Cameron to Stoke?/ Dynamo get Concacaf Champions League dates

Apparently Stoke have tendered an offer to the Houston Dynamo/MLS for the services of Geoff Cameron.

It is likely that Cameron is being looked at by Stoke as a midfield player based on their current center backs and needs.
One wonders how this will play out but I see this as a win win for the Dynamo if Cameron heads to Europe to see out his dreams and realize potential.

One must think the offer is somewhere in the neighborhood of 2 million dollars, that is my guess.

Cameron has made it clear that he wants European football and has been linked to Stoke, Everton and Schalke, what an amazing opportunity to become a part of an English Premier League squad that will be fighting again for survival. The environment, experience would only be good for his game.

This seems a no brainer to me based on what I know , player that wants to go, excellent money in this day and age for an MLS player and an opportunity for the Dynamo to re-invest in their club potentially at the striker position after getting a piece of the transfer.

The Dynamo have enough cover at the back with Andre Hainault, Jermaine Taylor, Bobby Boswell, Cory Ashe , Nathan Sturgis and the emerging Warren Creavalle to absorb the loss of Cameron.

If it happens the MLS/ Dynamo/Dominic Kinnear should take amazing pride in identifying Geoff Cameron, nurturing him and advancing him professionally.
It is a win win and the club can re-invest and look to supplement Oscar Boniek Garcia the recent designated player signing.

DYNAMO IN CONCACAF CHAMPIONS LEAGUE IS OPPORTUNITY
These games will be incredibly important for the Dynamo to continue to move their brand and team forward to different ethnic communities in Houston.
Here is the schedule that came out today:

Aug. 22 at Fas of El Salvador
Aug. 30 at Olimpia of Honduras
Sept. 20 home FAS

    Questions…
1 – Do you think he will do better at Stoke in the midfield than he did here? Maybe he didn’t play in the CAM here long enough, but its pretty undeniable that he didn’t impress there last season, and he has done well as a CB. I’d hate to see him move to Stoke in a position he won’t excel at.

2 – what would that do to his national team chances? We have a pretty strong central midfield right now and the back line seems to be in flux. If he changes roles yet again on his club team, does he damage his national team opportunities? Or does the Prem pressure move him into the pecking order for midfield?

As a Dynamo fan, I have mixed emotions about him leaving, but at the end of the day, its clearly the right thing for him to do for the right offer. Is this the right offer, or just the first?

How are we suppose to grow MLS if all the good players in the league leave for Europe, it seems to me we are just a stepping stone to leave and go overseas, first we lose clark, then holden, now cameron who’s going to be next, I don’t like the direction this is going, this turns me off as a fan.

  3. Glenn Davis says:

You could say that about every league outside of Europe in the world when it comes to players leaving for Europe.
It is a positive that an Epl team is coming after a Dynamo player, this is a part of the business. He has been here five years, many players don’t have a five year career at one club.
I do get your point though when you get emotionally connected to players.
Stoke want him apparently as a midfield player and that could be problematic for his national team career .
Lots go into this decision for all involved.

I can understand how you can get attached to players but nowadays no one stays with a team. When I was a kid I was a rabid Dodger fan and players finished there careers with teams, at least most of them. But it is not the case today. I had no idea that Cameron has been with the Orange for five years. That is a lot by any standard. If the team can get good money for him I say do it. It is good for everyone involved. Like you say Glenn with the money they can go after a forward and another mid player and defenseman. the possiblities are exciting and can only benefit the team in the long run. I truly wish Cameron the best and am looking forward to what the Orange will bring to the table. go dynamo.

Enough to cover at the back? After leaking 7 goals in the last two, I don’t know about that.

  6. Glenn Davis says:

Poor outings defensively but with what is going on in front of back four I would find it a little unfair to pin it all on them.

  7. coop says:

makes sense to me. Who said he would be a CAM in England? Also we leaked 7 goals WITH Cameron so… yeah. Further we expand MLS creditably by consistently producing players that can compete at the world level. Do it enough and WOW MLS itself is wold-class.

    Ignore the trolls, Glenn.

  8. Doug says:

I hate for MLS to keep losing our best young players, but as Glenn said, all the leagues except the EPL do this and even the lower clubs in the EPL can find their best players taken by Man City, United, Chelsea and others. It’s better to have talent that other clubs want than to be so bad that they’re not interested in our players.
I do worry about the 7 goals given up though. I think there will be a lot of pressure and expectations for OBG. Hope he lives up to it. This is looking like a very mediocre season. Of course, so did last year and look what happens. There’s always hope and In Dom We Trust.
