Chicharito bags a winner, Holden rewarded, Deric set to start in goal

Javier “Chicharito” Hernadez bagged the winner for Manchester United at Valencia in Champions League play yesterday. Now I know that many thought Hernandez would walk into the EPL and bag goals by the boatload. Those who thought like this were dreaming. To come from the Mexican Football league to Europe is quite the jump and few from Mexico have been successful at it.
Yes Hugo Sanchez is an untouchable when it comes to Mexican players in Europe.
Chicharito made a great step forward scoring the 85th minute game winner yesterday for Manchester United in Champions League play.
Your thoughts on the “Sweet Pea”.

STUART HOLDEN
If you have followed Stuart Holden in the EPL you have seen the continuation of a great story. From the youth field in Houston, to the Dynamo in MLS and now on to Bolton. Holden’s recent performances have garnered him a three year deal at Bolton. Incidentally, Holden going into this weekend lead’s the EPL in tackles for you stats lovers.

PHILLY VS RAPIDS
The field good after the 3-0 win over Chivas USA at PPL park disappeared in about 15 minutes in Colorado for the Union. The next opponent for the Dynamo did not have a good start and conceded two poor goals to Omar Cummings inside 15 minutes and the game was effectively over.
For the Union, the lone bright spot was Jack McInerney who scored their lone goal on a wonderful side-footed finished placed past Matt Pickens after picking up a second ball around the 18
Dynamo vs Philly this Saturday at 3pm East Coast time.

TYLER DERIC TO START IN GOAL
It sounds as though Dynamo 3rd string goalkeeper Tyler Deric will get the start at Philadelphia this Saturday due to injuries to Pat Onstad and Tally Hall. Deric has played only 45 minutes in game competition against the Laredo Heat which again illustrates the need for a reserve league.
Deric will get the chance to perform in front of the fervant Philadelphia fans!!

Manchester United at Valencia is a must see in Champions League……

Manchester United at Valencia is the must see game of the day Wednesday in the Champions League. United have not only struggled in the EPL but they have also had to endure the Wayne Rooney off-field saga. On top of that, Rooney is out for three weeks with an ankle injury and Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs will not be making the trip to Spain to take on the La Liga leaders. This is one worth watching on FSC at 1:30 cst.
So where are you going to watch this game or any Champions League game? At your computer? On your phone? At your home? Your favorite watering hole?

As for me I will catch this one in Philadelphia as I am calling the Philly/Colorado match tomorrow and then the Dynamo/ Union match at PPL Park on Saturday.
Pat Onstad according to houstondynamo.com is questionable for this weekend while back-up Tally Hall has been nursing an ankle turn. Onstad suffered a concussion in the Dynamo 3-1 win at DC.
Dynamo coach Dominic Kinnear ejected at DC will not be allowed on the bench and one assumes Steve Ralston will take over along with Wade Barrett. The Dynamo will face a Philly squad that is riding high but will play Wednesday at altitude in Colorado.

Kinnear speaks out on the future, Rongen makes it clear Navas Cobo is not ready yet….

Dynamo coach Dominic Kinnear began to lay out some of the plans for the Dynamo re-build that will occur next season. Kinnear was forthcoming about the search for a designated player, use of the college draft and more. Kinnear has put his wish list together of ten players that will be submitted to AEG. Who would be your choices for a DP?

United States National team coach Thomas Rongen also made it very clear on the show that Francisco Navas Cobo is not ready for prime time in MLS. Here the u 20 national team coach speak out on Navas Cobo: go to http://www.sports790.com, click podcasts, click Glenn Davis.

Chelsea vs. Marseille: Chelsea still seek a first Champions League title and are shorthanded without Didier Drogba.

Auxerre vs. Real Madrid: Ah, the “special one” in his pursuit of “my precious”.

Three second half goals propel Dynamo past DC …..

