The Dynamo had a spirited practice Friday at at Carl Lewis Track and Field Stadium and today’s practice is closed. Friday I saw a squad and coach that are looking to live up to the moment. Cory Ashe was fully involved and looks as though he will make the bench on Sunday. I love this time of the year in MLS and the second game of the home and home series because of the sense of finality but to liven up game one it would be great one day for MLS to adopt away goals to dangle the carrot to get teams more attack oriented in leg 1.
It truly is amazing how MLS is two seasons and most every team in MLS did have periods of struggle in MLS this year.
Looking at Robertson Stadium Friday it does not look good and could be a real key factor Sunday afternoon where there is the possibility of showers. The field looks rough and I assume will be hard as always come Sunday which will lead to a game with little time and space. It is fair to say that the only thing missing from this two game series has been surfaces in both Seattle and Houston that live up to the quality of the teams. Sorry, but this is fact.

COMMISH on the radio this Tuesday
MLS commissioner Don Garber will be on the Dynamo All Access with me next Tuesday as we go live at EL Pacifico Restaurant . The following week we are in the Woodlands for live radio at Tesar’s and I am hoping for great crowds at both of these events!!! Tesars.com and El Pacificosushi.com The food at both of these establishments is outstanding!!! I will recruit Dynamo players and fans that like good cuisine!!!!!!!!!! I hope to see you there and we are hoping to do a silent auction to benefit the Texas Childrens Hospital.
If you live in the Woodlands area or want to make the run north Tesar’s is awesome and I would love the company.
By the way , what questions would you like to ask commissioner Don Garber?

TOUGH IN TRENCHES..So many good match-ups abound in Sunday’s MLS playoff game but one area to focus on is central midfield where Stuart Holden and Ricardo Clark of the Dynamo will match up against Cuban Osvaldo Alonso and Brad Evans. Evans and Holden generally are the ones who join the attack late while Alonso and Clark do more of the balancing and holding but can on occasion bring an element of surprise…….The time period when the ball is won or lost is essential in this game to how quickly teams react.
The ball can get into penalty areas very quickly at Robertson Stadium and forces teams to play more direct soccer which can turn the game in a more combative and physical direction. Space is tough to find.

SIGN Suggestion: SOCCER MATTERS! WHERE IS OUR STADIUM?

Does anyone know at what stage the Dynamo Stadium (THE BATTLEGROUND) negotiations may be?? What a great nickname that would be. The problems with the field conditions would be a non issue if we had our own stadium. What a drag!

UofH will probably get their new facility before the Dynamo break ground on theirs. What a shame. We will lose this team to a market that is willing to build a facility for them. St Louis, Montreal, and Atlanta are chomping at the bit.

When are Lee and Garcia up for election?!? The runoff election for mayor is in December??? Vote for the Dude he wants a stadium.

    Go DYNAMO!!!!!

    Senor Glenn,
It don’t look like Robertson will be as full as Seattle’s stadium. The media continue to praise Seattle as the best place to watch soccer in USA. I understand the media love for Seattle.

    Check out this funny picture:

Nice post as usual Glen, but I could not disagree with you more on away goals. Here is why:

    1. The 0-0 draw last Thursday was widely considered the most exciting and best game of all the first legs. It showed that goals do not equal excitement and quality. Did you really think Chivas v. LAG was a better game?

    2. Away goals removes what little home-field advantage the host of the second leg has. I love the MLS playoffs format, but we need the regular season to count for more, not less.

Ask Garber about his opinion on improving league/club transparency on player contract, salary, and salary cap issues. Given that how a team handles the cap is a significant factor in a team’s success, would it not improve fan interest to let them know what their, and other, teams are doing?

Thank Garber for the job he does. Thank you for the job you do.

    Keep up the good work.
