Arsenal over Celtic on aggregate 5-1

I know their are alot of true and tried Celtic fans in Houston but there champions league hopes have been crushed.
Actually they were crushed in the first leg in Scotland.
Which leads me to the Scottish Premier League and how dominant Celtic and Rangers are.
Celtic is an example of the best Scotland has to offer and it is light years away from the English Premier League.
In fact overall, MLS is a better league top to bottom then the SPL….and no, I do not think that is a stretch with all due respect.
What do you think?

Definitely agree with you Glenn. History, tradition, and good fan followings cause people to think that the SPL is superior to MLS. MLS is an all around better league. Perhaps Celtic and Rangers are ahead of our best teams (but definitely not by a lot, and not for long), but I think that has a lot to do with the MLS salary cap.

Scotland has a professional football league?

    Surely you kid!

  3. Leo says:

While Rangers and Celtic are better than the best of the MLS the lower teams are far weaker than our weaker teams…with the exclusion of FC Frisco :-) …by the way i listened to the Dynamo v. Arabe game…won’t give anything away for those of you waiting for 2morrow but it was eh…

Okay, 1st of all what’s with the using a mix of bench players, can we please start to take things seriously! Toluca isn’t kidding around, and don’t give this whole oh they have to play 2 games a week, that is what good teams do! In South America the Boca’s, River’s, Estudiantes, Flamengo and in Europe the AC Milans, Reals, Barcas, Chelsea, Man U of the world do it because they are good enough to play in international play, Columbus is getting beaten 3-0 and they have a full squad but with 39 minutes left they are down 3-0 and was 2-0 at halftime and now took out GBS since the game is out of reach and are playing with 10 men!

So what happened with the red cards if anyone listened or with the last minute goal?

I like you a lot Glenn (In a manly way), but our teams are light years away from Celtic ir Rangers, I love the MLS, but I´m not blind, the SPL is not even close to the levels of the EPL, but our league is not close to have their level, I have been to more than a couple games, lets just say many games, apples and oranges, apples and oranges.

  6. Edwin says:

Jarrambide, so you think that say, DC United or New England Revolution couldnt keep up with say the 6th or 7th team in the SPL? I have not been impressed with Rangers or Celtic as a power, they get the best but I think with the EPL competing Scottland’s talent pool is very thing and Rangers and Celtic just take it all, hell even Scottish teams are in the Championship trying to get to the EPL, Cardiff got aweful close last year and might go up this year!

Glenn- Have to agree, after \\

  8. William says:

Glenn_ Sorry about first comment, computer glich.
I do agree SPL from top to bottom not as strong a league as MLS.Huge drop off after Rangers and Celtic.
Teams like Motherwell, Aberdeen, Hibernian would be middle of the pack MLS teams.
The likes of Hearts, Hamilton, St. Johnstone,Falkirk
would’nt even be in MLS playoff race.

You don’t even use the correct grammar of the word ‘there’ in the first sentence.

  10. Offebacher says:

Glenn, there are a lot of Scots working in the same building that I am in and we talk about our Sport whenever we see each other. There are Celtic and Rangers Fans and both sides agree (stop the presses!) that the SPL as it stands is a farce, but both of their teams need it to get into Europe. After the first Matchday it is these two fighting it out for the title and everyone else trying to stave off relegation. Both sides also agree that if they were in the EPL they would be mid table teams as they would find it tough to compete economically with the big spenders. Oddly enough even though most of them would not even consider coming to an MLS Game they do find the League and the general parity across the majority of teams as refreshing.

    Douglas,
Thanks for the catch on the spelling and I have corrected.
Anything else to add of importance?
    Glenn

  12. Tentex says:

When one considers that SPL teams make it no farther in international competition than our MLS teams normally do, then one has to consider that the still young (in league terms) MLS has indeed im0proved to be on par with a historically competitive league. In following SPL for the last few years, it is indeed Celtic and Rangers scrimmaging with a group of opponents who show no real improvement from year to year. It could easily be argued that with the exception of the early series of title runs by DCU and the recent run by Dynamo, MLS is a more competitive league from top to bottom than SPL.

Funnily enough I had a conversation with an angry Scottish type person last night about this. He didnt seem to appreciate being told by an Englishman that Scotland and the SPL is utter shite. Further than that I informed him there is no talent coming out of Scotland and hasnt been for years now. Back in the day Jim Baxter,Dennis Law,Kenny Dalglish,Graeme Souness, Alfie Conn,Scott Gemmill etc etc all world class players. My angry friend tried telling me Barry Ferguson is world class ???? Sad but true.
