Soccer Matters with Glenn Davis on Fox Sports Houston brought to you by Memorial Hermann Sports Medicine Institute Friday at 3pm…Hear from Dominic Kinnear, Bobby Boswell and Danny Cruz…..Twitter: Soccermattersgd
So we might just have that reggae vibe in Houston. Reggae Boy Lovel Palmer who scored a long range goal in Florida for the Dynamo against FC Dallas is apparently coming in for another week on trial according to the Dynamo. Palmer who is the captain of Harbour View has represented Jamaica at the youth and senior international levels.
Find out more about Palmer as he is expected to get a game against both Austin Aztex this Sunday at 1pm and Chicago Fire Thursday at 7pm…….Just for an FYI here are my favorite reggae bands:
1.) Bob Marley
2.) Peter Tosh
3.) Third World
4.) Jimmy Cliff
5.) Toots and Maytals
6.) Mighty Sparrow
6.) Burning Spear
7.) Black Uhru
NAVAS to Dynamo
Francisco Navas will be an interesting signing and has slowly gotten in little ways more comfortable with his playing environment with the Dynamo.
He will be a marketable story for the Dynamo coming from the Dynamo Academy and local soccer but I am sure Dominic Kinnear would not extend a contract to him if he did not believe in his abilities. Lots of growth for this player has to come in his future and fans need to give him room to fail. The real question will come in the form of where will he get his ‘games’ in the future without a reserve league. His signing was held up by paperwork but fans should be real encouraged to see a young player get a shot on a professional environment. You can imagine how daunting it has been for Navas making the job to being a full time player who is expected to perform on a daily basis against experienced players.
PICK OF THE WEEKEND…

Glenn- Sorry you lost me on the reggae bands. Only “kinda” reggae sound I liked was the Police first two albums, Outlandos d’ Amour & Reggatta de Blanc.
I’m excited about Navas, I like the way he plays and I think he’s a good guy on top of that. His family seems really nice too and supportive, and really proud of him. Who wouldn’t be? I hope he sees some playing time this year. They’ve used him a lot in the preseason, and he’s done well I think.
William,
Loved the Police and caught them a few times and did love their infusion of reggae. The bands listed in most cases influenced them.
Web, youth is king!
It is a big moment for this young man. The question lies in how and where will he get games in the future.
He certainly seems coachable, talented and ambitious.
Bob Marley’s music still stands today as the gold standard for reggae. I am looking forward to watching Palmer play for the Dynamo.
Oh! I forgot to mention that I have a Reggae Boyz uniform that I bought in Jamaica in 1999.
Guess who’s coming to Houston? Natty dreadlock
Stoked. Makes me wish me had a Scotchy’s right here in Houston, mon.
Glenn-
Hahnemann plays for Wolverhampton and will take on United this weekend. Hopefully, Jozy will suit up for Hull against Howard and Donovan.
Any more news about who will play against Mexico on May 13?
@H-Towner,
Match is still on. Nelson de la Torre (one of the decision makers with the Mexican Federation) suggests that an announcement should come within the next few days or weeks. Tickets are on sale via ticketmaster but last I checked, read “Mexico vs. TBD”.
Lots of rumors and I’ve heard whispers about different teams (Argentina, Paraguay, Egypt have all been mentioned in various circles). Though, honestly, only an absolute few people know and those people really aren’t saying anything. Stay tuned.
I really wish they would announce who Mexico is playing at Reliant. I know many will by tickets just because Mexico is playing, but it would be nice to know before I make my decision and spend good money on a ticket. If they play Argentina, great, if it is Trinidad & Tobago, no thank you.
@Jon
Thanks for an update. I have my tickets already. Plan to leave work early that day to enjoy festivity.
Patience friends. I’m sure the FMF will let us know Mexico’s opponent soon and there will be plenty of time to purchase tickets for the match. And no matter who they play, it should be fun to watch.
MLS and Players Union will meet next week in Washington DC to continue CBA negotiations. A mediator will take part in the meetings.
