Dynamo (6-5-6 24 pts) v. Sporting KC (10-5-2 32pts), LiveStrong Sporting Park 7p cdt Fox Sports Houston
The Dynamo and Sporting KC will meet for the first of three times.
Sporting KC head coach Peter Vermes has implemented the 4-3-3 set up with a very direct, athletic and attack oriented squad led by a trio of athletic front men in former Dynamo Kei Kamara, CJ Sapong and Teal Bunbury.
Graham Zusi is the playmaker in midfield and it is ably supported by workers Honduran Roger Espinoza and either Julio Cesar or Paulo Nagamura.
Aurelian Collin leads the back four with European experience and a gritty edge that gets inot the heads of opponents while Chance Myers and Seth Sinovic will look to get forward from wide positions.
They are currently in 2nd in the eastern conference.
After three games without a loss Sporting got a 3-1 win at Montreal with two goals coming from the penalty spot.
The Dynamo look to build off of solid collective defending performances and will have their work cut out for them on the road. The 1-1 draw against Chicago was positive for the shutout but the team had few shots on goal despite dominant possession.
4-3-3
The Dynamo will likely line up in this set up to keep things tight in midfield like in the last two games. The question is what players will be selected with the Dynamo in their third game in eight days.
Sporting KC has the same dilemma.
KAMARA
He will want a good performance against his former club and if lining up wide the Dynamo must be careful of him getting into the box. The same for CJ Sapong.
CAMERON
Geoff Cameron is listed on the injury report with a hamstring problem and one wonders if the Stoke City target starts. One also wonders when this deal will get consumated if it all.
BONIEK GARCIA
The Dynamo will want another strong performance out of the Honduran who will go up against teammate Roger Espinoza. Both could be used as over-age players at the Olympics.
The Dynamo will want him to get the wide game going for the club .
ROAD CHANCES
Good collective defending, possession and creating road chances is the name of the game.
Sporting can be and has been beaten at home twice.
EASTERN CONFERENCE
Who can forget the emotional Eastern Conference Final when the Dynamo visited Livestrong Sporting Park winning 2-0.
Carlo Costly hit for the second goal that led to fans launching obscenities at him. Costly may be gone but the passion is not between these two teams.
SET PIECE MEN
Most talk of Brad Davis and David Beckham as the best at delivering off the set piece.
Add Sporting KC midfielder Graham Zusi to the list.
This element of the game will be important tomorrow night.
DYNAMO ROAD WOES
They may have won their first two road games but since then are 0-5-3.
A win at Sporting would be one of the most significant of the year.
