Dynamo striker Brian Ching was selected to the U.S. National team camp in preparation for upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Costa Rica on June 3rd and against Honduras on June 6th at Soldier Field. Ironically the Dynamo play the Chicago Fire the day before on the 5th in Bridgeview.
Only seven MLS players were selected for this squad and in addition to Ching, U.S. fans see Frankie Hejduk (Crew), Sacha Kleijstan (Chivas USA), Pablo Mastroeni (Rapids), Marvell Wynne (Toronto FC), Landon Donovan (LA) and Jonathan Bornstein (Chivas USA).
Jose Francisco Torres will join squad after his MFL final with Pachuca.
Freddy Adu of Monaco and Benny Feilhaber (Aarhus) have been invited to camp by manager Bob Bradley.
The squad will begin to assemble in Miami tomorrow. Go to ussoccer.com for the complete roster.
So what do you think of this squad?
PACHUCA and PUMAS in MFL Final
It didn’t come as easy as expected for either of these teams but both survived scares from Indios and Puebla. Indios defeated Pachuca 3-2 yesterday at Pachuca. It was the first time in 18 matches at home that the “Tuzos” had lost.
The Mexican league playoffs are always unpredictable and a great watch.
U.S. National team member Jose Francisco Torres will line up for Pachuca in midfield while UNAM dips in to the past with striker Paco Palencia who was last seen at Robertson Stadium with Chivas USA….
Shhhh quiet…..Barcelona takes on Manchester United this Wednesday in the Champions League final from Rome.
Get your DEROSARIO TIX now! Yes the former Dynamo hero is headed back to play against the Dynamo this Saturday at Robertson with Toronto FC.

I am looking forward to De Ro’s return. I hope that he gets a very warm reception…He is a huge part of those 2 Championships that the Dynamo have won here in Houston and for that he deserves a heartfelt “thank you”. It would be shameful if Houston greeted DeRO the way San Jose has welcomed back their former players.
I for one am hoping for a comfortable victory by the Orange but would like to see some De Ro magic. 3-1 win for the Dynamo with De RO scoring would be fantastic in my book.
Even better would be to see him come out with a shaved head on bald is beautiful day, showing support for his old home town and what Waibel is going to raise money for Cancer patients. Maybe they should take up a collection during the game and if enough is raised Craig can shave Dwayne’s head post game??
Glenn ask him if he would do that when you interview him this week.
Just a little bit off topic. Ade Akinbiyi\’s former team Burnley F.C is in the Premier League right now after beating Sheffield United 1- 0 today. I wonder what Ade feels about it, and did he regret signing for us.
Dero’s return will be an exciting event. I think he will recieve a good reaction from the crowd. Nothing like the Dynamo’s first return to SJ. But that was under different circumstances too. I remember Ching being so upset about the reception there.
I’m surprised to see that Rico once again did not get a call-up. I have a feeling though that this due in large to the fact that the MLS season is under way while most euro leagues are out of season. BB may have an arangement with MLS clubs that he will not call more than one player at a time. Further I’m still waiting for Stu Holden to be called-up again. I doubt it would be during qualifiers though. At least not without Stu really breaking out for us.
Hello Glenn,
Its me everybody’s favorite Tuzos fan. I’m going to try to go to Tuzolandia (Pachuca) for the final! In fact I’m at a pick-a-part looking for a part so I can drive, gonna go visit family too. Well I knew indios would put up a fight but I never imagined it to get that ugly! I’m glad to see gringo torres get the call up, he deserves it! Sadly won’t be able to catch Dynamo against DeRo and Co. I was planning on going with a friend but the blue and white calls!
Arriba Los Tuzos de Pachuca!
Why on earth is Heath Pearce on this team? Beasley, Spector and Bornstein are more than enough options for Bob at LB. I can only handle one senior citizen at a time, Pablo Mastroeni almost 32 and Hejduk on his way to 34 are way too old and too card prone to be on the national team, give Marvell Wynne a shot for gods sake if not now, when? When we already qualified on our last 2 matches in Trinidad and Honduras and vs Costa Rice? And Maurice Edu should be able to play next to Michael Bradley no way he can’t play at Saprissa when he has played in classics against Celtic already!
