MLS with the idea that any player from Mexico was far superior to anything that a US team could put on the field and so began the Chivas USA experiment. After putting together a team that was worse that Real Salt Lake, but chocked full of Mexican players and alienating every non-Hispanic would be soccer fan in Orange County with purgoritive and inflammatory statements about who’s team it was and who’s team it wasn’t, according to Vergara, it wasn’t America’s by the way, the experiment ended in very public abortion. Sadly, Mr. Vergara had to hire an American coach, a guy named Bob Bradley, no introduction needed, 5 American starters, Guzan ( now in the EPL), Marsch, Kljestan, Borenstein, and Razov and now have a contending team. With only 2 Mexican born players on the roster, the team is now closer to Team Suburb Soccermom, than it is Chivas. But they still can’t put people in the stands, although the attendance has picked up only slightly since the “Chivas Norte” days. But I’m afraid the damage is done in the minds of a lot of fans. Amazing, as it stands right now Chivas USA is having more success on the field than the mother ship. God loves a good ironical joke!
Glenn, I’m not sure how this helps, I been reading a blog on soccernet.com, and some people think its a knock on MLS, they even accuse the teams of not bringing their A-list stars, that is just a plain lie, because I have seen 4 exhibition matches 2 Barca games the LA & Houston games, the Chelsea game vs David Baeckham and all the press in the world game, and Rangers vs Galaxy game, and let me tell you they are great!
I think this is a good way to introduce people to the game of soccer, if you have friends or neighbors who are skeptical, take them to these exhibitions, when they understand how the game is played, if they become fans of your local MLS team, they will demand good soccer, thus putting the pressure on the teams, mainly the GM’s and coaches to improve the field product, to keep up with the Seattles, Toronto’s, Vancouver and Galaxy’s of the league, not ready to include DC in there they been suspect as of late!
Glenn, I think Chivas needs to develop their young teams, sending them to play the teams in Texas and California I think would be great, it would create tournaments with opportunity to raise money for both Chivas and US clubs, plus it would give the cities a boost in dollars, and give them a chance to play, the Dynamo & FC Dallas along with Aztex and Laredo teams could play their young guns in these tournaments, plus we need to get games for the young players of the MLS teams, and the academy could begin playing good opposition, plus it would open the door for players to maybe come play here for a few season from Mexico, I think 17 or 18 year olds from Chivas & others would be prepared to play with the MLS squads, remember what Hans said!
I think Vergara hasn’t paid enough attention to Chivas USA, I think a guy like Borgetti or Bofo would of done wonders for the team, but I really don’t mind them not succeeding being a Galaxy fan, I do however want them to fill the stadium so I’m going to some games vs the Galaxy and Chicago.
It appears that we have a deal. According to KHOU (local CBS affiliate and broadcast partner for the Dynamo), the deal for the stadium is done.
