Sporting Kansas City has entered and agreement with USL PRO club Orlando City that might just begin to set the wheels in motion for more cooperative work between professional clubs on different tiers.
The landmark agreement according to a Sporting KC press release kicks off the connection between MLS and USL Pro with MLS players being integrated in USL Pro play in 2013.
Starting today with an agreement with the two leagues, MLS teams can now partner with USL Pro Clubs.
As an official affiliate, Orlando City will retain a minimum of four Sporting KC players for development through the USL pro season.
Last year the Dynamo’s Josue Soto went on loan to the San Antonio Scorpions and looking at the Dynamo roster you wonder why more players like Alex Dixon have not sought out these types of “playing time” opportunities.
There are no USL Pro teams in Texas for the Dynamo to partner with but they could go outside the region potentially if they liked.
In Texas the Dynamo could continue to work with the NASL and San Antonio Scorpions to loan out players potentially.
It is a start and can potentially lead to improving the player development structure in the United States.