You will take it any way that you can.
Before an announced crowd of 13,828 (looked more like 10,500) the Dynamo scored three second half goals to win their 7th game of the MLS season.
Here are a few thoughts:

ANDY NAJAR: The DC 17 year old came as advertised. Strong on the ball, persistent and not you every day kid out of an Academy program. He staked DC to a 1-0 lead in the 29th minute that they would carry into halftime. The real story here is that 98 percent of the kids being signed out of the Academy and this includes Francisco Navas Cobo are not ready to jump into MLS. Najar is the rare exception. He seems grounded and the future is bright for the young man who is eligible to either choose Honduras or the U.S. at the international level.

PAT ONSTAD WARRIOR: I just saw the black eyed Onstad in the airport. After a collision with Andrew Hainault the images with Onstad were scary as his bell was rung. He has a slight concussion but one has to admire his desire to continue to play. DC fans were amazingly getting upset that it was taking so long for Onstad to be attended to. If Onstad had to come off the Dynamo would have played with ten and a field player in goal, presumably Geoff Cameron.

THE BENCH INCIDENT: Both Dominic Kinnear and Ben Olsen were ejected for leaving their technical areas during the game to shake hands.

THE DYNAMO GOALS: AN own goal that was deflected off a DC defender, a free kick that all the pace was in the delivery from Brad Davis that Geoff Cameron angled home, and then a stoppage time Dominic Oduro goal that gave you a final 3-1 scoreline.

PRETTY? It really doesn’t matter as the character and determination of the Dynamo in the second half outlasted a floundering and directionless DC.

BOSKOVIC? The Montenegran DP strangely played deep alot of this game? Enough with signing dp’s as holding midfield players? Who are making these decisions?

WONDO ON FIRE: Chris Wondoloski hit for a hat trick as SAN JOSE defeated Toronto on the road. Wondo, the former Dynamo now has 12 goals. Not many would have predicted that.

Your thoughts on the Dynamo win and all things soccer ?

Chelsea brought down to earth….Arsenal stunned in the EPL

In their first real test of competition Chelsea was dumped by Roberto Mancini and Manchester City 1-0.
Argentine Carlos Tevez provided the marker that was the difference and the “Blues” poor run of form against City continues.
We did talk on my radio show about the interest around seeing Chelsea finally play some real competition as they have been steam-rolling lesser foes in the EPL so far.
City manager Roberto Mancini’s stock will rise with this result. Despite this, it is clear that Chelsea still is the team to beat in the EPL
Meanwhile, Arsenal got shocked for the second consecutive weekend losing to West Bromwhich Albion 3-2.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger’s blood must be boiling.
Tomorrow it is Houston’s Stuart Holden and Bolton taking on Manchester United…………

Dynamo at DC United tonight….

What sort of response will the Dynamo deliver tonight after crashing out in the second half against KC?
That is the question. They head in to RFK Stadium tonight (6:15 Khou 11.2) on their 3rd game in seven days to take on a team that is similar in that they are wrapping up a poor season.
Brian Ching it seems will be a game time decision to play up front as the Dynamo re-visit the scene of their 2007 triumph.
It is a frustrating time for all and while fans want and expect change, that is only going to begin to come in the off-season.
One intriguing prospect to keep an eye on is 17 year old midfielder Andy Najar who is the real deal out of the DC Academy. While many of these Academy players are miles away from being ready to play in MLS, this young man is the real deal. He still is a potential to represent the United States.
As for the Dynamo, it will be interesting to see who coach Dominic Kinnear trots out tonight. MLS franchises with history like the Dynamo, NE and DC United are one that are currently looking to the future to turn things around.
On another note did you see the New York win over the LA Galaxy?

British announcer Ian Darke to headline Espn soccer coverage in future

Ian Darke who provided play by play commentary on the World Cup this past summer for Espn will be the lead man on the network here in the United States announced in a press release today. Darke has provided commentary on the EPL and will do both the U.S. Mens and Womens national teams plus high profile MLS matches.
What are your thoughts on an Englishman being the lead announcer in American soccer? Does it matter?
