With Didier Drogba and Salomon Kalou out for the African Cup of Nations, and a tight race at the top of the EPL, Chelsea did what any team would do ….pay £15m(about $29.4 million American) for Bolton’s star Nicolas Anelka. It was reported that Bolton rejected Chelseas’ first bid of £11m. Anelka, a 28 year old French National player, has played 18 games with Bolton this season, and has 10 goals and 3 assists to show for it. The move seems to have been an urgent one, as Andriy Shevchenko has also gone down with an ankle injury and wont be back for awhile. It should be a positive acquisition for the Blues who have had a roller coaster year so far with injury and coaching woes. Chelsea is currently in 3rd place in the EPL with 44 points, 6 points behind league leading Arsenal.