Happy to see Charlie Davies, would have like to see Kenny Cooper in the mix as well instead of the man in the reserve squad of a German 2nd team that barely escaped relegation to 3rd divisin, god I hope Rodney Wallace of DC United gets his citizenship soon that way they can try him at LB!
Ching was one of the guys I called for to be bench immedeatly to make wave for guys like Jozy, Cooper, Davies and Demspey, but I liked the duo or Ching & Jozy, but I pray to god they don’t play Bob’s favorite 4-2-3-1 with Ching as the lonely striker and Donovan Demspey and whoever in midfield, although if they play Beasley at LB I kind of would like to Donovan on the left with Dempsey on the right both them switching throught the game and Adu or Torres in the middle directing traffic and getting balls up to Ching
Here’s my line up for the game vs Costa Rica Glenn, tell me what you think of it
GK: Howard
RB:Wynne CB: Onyewu CB:Bocanegra LB: Beasley/Spector
CM: Maurice Edu CM: Michael Bradley
RM: Clint Dempsey LM: Landon Donovan
FW: Brian Ching ST: Jozy Altidore or Charlie Davies
I think Jozy should be 100% but he did have toe surgery so just in case, I think Spector playing in the EPL can handle 32K Costa Ricans who aren’t anything compared to 40 or 60K England hooligan fans!
My bench would be as follows:
GK: Guzan
DF: Hejduk, Califf and Spector if Beasley starts
MF: Adu, Torres
FW: Davies
Absolutely do not put Pearce in, do not dare put Sacha in based on his play as of late and his horrible last 3 games witht he nats, sorry Pablo I would rather have offensive threats off the bench with 2 guys starting in Europe at the center midfield starting spots, one of whom is among the best players for the Scottish champion
Bornstein and DeMerit get training in camp to prove themselves for future fixtures, I would love to see Benny Feilhaber but his time will come in the same tournament he broke in at, the Gold Cup baby!
I doubt Bob give the sub chance to Adu over Pablo, he better not start Pablo over Edu, and I doubt Wynne gets a start maybe not even a bench appereance but this is what I think should have been played towards already, the subs I want would be Adu at the 60th minute for Dempsey or Bradley then slide him up top with Jozy at forward and take out ching in the 70th minute for Torres to take the midfield spot left by Adu, and if needed give Jozy a breather with davies for the last 10 minutes or take out Dempsey or Bradley whoever is left and drop Adu back!
Chivas losing Klejstan AND Bornstein doesn’t hurt my feelings in the least. This could be an opportunity for Chivas to drop points.
I say let some other MLS, and specifically MLS West sides feel the pressure the Dynamo have endured the last few seasons during USMNT (and Canadian NT) call ups.
Tuzos will win a close one. Bradley should put Spector at LB, but I’ll bet he’ll opt for his boy Bornstein.
Wren, Bornstein might hurt as he has played every game and has improved a lot, thus probably why gets the call and maybe why he could start over the EPL regualr Spector, why I have no idea, but maybe just maybe he can claim the LB spot that was his to lose and lose it he did with injury, poor running and horrible crossing at the USMNT level.
Housto use to lose what Ching & Clark and DeRo but who else, Clark wasn’t always a call up, Gold Cup must of hurt in 07, but that’s what good teams in MLS do, in the early days the Galaxy would lose up to 6 players in Campos, Fraser, Cobi Jones, Cienfuegos, Martin Machon and sometimes Danny Califf or Chris Armas or Clint Mathis when they came along, although Campos was gone by then!
But even more recent, Carlos Ruiz, Chris Albright, Tyrone Marshall, sometimes Hartman and others would leave, until Houston,DC & San Jose get their own SSS I don’t think we stand a chance at changing the schedule to not only fit FIFA but also compete with NFL & NBA as well as MLB all season competing with 2 leagues, right now we barely compete with Basketball but we do for the playoffs and then Baseball’s boring period till September when NFL gets good and Baseball goes into the playoffs!
Sacha can easily be replaced as he hasn’t done much at all this year, and Chivas USA will get deeper as players get better from injuries, but they’re fine, I think the reason he is struggling is because Sacha isn’t used to playing defense and Preki is really preaching a defensively sound tendency!
HI Glenn…
