CHELSEA SUPREME
Chelsea proved to me this weekend that their are the cream of the crop in the EPL and the favorites to grab the title. No earth shattering news but it was impressive how this team defends collectively and I don’t believe their is a team that is as good at getting behind the ball in transition in the world. Their 3-0 win over Arsenal was surgical and you never got the feeling that Arsenal would produce a goal.
This team has players with personality and character throughout the team….from John Terry to Frank Lampard to Didier Drogba you have players with mental strength. Comparatively who was the leader of Arsenal? Sorry Manchester United fans but Chelsea barring injury have to be the favorites to win the title………..Thoughts?
BARCA SUBSTITUTION FROM GUARDIOLA A KEY IN 1-0 win over REAL MADRID
Real Madrid came out playing the better soccer in the first half but failed to produce a goal during their best times. Even the Nou Camp fans of Barca seemed tension filled.
Pep Guardiola produced a masterstroke bringing on Zlatan Ibramhimovic at the beginning of the second half and he produced the game winning goal minutes later after great delivery from Dani Alves. Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo did play and was dangerous on occasion but is just back from injury……..Barca 1-0 over Real Madrid. Did you see it?
MONTERREY GET HUGE RESULT AT CLUB AMERICA
Say adios to Club America and Rayados fans you can rejoice. You have a team that can win the MFL title. With the aggregate tied at 1-1 Monterrey scored a huge goal in the second half as Club America midfielder Pavel Pardo lost Humberto Suazo who scored the vital goal in a 1-1 draw that would secure their passage to the next round.
Michael Orozco in goal for Monterrey was spectacular denying Salvador Cabanas on numerous occasions………Cruz Azul also advanced in Mexico in a 3-2 win over Puebla. No shortage of goals in this 2 game set as the final aggregate 7-6 in favor of the “maquina azul”.
So the semi-finals are set: TOLUCA VS. MONTERREY
MORELIA VS. CRUZ AZUL
So who do you think will win the MFL title!!!!
JUST A THOUGHT………How interesting would it be if Manchester City hired Jose Mourinho to manage and replace Mark Hughes? Same town as Alex Ferguson…….
What jumped out at you this past weekend. Please spread the word about our Cancer Camp in Bellaire !!!

Glenn,
hard to get through the week without the Dynamo being active. But, credit yourself with sparking interest in the MFL and the Euro leagues. It’s hard not to want to watch when you provide the context for some of the games you cover.
Thanks for your continued focus on community events with a soccer tie-in. Between your blog and your show (which is the only show I record, BTW) you are connecting our local community together like no other media rep.
Keep it going!
Still seething in pain over Cabanas finding new and exciting ways to screw up opportunities like that. He should really work on his finishing before Interliga. And yes, this is definately the evidence needed that he’s simply not capable of being a lone striker. He may only be 29 but there are a lot of miles on those legs for a 29 year old. He sometimes starts playing like he’s 32 or older. He looked liked he aged poorly out there Saturday night. Are we sure he’s only 29 years old?
Yes, Orozco was fantastic. So good that every time Cabanas took a shot, my head actually dropped further into disbelief (I had a small sum of money on Club America……needless to say, I’m not thrilled about the result). But, if Cabanas has a reputation of placing the ball so well, how come he couldn’t get one passed Orozco all night? My head would drop in amazement BEFORE Orozco made the save, expecting that he would. They could have played all night; Orozco would have stopped everything and Monterrey would have advanced.
Being starved for a professional game like Frank, I checked out the price for NCAA soccer in College Station tiks…. $75 and up for a single adult, general admission ticket.
Sorry Aggies, doesn’t look like I’ll be making the drive.
I was sort of upset you picked America to beat Monterrey. but I guess everone else had written off the Rayados too. the only problem I have now is that they’ll play on a Thursday night, that makes it tough for me to go, but I’ll try to make it to El Tec.
I think Cabanas and Landin must be on the same diet…
they both struggle with two things…
Staying away from the buffet…
and
Scoring goals!!!
Think Dom should spend a couple days down in DF with Oduro and watch how scoring goals in soccer is done Cruz Azul style? 3 to 4 goals per game is unheard of in these parts lately. You have got to love the Celestes ability to time runs wide and through and finish. Come to think of it maybe that’s why they sent Landin to Houston!
When it comes to the MFL…I’m really hoping for a Morelia v. Rayados final with any of those two teams winning it all. I just despise Cruz Azul and Toluca with a passion.
Chelski is playing top notch futbol and my props goes out to them. Arsenal has always a great team that is plagued by faults. How many times have we not seen Arsenal with championship caliber starts but then see them fall apart in the second half of the season? I love Arsenal but they are disappointing, and will for the next 5 years always be a top 6 mostly top 4 finishing team but non-champion.
Barca is being Barca again and that is good for futbol, but I kind of want Real Madrid to give Barca a run for their money; just because I am an ALMOST neutral observer.
Am I the only one that feels disappointed because of the lack of ANY type of news from the Dynamo HQ? I mean I hate the off-season, but hearing nothing about anything is frustrating. I want to be able to at least read something along the lines as “Brian Ching blames lacklaster finishing on cleats” or “Landin on strict diet”…I mean my Stadium hopes are fading so any type of news on the Dynamo would be cool.
Chaco Gimenez may be leaving my beloved Pachuca…apparently Cruz Azul offered Pachuca 6 million dollars; I hope he doesn’t leave. He has stated in the past how he loves the city, and will not move from there but the HQ is interested in selling an international player to make space for another one. I really do hope it turns out to be somebody else.
World Cup Draw this Friday at noon or is it 11? Eh…I’ll tune in at 11 and just wait it out because the anticipation is killing me!
Glenn- like the Philly Union pick up of keeper Chris
Seitz from RSL. With Nick Ramando having such a good run, Seitz never got any real minutes, think he will be starter with Union.
Glenn,
My Chelsea boys are not only the best team on the island, Europe, and perhaps even the world; with yet ANOTHER thrashing of Arsenal, one might say we are singlehandedly running Arsene Winger out of England.
Hey there Cowboy, hold on a second. Wren, no one hands out titles for best team through November (not even MLS if you think about it). That being said, Chelski has been impressive to say the least. Right now it’s hard to see anything less than a domestic double, and possibly much, much more.
But we’ll see how well you Blues can keep it going through the African Cup of Nations. I am a big believer in Ancelloti, but he doesn’t score the goals, now does he.
Aye Martek. After painfully watching my captain launch a decisive Champions League penalty into row zed (along with our hopes of European glory that year), I will NEVER count my chickens before they’re hatched.
And as you so adroitly mentioned, ESPECIALLY not in an ANC year.
I’m confused. I saw that Holden was on the Dynamo’s protected list but I haven’t seen anything that says they resigned him. Is he or is he not leaving the Dynamo?
Seeds are out for Friday’s draw in Capetown. The top seeds for each group (in no particular order):
1. South Africa
2. Brazil
3. Italy
4. Germany
5. Spain
6. England (a bit of a surprise but a pleasant one, they’ve really played well)
7. Netherlands (also a bit of a surprise but they’ve also played very well)
8. Argentina (whatever is said of Maradona, they’ve done well in previous world cups and maintain a high FIFA ranking- that’s probably why they’re here)
France gets relegated to the same pot as the other UEFA teams.
Actually, I shouldn’t have been at all surprised about England. They’ve played very well for quite some time. I just feared that somehow, they and Holland would get passed up for seedings in favor of France and Portugal.
Anyway, the 8 seeded teams seem fair to me. And I can’t make a good argument for any other team to knock off 1 of these 8 from the list. Can anyone else?
